I'm always hearing a lot of bad things about Piedmont and I have been encouraged in the past not to go there. I just wanted to share that it was one of the better experiences that I've ever had in an emergency room. I was a little hesitant at first because I think I was expecting the worst. Within 10 minutes of checking in I was able to see the triage nurse and then maybe 20 minutes later I saw the doctor. He did what normal doctors do, but this time he actually gave me some good information. I will even go as far as saying, I felt he actually cared. So without making this so much longer post than needed, I just wanted to say that the staff there was excellent, the nurses were very caring and considerate and respectful. Overall, I had a really good experience. As a matter of fact, I think that I'd even say it was exceptional

He told me it was a long trip, there were a lot of activities and he was glad to be back but the trip was hard on him and he didn't feel his best. He didn't play well. Usually he walks on the golf course but this day, he decided to ride the entire 18 holes with me. The next day, he sent me a text saying that he had been diagnosed with COVID. It was very concerned because I've had COVID twice before and each time it took me a long time to fully recover. The morning I learned about this I was to play in a charity golf tournament that I had been planning for months. I was part of a team and they were all counting on me to play. I had also paid quite a sum of money to play and support the charity. I had no COVID tests that were valid. All the ones I had were expired. I could not find any clinics or facilities that were open and would test me. So, I went here to the emergency room. It was not a great experience. I was there for almost 2 hours. After the test, I waited almost an hour to hear the results. I was told I tested negative. I simply did not understand why I had to interact and talk with six different people to register, schedule the test, take the test and then get the results. I made sure when I checked in to confirm my insurance would cover the test. My part of the co-pay was $100.00 When I saw the final bill as part of the EOB or explanation of benefits, it was close to $2,500.00. I could not believe my eyes. This is what is wrong with our medical system.

Asking about my snoring with my doctor led me to do a home study and then eventually an official…read moresleep study here at Carolina Sleep Services. Located across the street in a business area from Atrium Pineville, the location has plenty of parking. The buildings are a bit clustered together so you do a little weaving to get to the location. Since the study occurs in the evening, parking is no issue. It is a bit weird showing up to a location when its dark, but it is, what it is. Since its evening, you ring the door bell and get buzzed in. The night staff checks you in and you are assigned a "sleep tech" that takes care of you. I only saw one other patient, but there are multiple rooms. Each room has their own restroom facilities, but basically set up with a bed, a recliner, a tv and then a couple of small tables. The bathroom had a shower in it but since my sleep study was just one night, I decided to forgo the shower and just go home. Once you get to your room, you've got free time until you "want to go to bed" so you call the sleep tech using a buzzer and he or she gets you ready but placing all the monitoring equipment (electrodes on your scalp, body, and legs). There's a series of commands the sleep tech talks you through (through the intercom) while he is monitoring the equipment so that he can adjust as needed and you are off to dreamland. An infrared camera is mounted on the ceiling to monitor you (which is weird) but make sense. Overall I made it through the study. It's really not something I would want to do again, but the facilities and the staff were good enough. Didn't really get a good nights rest, but got enough data so that my sleep doctor can make a recommendation.
