I have been to many Sephoras and I love makeup. I am a college student and I use the Sephora app for points or rewards many times. The first time I tried this Sephora, I was with my friend. Not only is this Sephora very small and crowded, the workers are very rude. I am Hispanic with very curly hair and I am black passing. I wear makeup everyday and I wore makeup this day, as it was a light makeup look but still noticeable. I was carrying products I want to buy and looked around at the products that I might be interested in. As I was doing this, my friend was getting shade matched for a foundation and she was doing this with a very kind worker for a while. While I'm looking around I notice that a worker that is a POC is glaring at me the whole time and following me. She also ends up shoving into me a few times. She does this without ever saying a word to me. This ruined my experience and I just wanted to leave as soon as possible so I rushed my friend as she was getting shade matched. Once she was done, I check out with a small order. This experience ruined my day and possibly my whole week as this really upset me. I don't know why she acted this way and I would think it is racial profiling if she wasn't black, but she is! This is the first time I have ever felt like I've been profiled which is odd because she is a POC. I would think that maybe it was my makeup that made her judge or act this way, but I was wearing a decent amount of makeup that looked nice so this whole experience is very puzzling. I hope I never see that worker again as all the other employees were extremely nice. I have thought about this experience a lot and I have convinced myself that maybe this happened because I was carrying the products I was going to buy instead of grabbing a basket. Due to this experience I always pick up a basket when I walk into a Sephora even though I typically only buy 1 or 2 things at Sephoras, which is no different from this specific experience where I only brought one item. read more

This store is smaller than typical Sephora stores with significantly less inventory. Even the displays they do have are extremely picked over (however an employee told me they had a big sale recently so I'm sure that didn't help). The two main items I was looking for were completely sold out. Luckily their sheet mask section was relatively well stocked so my visit wasn't totally unsuccessful! Despite the lack of inventory, the employees couldn't be any friendlier or more helpful. I went in today primarily looking for a new perfume scent for my upcoming wedding and the employee that helped me was so sweet and took her time to give me a few recommendations that I could look for in another Sephora store or order online. Will not go here ever again. For one, some of the associates are mad rude and don't even say excuse me, they just look at you like "why are you standing there?" Secondly, I was there a while back and got COMPLETELY color matched all wrong, I ended up going to Sephora at Newport Mall where they gave me the correct shade and were completely nice and attentive, not to mention, they were way more welcoming and had better manners. I tried to return something I didn't like with the confirmation email and number. The first cashier said that she couldn't do anything for me because I wasn't a member of the beauty club. (I don't usually join things that track my purchases or require me to give out my phone number.) It was very strange exchange having the products in front of me that I'd received in the mail a few days ago, showing her the email, and having her come up with no solutions. This place obviously has a great makeup selection and it's easily accessible in downtown Hoboken. The staff can be a hit or miss though with how helpful and interactive they can be. While entering makeup paradise you want to walk through the isles without much worries and this location provides you with that paradise. The girls at this sephora are awesome! Not too pushy but definitely made themselves available and made me comfortable with any questions I had. I was looking for a specific palatte and upon calling 5 other city locations this was the only one that had it. I quickly placed 2 of them on hold and made my way to the train. Small Sephora for emergencies! Happy to have a Sephora in Hoboken right smack in the middle but the products are limited. They have a nice assortment of Brands: Marc Jacobs, Nars, Fenty, Charlotte Tillsbury Bobbi Brown & skin products etc but some lines have far less products on the shelt. I'd recommend the Drunk Elephant & Dr Dennis Gross skincare lines, they also have a small assortment of sheet masks. All the people that work here are very nice however, I'm not so sure that they're all experienced make up artists. It's not where I would go for a make-over but more for a quick question etc. Unfortunately, since Covid, you can't try products & testers aren't supposed to be used. It's a bit frustrating not being able to try a $50 foundation first but obviously it's not THEIR fault -we can blame the Prez for the Trump Virus & his inept handling of the pandemic. read more

I have no idea where all these bad reviews are coming from. Every time I go into that store everyone is warm and inviting and friendly. Yesterday I got my make up done for a roaring 20s party I was having at work. Jess my make up artist did my make up phenomenally she took the time to ask me what I wanted and incorporated everything that I asked for. I made sure I came the time that I was supposed to come which is 10 minutes prior to your appointment so this way they can discuss everything they want with you and you don't feel like you're rushed.This is the only place I will go and get my make up done and let me tell you I got so many compliments as I do every time I get my make up done there. read more

Horrible employees. I got to the location 2 minuets before closing and just needed to pick up a concealer. Door was closed and looked like they were ready to leave the store. Went to Sephora studio in Hoboken for the 1st time since stores have re-opened due to quarantine. From now on I will continue shopping online only. They don't have the best customer service. Very hit or miss but it's such a tiny store that they should have amazing customer service as they're not overwhelmed with too many customers at the moment. One employee was very kind, friendly and sampled anything I asked for on her hand since currently you can't test or even touch any product. The employee has to grab it for you. (Annoying since you have to keep asking an employee to test products on their hands). I later asked a different employee to sample the new Hudda Beauty lip balm, they have three different ones plus a new lip balm/gloss. I asked to sample it on her arm, she had such a bad tone right from the beginning: "it's just a balm" she kept saying that after I asked her to try each one"it's the same thing she kept saying" and when I asked for the gloss she said the same thing "it's just a gloss" and barely let me see it on her arm & literally just walked away without saying anything. I wish I noticed her name because nothing annoys me more than poor customer service where the employee clearly does not want to be at work type of attitude. She had a darker complexion with dreadlocks and some type of blonde highlights. I work in customer service and even on bad days you have stay professional and if the closeness is what had her uncomfortable then then she should not be working yet. It's their policy to have the customer see the sample on their hands so a kinder approach would have been appreciated. We are all wearing masks and you can wipe down surfaces with a disinfectant. I love Sephora but this stores employees with about 2 or 3 exceptions make me not want to go back. read more

I walked into Sephora looking for a specific item that they did not have in store and I was suggested to wait for one of the makeup gurus to try to find a solution. I am soooo hesitant to sit down with someone and have them show me product because I typically find that they will swindle you into buying whatever 5 products they need to that week. Marianne (I hope that is spelled right) sat down with me and walked me through problems I had with my skin. I was looking for an essence and found I had been using the product incorrectly so she showed me step by step how to make my dry, tired face--whimsical and luscious. I did buy most of the products she put in front of me--genuinely because my skin had never felt so soft and lush before. Seriously the first good experience I've had with a "beauty counter" type of exchange. I look forward to going back for further skin/makeup tips in the future. read more

Worst Sephora I've been too. Horrible customer service. I had an appointment for a full makeover which I made for my cousins wedding but my blowout across the street at dry bar ran long so I was late however I called and said I would be late and they told me they could only do a focus, one part of my face. When I got there they gave me someone that didn't even have any makeup on just black eyeshadow horrible done. You can always tell how someone is about to do makeup by the way their own makeup looks. I told her I wanted my eyes done and showed her a picture and she very rudely said "I can't do that you only have 15 minutes I can't do that in 15 minutes I can only use 3 colors." I said I didn't care how it looked but I wanted the same colors used. She gave me an attitude the ENTIRE 5 minutes , not 15, that she did my eyeshadow. She didn't speak to me once or even try to make small talk she just had a bitter face on the entire time. If you're going to be bitter the entire time ur doing my service don't do it. Have someone else do it or tell me to leave and don't waste my time the day I have an event. She clearly had no idea what she was doing she kept slapping it on and looking at the other eye and adding more and more. It looked absolutely disgusting I couldn't believe they let me walk out like that. Mind you there was no one else in the store but me and they weren't accommodating at all. Not to mention the lady didn't even know what she was doing so I don't know why they even let her touch my face. I called after I walked out to complain and I supposedly spoke to a manager who said she'd send me a gift for my inconvenience which she basically lied about to get me off the phone because this happened a month prior and I never got anything in the mail. These women that work here are TRUE ANGELS. I had come in to get my makeup done for my engagement photos. I had also booked an appointment at Drybar down the street (PS. NEVER GO THERE) Drybar pushed my appointment by an hour and a half, which would have ran through my appointment for makeup. Dana, the store manager, and Kate worked magic and decided to stay longer and work through their breaks to be able to help me. Angels, I'm telling you, but it does not stop there. My hair from Drybar was a disaster and all of the women of Sephora pulled together to make sure I walked out of there confident and beautiful. They did things that most people would not do to help me and for that, I am forever grateful for them. Not only did they do the right thing for me as a customer, but they went above and beyond to help make sure I was happy and felt good about the way I looked for my photos. Dana and Kate, you deserve an award for the best customer service I have ever experienced and I feel like every time I buy something from Sephora Hoboken I'll have to hug you on my way out. In August, right before vacation, I went to get a few things that I needed for a vacation at another location. While at checkout, I had found the minis of Olaplex by the register and had asked the cashier to leave out the Bumble & Bumble mini set in my basket. Unfortunately, she forgot and wrung it up. I figured I would return it after my vacation. I went into the Hoboken location because it was closer to where I live. The sales associate asked me if I had used it and I said no. She proceeded to open the little box and check all three little bottles to see if they were opened. I don't think this is their policy since I never had seen this before. I know that Sephora has a 30 day policy so I did not anticipate this response from the sales associate. I felt very uncomfortable by the way she did this. After she clearly saw they were not used, she processed my return. After this, I browsed the store since it was my first time there. It is a very small store that does not carry many brands that I use. While browsing I was asked about 5 time if I needed help. Maybe they are trained to do this. I felt like they were staring at me. I felt very uncomfortable. Perhaps I had an unpleasant response after the experience with my return. I will never shop at this location. Don't waste your time and visit a full Sephora store with nicer associates. read more
