Each plate provided a tasting for four. Not huge portions, but definitely tasting sizes. That said, this is a very popular place with limited seatings. No reservation, no tapas. Want to sit and chat for hours? Not here. They have a two hour limit because so many want to eat here. But their service is so well orchestrated your tapas comes in waves and you're never without food for very long. You get what you pay for. Sometimes. This is a very cute little bistro. It definitely seems like it would normally be a great place to have a date night, but tonight it was packed with large groups. The restaurant interior is very small and there is no outdoor seating. The ceiling is on the lower side, so if you have space issues, this is definitely not the place for you. There were a variety of tapas options and the dishes were definitely on the sizable side for tapas. We tried the bread with tomato, patates bravas, a roasted carrot with hummus dish, chicken masala and the salmon. The tomato bread was delicious and so were the patates bravas. The salmon was perfectly cooked, but the chicken needed a bit more spice. Service was a bit spotty, but it was packed tonight, so I wasn't surprised. Another amazing tapas place in Barca, another amazing review. Like all the other restaurants in Barca, the vibe is impeccable. I love walking through those cobblestone streets, just getting lost in the myriad of scents and colors. The inside of the restaurant has this rouge decor with decorated art pieces and drawings. The servers are super friendly and chill - no rush here. However, it is super busy! Packed and a line outside - get a reservation! The food was incredible (no surprise). All the tapas were great... from the croquettes to the paella. We ended up sitting around for a while but the small restaurant had another reservation coming in and we had to move to the bar. The online reservation process was easy to navigate and I received a text message soon after requesting, stating: "We have a table available at 5.45PM. We only need your commitment, please assure 100% that you're coming. Normally, we ask for credit card print to secure the booking. Do you guarantee 100% that you will come? Your table is available for 1h40min" Believing they had a lot of no-shows and understanding how this can negatively impact their service and business, we were there at 5:45pm SHARP, only to find a closed business with 3 employees inside. They immediately directed us to wait as if we were inconveniencing them by being on time. They finally let is in after I advised that I had a reservation. There was a woman with dyed red hair that just gave us the dirtiest look. She looked stressed out about something which we will never know. The place was empty, mind you. Multiple patrons walked in and/or called and she kept making a big deal about them not having a reservation. A younger female server with brown hair sat us and explained the menu and various tapas. She appeared to be new but was very sweet and accommodating. Everything up until now could've easily been forgotten if the star of the night, the tapas (which were presented beautifully), were not so disappointing. The seared tuna was tough and chewy and were basted in what looked like day-old gray guacamole creme, the oxtail croquettes were gooey and pate-like and the pork cheeks were overly sweetened with some sugary sauce. The two glasses of sangria helped a little, but not enough to leave with a good impression of the place. A great experience We stopped in for dinner last night, stepping into a smallish and very busy place. Right away we thought we were not going to get in. A gregarious fellow saw us walk in and came right over, and even though we didn't have a reservation had a spot for the two of us. We had been in Spain for a week, but this was going to be our first true tapas meal. Our new friend, who was also an owner, provided his recommendations. Nestled ever so discretely among the dark avenues of the Gothic quarter of Barcelona resides Sensi Bistro. Although a mere 2 blocks away from Sensi restaurant, the Bistro is this small, quaint tapas restaurant lead by a man named Sebastian. I ate here during one vacation, twice; twice because the food and service are extraordinary. The first night, a group of five decided to give it a shot, however only three made it to the bistro. The other two were waiting for us at Sensi restaurant. Hearing us describe in French that they need to come to us, Sebastian offered to go get them. He's a nice guy, and one reason you should support this business. Once we were all in, he walked us through the tapas options and helped with wine pairing. We decided to go with a tasting menu and worked our way through many tapas. The pork and the mussels with cream (Sebastian's Grandmother's recipe) are amazing. Pair this with a charcuterie starter, tomato bread and a nice wine...it's a great way to spend an evening with friends. I enjoyed the ambiance, the food, the service...just everything -so much I had to go back a second night a week later. This time, I brought a different group. Everything exceeded my expectations once again. If you are going to Barcelona, you have got to experience Sensi Bistro. Great atmosphere and service! Food was excellent and exactly what we were wanting for tapas!

We went as a group of 16 for tapas and drinks. The manager (very short guy with floppy hair) said he would take care of things and design a special menu for us to take account of vegetarians, non-fish eaters and gf guests rather than us choosing a la carte which can be more difficult for their kitchen and leave people waiting for food. We were happy to go with his recommendation and asked for a budget. He told us €25-30 euros per person for food plus drinks on top. We were happy to do that and went ahead. The food was incredible and service was excellent. However, we were given far too much food - especially as we had vegetarians and a number that do not eat fish which the manager had noted. A lot of food came out and many plates had gone uneaten. There were at least 7 plates per person which was far too much. Especially if people do not eat fish/meat! The bill was well over $900 euros. Of that the food came to €45 each (inc. service) which was significantly more than the budget we were given and agreed. To be clear the food was very good and I cannot fault the chef or wait staff in any way but it is not fair to quote a price and then unilaterally increase it without checking and knowing full well that plates are not being eaten. It was an incredibly shortsighted thing to do by the manager. Worst still after paying the bill without even mentioning the fact we had been quoted far less, the manager said it was €9 short. I felt terribly embarrassed for the owners that the manager would even raise an issue such as this on a bill of almost €1.000. Shameful. It was great food and service but sadly we will not be returning. What a shame to leave a sour taste. I hope the manager learns from this. My advice would be to pick your own (insist even if in large group) so you know how much it will cost! read more

This place was so good! We had a reservation at a different tapas place for the night, but ended up making a last minute switch, and we are so happy we did. The restaurant is so cool on the inside and all the staff were lovely and kind-- they explained dishes to us and made recommendations when we asked. All the food was amazing as well-- their tapas were unique, while maintaining the flavors and vibe that make Spanish tapas what they are. If you want some picture-worthy and really delicious upscale food and drinks (at a fair price), then this is your place! I would recommend this to everyone who goes to Barcelona and I would return myself if I'm ever back. read more

The waiter asked if we wanted to try a taster menu and sample a bit of everything. We had 6 ppl and decided that it would be a great way to try new items since we had been in Barcelona for a week already and felt we wanted to try some new options. We didn't ask about the cost but decided why not. We were pleasantly surprised by what he presented to us. This was our first meal since arriving in Barcelona for the first time and it definitely set the bars for the rest of the restaurants we encounter this trip. Service was impeccable, and they spoke English with English menus for us non-natives. We started with a glass of sangria (pretty tasty with the fruit bits) and their tropical lemonade, which was super delicious. The dishes were served on cute decorate tiles to pay homage to the Guadi, too. - Corn "bombas" filled with squid & aioli: delicious small bite! Though I wanted more, I knew we had a lot more tapas on the way. I would totally reorder. - Tuna tartar, sriracha vinaigrette, puffed rice, & Japanese onion: super flavorful dish that reminded me a lot of poke dishes. Good seasoning with the fish and the extra textured bits like the puff rice made it an interesting dish in my mouth. - Famous seafood paella: We ordered this because of the famousness the name claimed it to be. The shrimp was large and flavorful, and this is probably the only seafood paella I had in Barcelona that wasn't bland or just overhyped. Small portion because it was tapas, but good enough since it was full of rice and we had more dishes coming along the way. - Fresh truffle ravioli in parmesan cream with scented truffle oil: This was my absolute favorite! I would order more if I wasn't getting full at this point, but the sauce was amazing. I slurped it all up after the ravioli was finished. I would recommend anyone to order this dish; it was pure perfection! - Tomatoes with ground lamb inside: This was a special so it wasn't on their menu. Since I'm not a lamb fan, I didn't eat it, but my boyfriend liked it. He said the tomatoes were refreshing paired with the meat. - Calamari/squid with gambitas, chorizo, and aioli: tasty dish with fair cuts of fresh squid/calamari drenched in sauce. Overall, I would recommend this place to any visitor and would definitely come back for that truffle ravioli :P Service is amazing, and I recommend making reservations, as they book up quick and turn walk-ins away. read more

"Tapas Bars" are everywhere... in that sense this isn't just a tapas bar, it's a culinary delight. We came on our final night in Barcelona and were looking for good food in a relaxed atmosphere that was going to satisfy our foody tastes but appease our youngest teenager's picky palette. Wow, did the wonderful people at Sensi over deliver! The food was phenomenal. The tuna tartare was so good, our son needed another order. The sea bream melted in our mouths. The veggie ceviche had an almost addictive flavor. And the cocktails! *chefs kiss* Outdoing the food, however, was the service. Everyone was so friendly and informative. We aren't the best at Spanish, but it wasn't a problem. The staff were fluent English speakers and they helped guide the evening well. I also appreciated the pace of the service. We ordered everything at once and the staff paced the meal perfectly. We did make a reservation, thankfully. Had the pleasure of visiting this hidden gem! It was recommended by my Airbnb host who is an absolute foodie (if you want to use that term, but certainly it fits him well)... Let me tell you, there are many classy restaurants in Barcelona , some that are highly rated with Michelin stars and others that even if they don't receive the recognition are as good as the top ones. This place is no exception, from the mixologist friendliness to the vibe , it just felt right. I didn't feel foreign, I felt like I belong , like I've been coming here for many years and it was one of those nights where I wanted to have dinner at a friendly place with friends , that's how it felt. But being nice is not the only thing they sell because the food was divine , from the truffle ravioli to the tuna tartar to the arroz caldoso it was just so good . It was a little easier than most restaurants as there were a couple American servers that were students so there was no language barrier. It's been hard finding restaurants during our trip because my wife is a pickier eater than I am as I will try anything once... So this was perfect because it had extremely delicious dishes that we both loved. Definitely one of the best, if not THE best, meal I've ever had. Sensi means a teacher, and the name fits right. This place is surely a teacher telling one how to enjoy excellent food. Beautifully historic from outside and located in the Gothic area but very contemporary from the inside makes this the perfect dinner place. As for the food, it was one dynamite of flavor after the next. Hands down our best tapas experience in Barcelona. The staff was very friendly and efficient. They speak English which helps for the tourists but other than that they are 100% authentic Spanish. The few highlights of food were the vegetable curry, a Thai twist to a Spanish tapa. The mini burger was just phenomenal. Do make resection sad it gets filled up fast. Though we didn't and luckily our wait time was only 10 mins but if you are on a time budget reservations will be a good call. Lastly don't skip the Caramel cheesecake. When we were finally seated, the host was very nice and personable. He kindly seated us as soon as he was able, and we were promptly greeted by our servers.
