However, after paying the "one week in advance" when I booked two weeks prior, I was not advised that I was going to be prevented from checking in until I paid the full balance, until I was 45 minutes away from the apartment.
Despite it being an admitted clerical error (they neglected to follow up and advise of same) on their parts, Spotahome came across as ransom takers, and contacted the landlord as if I was trying to scam him and told him not to let me in until the received the payment. So I'm sitting in an Uber trying to make the payment before we arrived at the property.
The landlord and I had already built a rapport and engaged in a WhatsApp video call a full week prior so he knew we weren't scammers and I knew he wasn't.
Needless to say, because I was no longer in the US, and they don't have a way to conduct an EFT bank draft on a US Bank, my bank triggered a fraud alert when I used the link they sent via PayPal. I also incurred an addition $100 in top of my balance due, because of "conversion rates".
Just an unnecessary and frustrating hassle that could have been handled before I left my home and headed over to London.
I'd suggest they not only get a better process, but get a way to accept payments through other means besides PayPal and Stripe. They charge RIDICULOUS fees, and I was able to pay the deposit through the app, so why not the balance?
