After breaking my patella (knee cap) in 2 places, I had surgery and went to Mt Vernon Healthcare…read morefor rehab. Do not confuse this with Mt Vernon Hospital as I did! This place takes sub-acute patients (unable to sustain 3 hrs of PT). Mt. Vernon Hospital/Rehab only takes acute patients. The good: The nurses and CNAs for the most part were extremely helpful, and compassionate. Because of the limited staff and emergencies, they were spread thin. The shining star nurse was MohamedAli and he juggled many things during his shifts, always with efficiency, a kind word and a big smile. The cleaning staff did an ok job of cleaning and emptying trash. The bad: it's in dire need of renovations! It is worn and shabby. The call button and controls for the bed were constantly falling on the floor from the bed as there was no place to put them. Fortunately, my friend was able to jerryrig a cord to the bed-stand and I was able to retrieve them from the floor by using his cord as a fishing pole. It was impossible to cut the light off or on above the bed as you couldn't reach the cord behind the bed. My friend pinned a clothes pin to the light chain and attached to the sheet. The closet door against the wall next to the bed only opened from left to right making it impossible for me to get my clothes. The doors could have been easily been reversed for easy access but I had friends helping me. The food was disgusting! My family brought in food and I kept fruit and yogurt in a cooler. The ugly re PT 1: modern PT room within the building. Staff pleasant. During my stay, I had a one week check up with surgeon. I was taken out of one brace and put in a high end ($650) and told never remove this brace. I asked if PT would know this and dr. replied "if they don't know, they shouldn't be physical therapists." According to my script, only PT could unlock the brace to move my knee gradually. The PT removed the brace and clueless as to how to put it back on. When I left with her, it fell down my leg and knee no longer straight. When my friend arrived, he couldn't believe what happened. He talked immediately to her supervisor to no avail. This happened the day before I was leaving and fortunately I had inhomec PT the next day and he fixed it which took a half hour. The ugly No. 2 problem with PT: I was told a PT session was ordered for the weekend but that never happened so a weekend wasted. The ugly No 3 problem with PT: A PT came in my room at night and said the front desk said he should stop by and check on me. I never got out of bed and he spent a few minutes and left. When I mentioned this the next day, I was told that was a PT session, thus charged!! The uglier re prescriptions: I was sent home with two controlled substance prescriptions. The pharmacy said they could not fill a copy of a prescription for a controlled substance. Friend goes back to Mt Vernon and they found a doctor who wrote out these prescriptions. Back to pharmacy. This was not acceptable because his DEA ID did not match his name. This dr. must have gotten his degree from a correspondence course. I was unable to get these drugs and in horrendous pain that evening. Next day friend returned and talked to Administrator who found a doctor who knew how to write prescriptions and stamped with her DEA ID. BOTTOM LINE: The 2 stars are for the dedicated nurses and CNA's. For the rest of this place and staff a big "0". This is long winded, but I took the time to write it, in the event it spares one of your family members or friends from selecting this facility.

She had been bedridden since her fall and was not able to reach any item on her side table. Every day we questioned our decision to keep her at Mount Vernon Healthcare Center. She became comfortable with her CNA and so we were fearful of upsetting her with change when it took so long for her to adjust initially. . Be aware that these issues are not due to the pandemic, this is the norm. This place has so many issues that are alarming. If you expect communication about your loved one, you may not have anyone answer your call. You would think that you might at least get a recording telling you that you have reached the facility. But this is not the case, the phone will ring at least 30 times and then you get hung up on. If you do get through, you may or may not get connected with a person. Often you need to leave a message if the inbox isn't full, and you may or may not get a phone call back even if you talk to a person and they need time to find out the answer to your situation. This includes the nurses. My mother passed away last week. We were not given any notice that her health had declined to such a point that she was possibly living her last days. We were fortunate that we set up an in-person visit with her (that almost got cancelled because they were doing construction - figure out a plan B, MV!) and found that he condition had dramatically changed since we saw her 2 weeks prior. She couldn't speak, eyes glazed over, couldn't hold a fork for her to have a piece of birthday cake. And NOONE let us know about the change. Remember, it's a pandemic. We can't get in to check on her. Even if it wasn't a pandemic, you would expect a call to be informed of a decline in health. By the way - don't get me started about how they handled the pandemic. She died two days later. We were able to see her after she passed to say good-bye. We were floored by the condition of her room. We discovered unopened mail from as far back as June. It's October. NOONE helped her opened mail that contained pictures and mementos intended to cheer her up and keep her engaged with family. In addition there were vases of completely dead flowers. SERIOUSLY, not one person could take the time to throw out dead flowers - even the social worker. How disgusting! Given that she couldn't hold a fork the day we saw her, we have serious doubts that anyone was taking the time to feed her. Given that there was an unopened toothbrush that we gave the facility, we have serious doubts that anyone was helping her brush her teeth. Given that there was unopened mail, we have serious doubts that anyone was engaging her to ease the feelings of isolation she most certainly was experiencing. Over the years we've had meetings where we have expressed our concerns. They nod their heads and say "you're right", we should be better. We have even complained to the co-operate office, but nothing ever changed. Bottom line - this place is a living nightmare. Check the dates on any good reviews.

It appears that He loves his work and it shows. He has a great attitude, explains EVERYTHING in detail, which I like. It helps me understand what exactly this exercise is doing or why I hurt. He was also very sensitive to My finances. He recommended that I get gear for PT, but also advised that I could get it online cheaper. (He did not have to say that but did so I could potentially save a few bucks.) The environment is good. I like the dynamics Aaron and Erica have. They are pretty funny and it's actually fun hanging around doing PT. I had Erica one session, she dry needled me and did a great job. She is extremely professional. It's really cute to see her interact with the child patients. She has good rapport with them and always is super friendly and greets you with her amazing smile. The front desk are very good at working with you. I had work meetings that popped up last minute. I had to reschedule and cancel they were great, every time! Their corporate office makes them have multiple Patients at the same time, but they do a good job dividing their attention. I recommend Aaron and Erica, they made my PT experience stellar.

I can't offer enough praise about the professionalism and care at this hospital!…read more This past Monday, November 10th, I checked myself in at the Inova on Parkers Lane Emergency after feeling dizzy and nauseous. I was registered and seen in less than 15 minutes by a number of doctors and nurses. As it came out, my blood count was seriously low and I was admitted to the hospital right away to receive a blood transfusion and a round-the-clock care; and the level of care provided by the nurses and doctors couldn't have been any better. Today, they performed supper body endoscopy on me to ensure I had no internal bleeding, which turned out to be negative, and subsequently I was discharged and went home. I'd like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all staff members at the Inova Alexandria at Parker's Lane, particularly to Dr. Mirza as well as my nurses Puja aLeo, Ego, nd MiMo in the intermediate Care unit, and to Dr. Lou, Dr. Haj and nurses Julie,, and Perinne in the Endoscopy department and everyone else whose name I regretfully don't remember.

They provide a safe space to heal and grow for your loved one in the hospital and all the loved ones outside of the hospital. All the staff from case workers, to doctors to charge nurses to technicians and specialists, it feels like a big family you are joining until you feel better again. God is in the hospitals more than the churches some say. And this place is a wholesome place to heal and grow both as a patient, or a relation to a patient. The gardens are gorgeous, the play grounds are shaded, the food is delicious and reasonably priced in terms of 2025 standard. All the staff give you love and support and that is what we all want in life.
