I also requested several quotes for this work to repair my deck - Alan came in at a very reasonable rate. Much more so than some of the other quotes and the work he did was of high standard. See photo of the time he took to sand the edges of the handrails; he also took special care to choose high quality boards. Even when he ended up realizing that there would need to be additional work to be done that would come at an additional cost to me, he made sure to talk me through my options, he made recommendations, and never forced me into anything. Instead, he worked with me to find solutions that would result in a safe, quality deck and also at a cost that I could manage. Let me start by saying if you have a house that wasn't last updated in the 70s, I give them a 4…read more That was not the case for us, and although attempts were made to correct what has happened, it ultimately shouldn't have gotten this far and should have been done right and I do not think we have a siding that will hold up as long as it says it should for these reasons. Now we'll just have to wait and see. Aesthetically it looks great. Neighbors love the look and right now that is all we have to hold on too and maybe it will last a few years. If fixes need to happen it will be from someone else. The problem started with the sheathing in our house which is brittle and was covered by the original metal siding from the 70's. When that came down we didn't see what was underneath, because it was quickly covered with house wrap. It wasn't until we went to the attic where a bunch of fiberboard was blown out from nails that we could see the issue. In our contract it says if that needs to be replaced we will pay x amount more for that, but they chose to not replace and put our new fiber cement siding over it. I do understand that some people may skip that step but we should have been made aware and given the choice. When the install was said to be done the caulking used was the same on 2 1/2 sides and 1 1/2 was different. They did fix that. Windows were missed multiple times and I had to go around to each one and have them address them after 2 visits. One of the gable vents was leaking so they did have to come back and correct that also. James Hardie did come out at our request initiated by Cousins and says that install is correct for their product and Cousins was there also and they did recommend a few touch ups which I think were done today. Calvin was responsive with these issues, but I think each step especially on the older homes needs closer evaluation to prevent this in the future. Hope ours was someone else's advantage and it gets addressed.

He said he would get back to us with the estimate for our insurance company, however, we never received the quote. Called the company to request the quote and no one got back to us. I understand they do free quotes but my husband had to take part of a day off for the roofer to come to the house so now he has to take time off to have a different company do an estimate. I do not recommend this company, they just waste your time if your repairs are small.

Hire this company at your own risk. The owner will tell you he can have your project completed in 3 to 4 weeks. This is a lie. He will bragg about his 3D designs and his website that will give you access to a daily schedule so you can see the plan for your build site. This is also a lie, as the calendar is never accurate or updated. In my case he required 50% down. He started my very large deck build by excavating a 20 plus foot hole in my backyard. He left the dirt, cement in the yard. He then said due to the weather and not having a place to dump the dirt it would have to stay this way for awhile. He left us with this huge hole that had no drainage that was flooding my foundation everytime it rained and with mounds of dirt and cement in my yard. We fired this company and lost our sizable down payment. After hiring another company we had the dirt removed and drainage put in the hole so we no longer flood. So you decide what was the truth. James and his crew did a great job on the project I worked on. As an engineer I have seen lots of contractors work and his is second to none. SelectDecks have an acute attention to detail and got the job done in a timely and efficient manner. We were trying to fit a square peg in a round hole by building some challenging stairs and larger than usual deck spans to name a couple, and with James's skill of craftsmanship and code knowledge he realized what was a very difficult task under a lot of pressure. This ability to think on his feet and creative problem solving will mean that I will be recommending him to residential and commercial clients I know who will be seeking an absolute master of their craft. I had a large deck project and had 5 contractors bid the project. James and SelectDecks had, without a doubt, the most detailed and professional bid package. Even though they were on the more expensive end we felt most comfortable with them. Therefore, he was hired. He provided a detailed schedule and the only time we ran over on the schedule was when I had to change something. Which was finished in no time. We are extremely happy with his work and final product. If we have another project those guys will definetly be out first call. read more

We were scammed by Select Decks and James Baldwin in 2024 in having paid for a deck that was never constructed. The Court is of the opinion and does hereby CONCLUDE that the Plaintiffs have suffered $156,769.60 in damages as a result of the Defendants' conduct. We have yet to receive a penny.
