The usual geese and ducks but on the right day you may see bald eagles, herons, cranes, pelicans ( yep pelicans), giant swans and more. The trail is crushed stone with partial shade in parts. For those with dogs note there are 2 grated bridges to cross. The NRD does a wonderful job keeping up the area.

He was great in teaching the kids how to handle the rod and the fish. Kids say they fished over a thousand fish and they were not far off. I would reccomend him for a great time on the water.

We went tubing down the Elkhorn River in August. We tied up with a group of 9 people & 3 cooler…read moretubes for 4-1/2 hours. Every tube has a lifejacket tied to it. You do not have to wear it if you're an adult. It was almost 100 degrees & all sun, but it did not feel miserably hot, probably due to splashing in the water & cool drinks! The water is muddy & at one point there was a river stench in the air, but it did not last long. Thankfully!! There's a few sand bars you can stop & talk with other people-that was fun. It was an easy float. The river isn't that wide. There's a few logs to dodge & your butt is in the water so you have to lift up so you don't get snagged! Sometimes we got close to the rivers sides & I felt a paddle would've helped us better maneuver our float. We're able to bring pretty much anything other than glass-that'll cost ya $100 fine per bottle!! We brought a waterproof speaker, plenty of cool drinks, snacks & lots of sunscreen!! Water shoes are helpful and if you want to bring your phone, Amazon sells waterproof phone cases four for $8! Don't bring anything you don't want to lose. The river took a hat, shirt and a hair clip. We left our towels and dry clothes in the car. We only went with our swimsuit, hats & sunglasses. It would've been nice if there was a place to rinse off after getting out of the river. We really enjoyed this float and plan to make this an annual event !!

I have rented a few times with Ben and he was great. Very, very accommodating and quick to respond…read moreback. We have used both his ski boats before and each one we had a blast! He can included skis, wakeboard, tubes etc... as long as they are not out with someone else! He was very kind with the hours used, depending on if rented for the next day of course. I would not hesitate to rent from him again. Next summer, I will have to get him earlier so we can have a ski boat and jetski!! Highly recommend Ben!

The Loess Hills are exactly what they sound like - some hills made of a lot of dirt and sediment…read more While that doesn't sound super exciting, it is quite a scenic drive around the Loess Hills if you're a fan of wide open spaces, fields, and liminal-space type visages. I think it's sort of beautiful to look out over the plains and open sky - you can see every single cloud and storm coming in. Now, I wouldn't say that the Loess Hills are something that you need to make a special trip to see/visit, but if you're passing by them, I would definitely recommend a stop to just take a gander!

As part of a round-the-US road trip, I read about the Loess Hills Scenic Byway as something worth…read moreseeing in Iowa. Having driven through Utah and Colorado, it was definitely underwhelming. The corn fields were all dried up when I went (in October) which made it even less picturesque. The drive itself was OK, but I found a short "out and back" hike in the Loess hills that ended up in the woods that wasn't too bad.
