This is a great place to rent kayaks from. Went on a Saturday with a rather large group and the staff were helpful and nice. We were excited to hear that the path was 8 miles, which had a few waterfalls and rapids. There is a main building to pay for your rentals and additional items like waterproof phone pouches or eyeglass straps. There another building for the restrooms and showers for customers. After we paid, we waited for a designated bus to give us a ride to the kayak drop off spot at the Seminary Bridge. Every kayak was laid out for us already and we just had to choose one to bring to the water. Okatoma Creek was very relaxing and had a few small waterfalls that actually flipped some kayaks over. It was funny and scary at the same time for some members of my group. There were also a few sandbars that we "parked" our kayaks and relaxed at. At the end of our kayaking trip, we returned our kayaks right at the spot where we parked our cars! Overall, this is a great place to bring your family and friends to enjoy Okatoma Creek! Prices are good for how long the trip is and fun with all of the waterfalls and rapids. read more

So this is going to be a long post sorry not sorry!! But Lemme start off with I'm not one for coming to social media to bash a business, but this is apparently the only way I'll be able to get answers. I've been told they would call several times and nothing soooo I know stuff happens beyond our control, but what was supposed to have been a fun time with some friends for just a night away turned sour quick. This could have been handled so much better in my opinion. so for Saturday (October 21st) we had a cabin booked at Seminary cabin and canoe rentals (cypress cabin). Never been before but FACEBOOK REVIEWS looked like it was decent. I didn't think about looking at yelp or Google which I should have I booked back in August (18th maybe don't remember exact date), paid deposit which is fine I understand most places you have to. Well I asked was there a certain time to check in the lady I spoke with was like no so I got there about 4:10 drove around bc signs are not that clear and I found the office, which might I add was giving creepy vibes I was expecting some hills have eyes mess to walk out the woods and strangle me tbh, walked up to the door of the office it was locked and no sign/note of anything of what to do so I messaged the Facebook page AND called the number the only number I know on there page, no answer. So I went driving around and found the cabin after taking some path, when I pulled up this overwhelming feeling came over me. Now I have anxiety so there's a lot that creeps me out so I just brushed off as being nervous being by myself but y'all there was NO BODY ELSE THERE in the area like no other campers, nothing that I could see, I left the car running (locked of course) and went inside i had my boyfriend on the phone, the stairs were wobbly and looked crooked, door was just about open I like pushed with A finger lightly and it opened. I felt like I was being watched. I looked in the bedrooms and the plastic covers were off like no one cleaned them before we got there, the stove was taped with duct tape I could barely get it to open now who would wanna cook on that. I turned the light on in the hall and it automatically blew I didn't even make it upstairs to see that area. I opened the fridge and freezer just for a split second and closed it just to see what was inside and y'all the smell of pneumonia and rubbing alcohol hit me like a freight train, I told my boyfriend who was on the phone I have to go that was the final straw i was by myself trying to drive dizzy (I know not smart but I did not feel safe). i drove around one way I thought was to get out, it did lead back out to the main road and the gate thing was locked. Im sure I could have went around but I just turned around and went out the way I came in. Might I add at the end of the road there was a hunting house in the middle of the fork in between the 2 cabins. I called the number again to tell them I was not staying, no answer of course. So I send them a message telling them I would not be staying. Almost an hour later from my last message they reply saying give me a call,, of course I did and guess what NO ANSWER!! this is unacceptable they will not respond to messages or calls so I can have answers but from what I can see I'm not the only who had this problem. I feel like I deserve a refund maybe just me but what was supposed to have been a good night for some mamas/friends was very let down. Also Seems like when I was asking info about cabin to book they were very attentive. I just want answers and to tell yall DO NOT BOOK WITH THESE PEOPLE!! This place is not recommended to beginners nor professionals of kayaking the water was too high and too strong for them to be open, they dont care abt anyones safety and one of the canoes was filling up wit water and was sinking and when we tried to call them they wouldn't answer and then someone flipped over and was in serious danger and they still didnt answer/ we had to call 911 and they were discussing they had multiple calls just from the same spot where the person flipped and almost drowned pls for your safety be careful if you do go and when we were pulling up in the fire truck the workers laughed because they knew we were in trouble . read more

I will never give these people my business again. Never. They care less about the safety of human life and put greed and their rivalry with Okatoma Canoe Rental above human safety. I witnessed them turn away someone who had missed his pick up point on the river and instead of assisting this kid, with maybe 30 minutes of daylight, they told him to try the next "Okatoma Canoe Rental" pickup which was 5 additional miles down the river. He didn't even want them to give him a ride, just simply use their phone, because he didn't have one. They sent this obviously intoxicated kid down the river because he picked their rival. This behavior should be criminal in my opinion. In addition to that, they shook down another group of campers and made them pay to use a vacant sandbar with threats of calling the game warden. The group was being responsible and Seminary Canoe Rental waited until right before dark and well after the campers had completely set up their camp and were beginning to make their dinner, to inform them it was private property and they needed to pack back up and move. Again, I will never give these people my business again, and I hope nobody is unfortunate enough to get hurt over their greed and dumb rivalry. read more

Had a reservation for 5 canoes and 2 kayaks, and after waiting 3 hours to get to the drop off point; we were told that there were no canoes. They then proceeded to give us two seater Ocean Kayaks designed for open water to go on a river that has rapids in some places and a bent paddle that snapped in half as soon as we started. After a mile down the river we realized that two of them were leaking water due to drain plugs being missing. This caused a very unsafe situation and caused the riders of the two kayaks to make it to the pick up point way after dark. The staff was rude and combative and acknowledged that they knew there were issues with the kayaks to begin with. We were very lucky that no one was seriously hurt and that we didn't lose more gear than we did. I wouldn't recommend these guys to my worst enemy, not even for a few gallons of gasoline. This review is for the canoe rental. Canoes and paddles are in good condition. Once you are there, there's a bus that take you upstream to the starting point. You then paddle down to the place. Shower rooms and bathrooms are clean. They also have kayaks and cabins for rent. Okatoma river is beautiful. read more

Had an extremely good time!! The place has very basic amenities but also has camper spots that can be rented at a reasonable price. The kayak rental price is very reasonable and planning a another trip very soon. Thanks Seminary Canoe rental staff!! read more

Our experience with SCR could not have been better. We had never been on the Okatoma before and have been back twice already this year. They dropped us off at Seminary Bridge and we took our time floating back to the lodge. The waterfalls are easy to maneuver and the rapids aren't bad at all. But we really enjoyed hiking up a magical little side creek the most. Once we dropped our kayaks on the sandbar at the resort, we headed to the showers and changed before heading home. Next time we are going to bring the RV and stay the weekend or either rent their cabin with a swim hole and a rope swing. This place was awesome !! read more

Great river, fun little falls along the way. Half day (4 mi?) trip was perfect for kids, relaxing and took about 4 hours. Went in a group yesterday, some canoes, some kayaks. Very laid back, not 5* because we didn't get any kind of brief before we got on the water, but I suppose we would have if we'd asked. read more

I have been canoeing for years and this was the worst experience in all of my 30 years. We decided to use Seminary Canoe rental for a 16-mile overnight camping trip. First, Seminary had no business sending anyone down from that far up river, we were forced to port our boats and gear three times (once over 30 yards) because of obstructions they knew the river was prone too. None of the felled trees were fresh and we found out later that only the 8-mile stretch is maintained. Next, when we reached the halfway point we called the outfitters and told them we wanted to be picked up due to the time and energy we had to expend on the first half. They wanted to charge us for the effort of picking us up. When they arrived the owner (Sonny it seems from previous postings) seemed to be sympathetic since apparently another group had our same experience right before us and even hinted at a refund. But as quickly as he said that he snapped and did a 180 and began demanding more money than what we paid because some new girl charged us for the 8 mile trek. A few of our party drove with him to the cars and almost stopped the van and forced one out when he said he wasn't going to pay. They gave in and paid and the owner offered us their showers (Not a chance but it's not like he was offering anything we weren't already due). Finally on a previous overnight trip while using Okatoma Canoe rental we saw multiple inexperienced Seminary renters going downstream. One just before dusk saying he could not swim asking how much further and later two more stumbling out of the dark. I can't blame Seminary Canoe for their poor choices but they also don't seem to be too concerned about their customers well being either. We even returned 4 of their abandoned kayaks with barely a thanks. I bet they still charged those people pick up fees. All in all, I will never return to Seminary Canoe Rental and I hope after reading this you choose not too either. This probably would have all been avoided had they cared enough about us to tell us not to go on the 16mile trek but management only made it worse by failing to admit it erred and instead of assuaging an unhappy group decided to incite them. Okatoma Canoe down the road is a much better bet. I have made multiple trips on this river through Okatoma Canoe Rentals and have always had a great time. P.S. - If you must go watch out for Sonny and don't expect help without a price. read more

I was on a road trip, heading to New Orleans. It was at the end of the season(October)-beautiful day. I had heard of the Okatoma creek and it looked like a great creek to kayak.. I called another livery and they wouldn't even bother!(offseason, no appointment, blah blah ) I called Seminary and they said come on down! Stacy threw a kayak in his truck, gave me a great synopsis of the creek, and put me on the water. It was a great day and a highlight of my trip. Stacy & his wife were very gracious & hospitable.
