A nicely presented clean dine in & takeaway restaurant on Otahuhu's main road. Secret Thai Garden has a great selection of very tasty looking dishes to choose from. I opted for Pad Thai which was very nice - just the right combination of the ingredients which were all very fresh & tasty. The serving was a decent size & I had enough leftover for lunch the next day - definitely priced fairly/affordably. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back to try more yummy Thai cuisine again soon!! read more

The best Tom Yum Goong soup I have ever tasted!! - The owner spent a year and a half planning, sourcing and building the Secret Thai Garden. He shipped a container of Thai artifacts to decorate the restaurant. Every piece of teak furniture has its own history and is completely hand made. There's a couple of TukTuks there too! We loved this place so much we visited on our return to Auckland after a week touring the rest of the North Island. read more

We happened upon the "Garden" and found ourselves in a comfortably foreign environment that transported us. Ohh, the curry dishes, complemented by the curry puffs and Thai beer. This place is absolutely magical. Literally, it's like you've transported from the backstreets of Otahuhu to a secret garden in Thailand. I don't want to ruin it for you with an overly verbose description but think along the line of water features, coloured fairy lights, intricately detailed thai statues, lush greenery and decorative tuk tuks and you'll get the picture. I headed here recently with my Dad and his partner - a thai enthusiast. All of us were rather famished so quickly ordered a round of entrees to share; the Satay Chicken ($12) and Angel Wings ($11) and Tom Yum Gai ($10). The food come out lickety split and was all pretty delicious but the Satay was most definitely my fav - perfectly cooked chicken with lashings of thick peanut sauce....delish! For ours mains we shared a good ol' Pad Thai, Penang Curry and Beef Larb. The Penang was relatively spicy and definitely tasty but nothing to write home about but the Pad Thai and the Larb I loved. The Pad Thai was relatively light and full of flavour (probably one of the best i've had..ever!) and the Larb was deliciously limey, with a touch of heat. This would be such a cool place to come with a big group. I am definitely going to keep it in mind for the next time I organize a gathering. Love, love, love! read more

You must go here at least once. This is a wonderful place to come to with a large group (or a small one for that matter). The other reviews here give an accurate description of the location and decor and this place is uniquely quaint and feels like a slice of Thailand, slap bang in the middle of Otahuhu! Who'd've thought? They also do a cracking trade in takeaways - the last time I was there I sat at a table where we could see the counter and I was amazed at how many people called in to collect their food. The staff are typically lovely, polite and gracious, as so many Thais are. If you like Thai food with added atmosphere come and check it out. read more

Amazing restaurant tucked behind the Otahuhu shops. It really is a secret garden that transports you to a Thai beach. On a bed of shells, tables are scattered over an open space. Roll down partitions and portable heaters help keep you warm but I would advise a warn jacket too. The food was amazing, we had a large group and got 5 different dishes to share. The ren dang curry and the cashew nut chicken were surprisingly my favourites. And BYO too, highly reccomended and would definitely return! read more

A hidden gem in Otahuhu, Secret Thai Garden offers a solid meal in a wonderful setting. While the offer the usual fare of Thai food, they bring their own twist on flavours at a pretty competitive price (which is just a bonus really). They've got a great selection of curries and soups but I'm always fond of their pad thai and stir fried cashew nuts with pork. Entrees are what you would expect from any Thai restaurant, very small portions, but are still great to eat, especially the prawn canapes- delicious! There's a set menu for larger groups which cover the main categories within the a la carte menu, and I would definitely recommend this. Secret Thai Garden is a beautiful sight from beginning to end, and do a great take on modern Thai cuisine! A must visit! read more

This place really surprised. The owners spent two years unpacking a container of authentic Thai decoratuve things and putting together an eclectic series of dining spaces. The meals were fragrant, delicious and good for sharing. Also BYO but for wine only. Enjoyable, I'll be back to this one. read more

Been here once and would definitely love to go back. The atmosphere is lovely and customer service from all staff was excellent. Who would have thought a place like this is located in South Auckland! The only down fall for me was the prices for a dish. They range from $20+ for a main dish. I have been to some thai restaurants who serve the same or similar dish for cheaper however, I do highly recommend you try this restaurant! As soon as u walk through the gate u feel like your in a totally different place and it's great for functions etc. read more

Loved the setting and loved the atmosphere. Food was well cooked and well presented. Amazing authentic thai food which is indeed a secret! You would not know it from the front. The food was quite spicy I must admit, but what do you expect. All in all, a great restaurant and I would definitely go back. :) read more

We were disappointed because the table we booked in advance for our sister's birthday celebration was given away to a bigger group that had just walked in. They offered us a table with green plastic outdoor chairs that was located in a another part of the restaurant which we declined. My sister flew in from Sydney for her birthday so this experience left a bad impression of the customer service we received for her and for our family members. read more

Love it - had hear about it from other people but just never got their. So glad we went. Took friends from out of town and will definitely be back. We all had an entree and main each - the star dish was the prawns which I didn't eat but everyone else was fighting over them. The we had a great assortment of mains which we shared and nothing disappointed. Such a magical place. Although I have never traveled to Thailand I really did feel I had been transported to another place. We couldn't criticise anything and for 5 people $175 a real bargain. Can see why it is booked out so quickly. We left it a bit late but they accommodated us by letting us in at 5.00 and out by 7 which was just fine. Fabulous. read more

Great Food, Beautiful setting and amazing staff. Had my hubby's 50th surprise birthday dinner there and we booked out one of the sections. Owners were great to deal with, very accommodating and professional. Our family all enjoyed the experience even though we all lived near it, 90% of our family didn't know it was there. The children also had an amazing time playing on the tuk tuk and they also catered for the kids. The setting was amazing, a Thai hideaway indeed. Everyone said they will go back again, the atmosphere was great and food was great. I would highly recommend this place. read more

We were ahead of time for a flight overseas. She felt like a Pad Thai; so did I. A quick Yelp suggested STG. They were extremely busy, we had no booking and yet they accomodated us without any issue. We knew what we wanted and, Wow, did they deliver a fantastically spicy dish. They were extremely fast and we will be taking our family there for sure!
