Was in DC just before the holiday for a business trip and we were brought out to Sequoia for a Sunday night dinner. Located in a great little spot right on the water; I had been here years ago and ate at another restaurant nearby. Anyway! Went off and started with the seasonal sangria which was absolutely delicious and refreshing. Came with a nice visual appeal to it too! Apps for the table: fresh guac and chips, calamari, lobster flatbread (my favorite of the bunch). All were fantastic and came with enough to share; we had a party of 6. All of our entrees were absolutely amazing; could have easily chosen anything my colleagues chose and would have loved it. I went for one of their specials, not on the menu, which was a surf and turf selection; I went for the filet, which was delectable and a fresh crab cake. The crab cake was beyond fresh and delicious. For dessert, had to do some tiramisu which was infused with kahlua. Absolutely to die for. read more

Just came back from a date night here to cap off DC restaurant week and....it was okay. Some observations I made were: A) The location of this restaurant is great! Right on the water with a lot of foot traffic involving people checking out the massive fountain that sits in the middle, with other nearby restaurants. B) When ordering a cocktail, they brought it over to me in a plastic cup. Sequoia is supposed to be a sophisticated, upscale restaurant so to be serving cocktails that way doesn't match the scale of the restaurant. We were seated outdoors so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it, but yeah...no. C) I got the feeling like they were rushing the dinner along. My boyfriend and I put in our appetizer, entree, and dessert , and I feel like there wasn't much wiggle room between each dish. Like literally back to back to back. All in all it's okay, nothing mind blowing. All the activity in that area gives the restaurant an allure that I don't think food wise it lives up to. read more

The food was adequate but the Service was terrible. We waited for everything, only saw the server 3 times in the entire meal. We asked 4 people to get our server and he still never came. We received our dessert menu's and they didn't come back. We had to get up and ask for our check. Georgetown is bustling with activities and restaurants. The view from the outside deck is amazing. I enjoyed watching the activities on the water from our table: kayaking, boats of all sizes, geese and ducks and people walking by the waterfront. If you can't get to the Wharf,the waterfront is a nice alternative. We were able to get a table even though the restaurant was busy. Our server was nice. The menu had lots of choices for meat eaters. There were also wedge salads and Cesar salads. The flatbread was delicious. The pasta was flavorful. My friends enjoyed the seafood (you can get extra bread to dip into the sauce). The location was beautiful. I bet this place gets crowded on a completely sunny day. There is a nearby garage ($15 after 5pm). Street parking is possible, but iffy. read more

Hard to believe I've never reviewed this place. I enjoy my visits to Sequoia. It's a beautiful restaurant with all the natural light you'll need if you choose not to dine alfresco. Temps have to be extreme for me to avoid sitting outside because the views are excellent. I mostly go for the iconic Sunday brunch buffet, special occasions and private events. Reservations are highly recommended. I recall going one time without a rezzie for brunch and let's just say the seating delay & experience were less than stellar. Service, food and drinks are solid. The price though was a little high in my opinion for what they had to offer, and the festive atmosphere and setting can get a bit too loud and raucous to hear your party talking. Chose this place for our fancy night, during our girls weekend in DC. It overlooks the water and decor is definitely fancy. Atmosphere is fun/modern and the waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. Wow, it's an expensive spot but imo it is worth it. When you go to a buffet like this, you do need to know how to direct your energy though. Aim for the meats & seafood. The staff are all super friendly except had an awkward moment toward the end of their service at the milkshake station, I made a request and the lady manning the station just waved her hand essentially signing no but didn't make it clear as to why.. Overall the food is excellent, the prime rib was super tender, probably ate about 5 servings along with the snow crab legs !!! The paella and sushi station and their bacon.. () was very good. The crab cakes were decent and they ball them and fry it right there. The sausage, Mac and cheese and taco bar you can probably skip. The waffle was also surprisingly moist and delicious! From the dessert bar, I had a variety of items and I love how the bites are small so you can try more things. And, if you don't like it, you don't have a huge piece sitting there and not as wasteful. I have NEVER seen a pasta prepared in a cheese wheel at a buffet! pasta alla ruota! Chocolate fountain! wow. so many options from sushi, dim sum, custom omelette, fried chicken, my only requests if they wanted to expand/cater to more asian guests: would be "japanese breakfast" = beautifully prepared salmon and miso soup, and jook (rice porridge for Taiwanese/Chinese) but you can't have everything and they had almost everything! minus 1 star b/c $200 for 2 people is a lot for 2 petite asian women. read more

We started with the grilled Octopus. Very nice: not too smoky, still tender and juicy. The olives and greens are a goid compliment. Sequoia's is where you take folks who've never been to the city, so they can see that view. I've been a frequent flyer at Sequoias over the years and will tell you it's worth every penny. My favorite are the bottomless brunches, with both Saturday and Sunday having different menus. Just look at these oysters!! Some of the best I've had. Wow, what a disappointment. Most of the food here is pretty terrible, and that's even without factoring for the high cost of dinner entrees. I ordered the chimichurri chicken and shrimp and it was one of the most bland and dry chicken I've ever had. Absolutely no flavor or taste. The shrimp was the saving grace, since it was juicy, but no flavor on it either. The rice and plantains were fine. I thought it was only my food but then my gf ordered the NY strip with lobster tail added and that also sucked. The steak was cooked fine (she asked medium) but again, not a lot of flavor. For $42 (just for the steak), it was a joke. And there was no butter provided for the lobster tail which is strange (an extra $35). Also, no complimentary bread. The sangria punch was decent. The dessert (key lime cream brûlée) wasn't anything special. At least our server was pretty nice. Now for the "decor" we were placed in an alternative room since they had a wedding going on and that room was pretty gloomy. Pretty bad lighting and it just felt like a very cheap place to eat dinner without any decorations really. Didn't feel fancy at all. It had some chandeliers but again, no charm anywhere in the room. I will probably never eat here again, even if it's a free meal, cause it would not be tasty. In DC where there are so many options, go with something that's worth your time and money, which this "restaurant" clearly isn't. Highly overpriced bland food, and the view doesn't make up for it at all. read more

If you like seafood Sequoia is the place for you. The seafood plater is a can't miss dish. It is easily shareable between 2 to 6 people. My personal favorite dish was the surf and turf with the Filet and Lobster Tail. There are also non-seafood options for those in the group who may not be the biggest fans. For drinks I recommend trying the Scarlet Fog. Not only does the drink taste great but the presentation is a sight to see. In terms of service the staff were kind and accommodating. As far as location goes, the restaurant has a fantastic spot in Georgetown with a great view of the Potomac River. There's a large indoor seating area and an equally large outdoor seating area. Overall, I recommend going to Sequoia with friends or even for dinner with colleagues just as long as majority of the party enjoys seafood. read more

Celebrated Easter weekend in DC with family and decided to treat them to a ferry ride (on Maryland side) to the Sequoia in DC. Our plan for the ferry ride was to see the Cherry Blooms but we missed it by a few days but Sequoia Restaurant made up for it with the beautiful large window view of the Potomac. This place is so beautiful...did I already say that? LOL Anyway it has two floors, first floor is for public dining, upstairs is for private parties. We arrived early so the host escorted us over to the bar. We ordered drinks and before we could finish our drinks our table was ready. Our bartender was gracious enough to bring our drinks over which was not far from our view. Never wanna lose sight of your drink...just me. Anyway we were seated by the window with a view to see the boats go by and drop off people- perfect! We finished our drinks, looked over the menu and when we looked up our waiter was ready to take our order. The food was outstanding, cooked appropriately, seasoned well and very fresh. The only reason is it's two stars is bc the food was decent and the servers tried to help Started with me being 30 minutes late bc traffic was horrific..we were stuck in an uber for over an hour. The hostess was nasty with an attitude and said "you're late can't seat you" There were plenty of empty tables.0 I called manager who was very nice and seated us.. All was ok until desert .My daughters sorbet took 25 minutes with me asking 3 different people. Towards the end two different people brought same desert and said it was in the house . This place is awful. I visited on a Friday with a group for happy hour. We wanted to sit outside. It was going be a group of about 12 and people came on waves. So we're shown to an empty patio and told to sit anywhere. So we do and the first few of us go to the bar to order drinks. While there, we were told we had go to a table on the next patio tier and get table service. We do that and then someone else told us we had to go back to where we originally were. Clearly, staff here is not empowered to make decisions or give guests the correct information. So we go back to the first tier and order from the bar. The drinks are weak and not well made. I ordered the fried calamari and took a few bites. It tasted so off that I didn't continue with it. The bartenders had the worst attitudes ever and shouldn't be in any public facing job. We were there for over an hour when yet another staff member comes onto the patio and yells at everyone, not just us, that we can only have so many chairs per table. The patio only had 5 or 6 parties there and was nowhere near being full. The chairs are super uncomfortable anyway so no loss but it just goes to show the poor training here. I walked through the main dining area close to 6:30 p.m. and unsurprisingly, it was empty. It seems as if Sequoia purposely wants guests to have a bad experience, as customer service and comfort are not to be a concern. Definitely a skip. read more

the location is amazing, especially with the nice weather sitting outdoors with the water view. food was decent. I enjoyed the chili shrimp squid pasta, delicious! It is spicy so if you can't handle any, don't get it. Appetizers looked good too, my friends got them. Lastly, the service was the main reason for 3 stars. We were definitely neglected towards the end when our entrees were served. Especially during the check part, our waitress was chitchatting on the side as we flagged her down at least twice but she didn't care to come over. Took us an unnecessary extra 20 mins to finally pay the bill. If you come with a large group, they do allow you to pay up to 4 cards. However when you tell them we can pay with 1, gotta give that affirmation the card WILL go thru! read more

Wonderful way to brunch on Easter Sunday. In addition to bottomless drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) there's a wide variety at the buffet. There were special stations for tacos, pasta, omelets, seafood, carving, and sushi. My wife and I enjoyed everything we sampled. I came here for the Sunday brunch buffet. I tried the prime rib, tacos, crab cakes, oysters, sushi and their various desserts. I liked how they had so many options for food, but each individual thing I tried was lacking in flavor and didn't stand out to me. The bellinis and mimosas also tasted too syrupy. For the price of the buffet I would rather have a regular dining experience where I just choose one entree/appetizer/drink, that would just be better quality overall. However, the service was good and the restaurant had a nice ambiance with lovely views of the water. read more

Went to sequoia after hearing great things about it. Our first impression was "Wow!" It is gorgeous inside. Very spacious and elegant. Our server came right away, she was super friendly and very helpful. We loved everything ! We had the lobster flatbread and calamari for our appetizers and they were so yummy! That chipotle sauce for the calamari, so good! Our drinks were so good too! The scarlet fog is a complete show stopper. Visually beautiful and very tasty. We had the Chilean sea bass with Risotto and the lobster scampi for our entrees. Both delicious ! We didn't leave anything behind !! I have nothing but good things to say about Sequoia. My co workers and I frequently visit for food and drinks after work or kayaking in the Potomac river. I would make a reservation if you're planning on coming here since it does get packed. I came here for a celebratory dinner for landing a new job. The views of the Potomac river are immaculate. We ordered the blackberry mojito to drink, lobster Mac n cheese, chilean sea bass, and New York strip. The food quality is 10/10 perfection. Hands down the chilean sea bass was out of this world. Sequoia is located by Georgetown's waterfront. My friends and I were seated outdoors which had an amazing view. The interior was nice as well, however the restrooms were a bit dark and confusing to find. We had gone to the restrooms after placing our orders and when we returned, our table was wiped clean! All our drinks etc were gone. The waitress noticed shortly after we got back and brought everything out again. We had some great drinks at Sequoia, they were colorful and fun! Totally recommend it! In terms of food though, it was a bit pricier and was nothing special. The burrata heirloom salad was good but I didn't finish my short ribs. I found it a little salty and the polenta/okra didn't go well with it IMO, a little heavy for a summer day. The raspberry sorbet was flavorful. My friend said the salmon wasn't seasoned enough and was just ok. I tried my other friend's chicken and shrimp dish and that was good. Overall, an ok experience. read more

Sequoia, I love your 2019 brunch, but plz fix the furniture in your "bubble". My partner and I have regularly come to sequoia (especially their brunch, now open on Sunday) as we live on the Georgetown waterfront and frequent most restaurants here. We always bring family here and whenever asked where to go in Georgetown, we immediately recommend Sequoia brunch. Today, on a Tuesday, my partner and I thought, "hey( let's go to sequoia happy hour before it gets too hot. They have an amazing patio." Also $2 oysters and like $8 smoking' Ritas? Yeah sign me up! So, we seated in the bubble after the staff chatted right quick (sorry we arrived 15 mins late)! At first my partner and I thought "hey, the bubble sounds awesome. That fact that it had a name, ayeee." But after passing the nice furniture in their upper patio, we were greeted with this beach looking high tops. At first I thought, is it caused how we're dressed? Sure, it's 4:30 pm and it's happy hour. But, my partner gave them the benefit of the doubt and said "hey, we're so close to the bar tender (who is amazing)." Which was true and we got served so fast. She's amazing. Honestly it's just the furniture. I saw multiple groups of people get seated and immediately wanted to leave because of the vibe and furniture. People come to sequoia for an experience. We are paying more than Tony & Joes, and all the other restaurants for an experience. Please give us the beautiful furniture and experience. One other thing I wanted to point out was the Korean chicken salad and the clam bistro, both dishes were warm and the chicken from the Korean chicken salad salad tasted like it was from a bag. I am kind of interested to know what this place has done to deserve 3 stars but it won't stop me for giving it 4 because all my visits to this place have been amazing. I only have one suggestion to make which I will do toward the ends. First of all, the service of this place is impeccable. No doubt about this. From reception to servers, too shelf courtesy and etiquettes. Every drink on their menu is a delight. Very refreshing and hits all the right notes. I have had the grilled octopus in the appetizer section and it is very refreshing. In the entrees, I have had the bronzino and Chilean sea bass. Both Entrees were good and cooked to perfection. Very tasty food no doubt about it. The only problem with this place is prices. Way too high honestly. A dinner of 2 can go upto $250 with dessert added. The location matters I know but the ambiance is nothing too special to justify these prices. They should adjust them a bit. That's my only suggestion. Other than that the place is perfect. read more

Came here on 1/13/24. To celebrate my sister birthday. From the time we walked in the restaurant it was an amazing experience. The hostess was very polite and kindly let us wait at the bar until the rest of our dinner party arrived. The servers were very attentive and made sure we enjoyed ourselves throughout the dinner. The restaurant was nicely decorated, very cozy one of the nicest places I been this year. Now let's get to the food. We had a lot of food and everything was very good to delicious. Only complaint I had was the spicy guacamole, it wasn't no spice no where and that was the only let down. The jumbo shrimp cocktails was very good. Lobster bisque was also very good. This place was everything I heard it would be and more! I've been wanting to visit this location for 2 years now. I've always heard great things about the brunches well as have seen great pictures. I made this place a part of my birthday celebration weekend and I knew the buffet wouldn't be an option for brunch due to Covid but I was confident the regular menu would be stellar and it was! I made my reservations a week prior by calling and requesting outdoor seating. When my party and I arrived everything was set up and ready. The views were absolutely gorgeous! If we would have been any closer to the water, we would have been wet! Haha Beautiful beautiful views of the water and great for people watching. Prior to entering, we had to go through several Covid measures to ensure everyone's safe which I appreciated. This place takes safety seriously! Once we sat down, we were greeted by our table person Patrick. Patrick was excellent! He was professional, kind, quick, efficient and had great recommendations. We ordered the Fish & Chips, Steak Omelet, Crab Cake Benedict, Chicken & Waffle and a Bellini. The food came out within 15 minutes of ordering. Great portion sizes with all dishes. That food was so good that the 6 of us were quiet as church mice while we partook in all the tasty deliciousness. Having brunch at the Sequoia at Washington Harbour was the perfect ending to a fantastic birthday weekend. I look forward to returning again and trying different food items!
