We had a party of four first timers, My mom, myself, and my two boys (14 & 10) and we did the afternoon adventure. EVERYONE had an absolute blast. It was the highlight of our trip and one of the most fun things we have done in years. This really is an adventure. You will be bouncing all over the raft and working in sync as a team to line yourself up for the best past through wild waters. The guides are amazing at keeping everyone locked in and also sharing the beauty of the river. I cannot recommend this excursion enough! Some details on the family option: You drive in to their supervised lot, park your vehicle, and after 30 min of putting on gear and going through instructions you jump in the rafts and go down river for about 4 miles to the lake where you are picked up by a bus and brought back to the lot. The whole trip took about 2.5 hours but I would expect some variance. There were two spots in the run where you can jump in the water and swim around for a bit. One parting thought is that if you are in the area and you see the river you may think you have an idea of what it looks like, but I was truly taken aback by the beauty of the scenery from the perspective of the winding path of the river. You really do get to see a view that is just as unique and special as any park trail.

Right from the get go the staff welcomes your group and is telling you instructions to take care of yourself, your group and the caves/park. They greet you with enthusiasm and you learn so much. Please arrive on time! For parking there's quite a bit of spaces. There's restroom nearby so you can go before heading out. You can bring your backpack onto the trail but can't bring it inside the cave. So you can either bring it and leave it on the floor outside the cave or in your car. The trail can be a little challenging for some but very doable. Can be a little challenging for some children and some older adults. This also includes for the caves.The staff are there to watch for your safety but they do warn you about your surroundings. The cave is very cool to explore but there will be some tight spaces you will navigate through. So I don't recommend bringing a stroller and make sure your kids are able to walk and stay near. They will definitely enjoy the cool nature stuff inside! There's a gift shop stand near the entrance of the trail. You can buy nice souvenirs, snacks, and support! Overall we loved our tour and we would comeback again for this. Thank you to all the staff of Crystal Cave for all that you do and taking care of this natural beauty.

Once it was time to hike down they made some general announcements and we met the guide at entrance of the cave. It was nice to have someone tell us the history of the cave and guide us through. The 20 minute hike down and up wasn't too bad and was completely doable for my 6 year old son. Overall, it was a unique experience and I'm glad we made the stop during our Sequoia trip!

You'll get much easier parking closer to the trailhead near the bridge, plus you get to enjoy the cooler morning weather before it heats up. What to expect: It's a beautiful, rugged environment with a well maintained trail, with Yellow-Bellied Marmots out loafing in the sun. Even if you visit in late spring or early summer, don't be surprised to see patches of snow lingering in the shaded sections. Family note: The trail is definitely kid-friendly, though you'll want to keep a close eye on the little ones toward the end of the trail, as there are some ledges to navigate. The whole experience gives off major Skyrim vibes. It feels like you're walking toward Riverwood, just with a bit more uphill climbing. It's an absolute gem of a trail and well worth the effort.

You walk back the same way you came. On our way back, we came across a marmot, which is basically a giant squirrel. It was my first time seeing one. So adorable.

The hike requires you to hike up 350 steps which is approximately 0.25 miles and 350 steps down which is approximately 0.25 miles down which is 0.50 miles! I saw children and senior citizens hiking up the trail. Hiking sticks were not necessary! You can definitely go at your own pace. There are parts of the stairs where you would need to let people go first. Otherwise, wonderful trail!! Parking can be challenging. Many cars parked along the side of the road. There are many more trails to choose from if this particular trail was too short. Definitely add it to your hiking list if you are visiting sequoia national park.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and appreciated the convenient location and welcoming staff. With a few improvements to maintenance and cleanliness, this location could provide an even better experience.

After 1 mile, turn right at the White Chief Trail junction. The Eagle Lake Trail shifts in style from a straight track to a series of switchbacks that chew into the elevation. At the junction with the Mosquito Lakes Trail, turn left and set your sites on Eagle Lake, 1.7 miles away. Alternatively, hikers could turn right here and hike the same distance to the lowest of four Mosquito Lakes located one ridge west of Eagle Lake. The ascent tapers as you follow Eagle Creek to its source, passing a pair of unique "sink holes" where the water disappear underground into strange craters. Pass through a wooded meadow and dissect an alpine bounder field. The trail mounts a rock slope beneath Eagle Lake and offers fine northeast views toward Sawtooth and Mineral Peaks. The route to this lake follows the same trail for the first 2 miles, ascending steadily up the west side of the Mineral King Valley. The trail ends at the north end of Eagle Lake, where a small dam, maintained by Southern California Edison, enhances the volume of the lake. We just went to Eagle Lake for an overnight camping trip. It's mid-August…read more We first stopped at the ranger station to get some information about the trail. That's where we rented bear can for our food. The rangers were really nice and knowledgeable. We pay $15 for camping permit and $5 for bear can rental fee. It was 4 of us and our 2 year old son. We started hike just OK, but it's ALL UPHILL till the lake. Our son did great, covered good mileage, but of course we ended up carrying him later. If you are going with little kids, it's best to have proper carriage because the terrain gets pretty rocky and steep. It's best if you have both hands free to climb up there. Hiking sticks strongly recommended. It is one of the hardest back-country camping trip, but it was rewarding! The meadows were so beautiful, saw wild life, and the sense of accomplishment was priceless!
