We were able to get a table for two without reservations, but it's probably safer to get a…read morereservation. Pretty awesome tasting menu. The plates are all creative and interesting. Many of the plates are custom made for Manu, and it really helped elevate the dishes. They brought out all the finger foods, one after the other. It was a little distracting to get a few plates, hear the explanation, and then get a few more plates while in the middle of taking a bite. They should bring a few plates of finger foods and wait until they're done before bringing the next round. Few dishes were mind-blowing, so I think they would benefit greatly by reducing the size of the tasting menu, and increasing the complexity of the dishes. They let us take the Tasting Menu home which is always a plus.

Great Food. Pricey. Some dishes definitely at Michelin star level. 3 menu choices made for the…read moretable. Unique ingredients and variety of cooking techniques. Separately few dishes were quite spectacular, such as tucupi soup, excellent skirt stake or dessert frozen yoghurt with tomato and grape. All together however it felt like the meal didn't have a flow. It was quite a ride, but it got bumpy now and there. Some dishes just didn't fit their place exactly. One big mistake was serving coffee (after meal that included amazing dessert) with whole lot of candy. As much as I love sweets and also the cute way they were served, each in its own drawer, it was just too much of sweet that killed sensations of the dinner very quickly. Also, some serving plates were not very well matched with their dishes. For example it was very hard to eat the long beef tongue slices from the 'volcano' plate. Steak tartar would be easier there. Very nice touch was to receive a little gift with pastries for the next mornings breakfast- super sweet! You can see chefs working on your dishes, but only their hands are visible- I don't know why, but I liked it. Made the wait more exciting. Few minuses that the owner might want to look into preparing for Michelin commission: Decor and music could be chosen with better taste- less is more. Girls toilet had ugly leak on the wall. Friendly stuff, but only one out of 3 waiters spoke english. Would be really hard without having at least one person speaking portuguese. It's a shame, as I suppose this place has many international guests. Extra pay for valet parking- we would have leave a tip, but the guy smelling very strongly of cologne made it clear that fee was not voluntary...

The place is small and it get very loud. The service is not bad. I was under the impression that…read morethis was a Italian restaurant but they serve like French but not near as good just the size of the portions. Ok it was not all bad the desert was ok. But is not a place that I will go back or recommend. There are a lot of nicer places in the city that charge a fare price.

While in Brazil on business this week, our group had a outstanding dinner at this unique…read morecombination of a wine store and top-rated restaurant. Terra Madre is widely regarded as one of the best restaurants in this city which is known for its distinctly European feel. Since the early part of the 20th century and especially after WWII, loads of emigrants from Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and even Japan came to this southern part of South America's largest country. About an hour and a half south of Sao Paulo, Curitiba is among the ten largest metropolitan areas in Brazil at about 1.7 million people and it is no slouch for sophisticated dining. On a Wednesday night, our group of 5 arrived early for dinner by Brazilian standards at about 7:45 pm. At that early hour, we were only the second table filled. By the time our dinner was finished around 10:00 pm, the restaurant was booming and the patrons were buzzing in their native Portugese. One of the most unique aspects of Terra Madre is the ability for diners to peruse the huge selection of wines covering the walls of a wine store directly attached to the restaurant. I think this concept would go over big in the States as it lets diners who know their wine inspect the labels of thousands of choices before choosing. Very unique and fun! We chose a fine Chilean Cabernet Sauvingnon from the Cachapoal Valley south of Santiago. Described to have "delicate fruit behind the oak" and at 195 Reals ($85 USD) a bottle, this stuff will bring out the wine snob in anyone! It was fabulous and paired nicely with both beef and seafood. Our group chose a wide variety of entrees including a few steaks, a tuna steak and even an order of fresh octopus. The food was fabulous but expensive even by U.S. standards. Overall, a great experience.
