I arrived right when they opened on a Sunday in hopes that no one booked an appointment first thing in the morning. When I arrived, I asked the young man working there if they accepted walk-ins - yes; is anyone available now? - no; Ok, is there any availability later today? - maybe; Do you know around what time maybe? - 3pm, but I'm not sure; Alright, should I just come back after 3 or can I book something now? - I don't know, they'll probably be all booked by then. At this point I just walked away, they obviously didn't want my business. I understand I'm a walk-in so can't get preferential treatment over their customers with an appointment, and I get that I have no idea of how busy they are. But he already told me there might be an opening after a certain time and didn't bother to check who was free, thus not allowing my any services. This is at 9am, he literally just opened the doors to the shop, and no other customers were there. If you're fully booked, just say you're fully booked. I can understand that. Again, I can't attest to how they do hair as I wasn't even given the opportunity to even get my foot through the door. One star for the bad service by the front desk. I know this doesn't change much for their regular customers, but hopefully new customers can bring their business some where they are wanted.

So laid back, he was sitting across the street in a doorway having a fag while I was getting my hair washed. I was a little bemused and terrified through the whole experience. I was never entirely sure that he hadn't spent his career to this date in a poodle parlour. He ruffled my hair a lot, excessively so, it was quite funny actually. He spent an awful long time gazing at me, sniping away and staring at me. No-one this good looking has ever looked at me this intensely. He cut and cut and cut, then got out a razor. No one has ever used a razor on my hair in my entire life! This haircut is precise! F#@k it's short! I'm not sure how he ever thinks I will style it. Seriously he might be the worst hairdresser in the world or the best, am too dazzled to decide. Headmasters lose a star because he ghd'd my hair instead of blow drying it straight, which is the laziest thing to do. A good hairdresses can dry it poker straight. Moriyama saved me from becoming a total laughingstock. This place offers everything you can hope for at a hair salon: stylists who are courteous, attentive to your requests, and, most importantly, highly skilled. Heck, they're pretty stylish themselves--always a good sign! Sachiko double and triple checked with me before she started snipping away and throughout her work to see if she's on the right track. Something you don't want your stylist to be doing is working in a hurry, and Sachiko took a lot of care with the whole process. (I'm pretty sure she spent longer blow drying my hair than that guy from Hair by Fairy took with my entire cut.) Long story short, I came away with a bob as chic and cute as would have been possible given the mess I brought in. Stylistically my hair is very Japanese, which you might expect from a Japanese hair salon. That's the way I like it, but I feel confident that given the attentiveness and skill of Sachiko and other stylists I watched working, J. Moriyama can be versatile. With tip, my haircut came to £42, which is the most I've ever spent on the service. But I'm going to guess that this is moderate-high for London. (I'm from the States, where 42 US *dollars* would be verging on pricey.) All in all, it was worth the money--now I don't have to a hermit until my hair grows out!

I booked the appointment last minute, so you make do with what you have. So it doesn't get my five stars, but still four stars because they managed to make something so bad, turn out so good. That is the whole purpose of a hair salon. You are supposed to look much more beautiful walking out than when walking in, though many times recently I find it is the reverse, partially because I have very difficult hair, and partially because I had the misfortune of stylist masquerading behind high prices but no real skill. I was a bit nervous getting a guy who was a bit on the shy side and didn't speak much English. But don't judge a book by its cover. We still communicated well enough, and most importantly, he told me what each person has done wrong to my hair, how they managed to screw it up, how he will fix it, and what I need to continue doing. He was right on.. I may be of Asian descent, but I do not have your typical dead straight Asian girl hair. Instead, I have Chia pet hair, curly/frizzy that it needs to be straightened and layered off or I will have an Asian super Afro. But Masa, my stylist, gave me a Japanese type of hair cut with great care, analysis, and symmetrical accuracy (after all, this is a Japanese hair salon); which was great. I have received some compliments already on the new hair do in just less than 24 hours! Lastly, I didn't pay some high price of 200 pounds, but around 45 (excluding tip), which is a good price considering the attentiveness, precision, and style that you will get here. Be forewarned - if you don't like Japanese style haircuts, you should reconsider. Who doesn't though? I always found the Japanese hair styling magazines to have the best styling of haircuts and hair color out there. Like Beastie Boys will say, these people here sure have "the skills to pay the bills". Look no further. I will fly back here from Zurich just to get a haircut and ditch the stylist I go to in NYC. Two fingers snap up and down! Now come here to look even more beautiful than you are, especially if you have Asian hair (it's more difficult to cut based on texture).
