I graduated from this school and I do not advise anyone to attend Seton Hall. You receive a very subpar education. Seton Hall is ranked 165 out of 436 colleges/universities. Seton Hall charges $50,000 a year. Rutgers is ranked 41 and Rutgers only charges $33,000 a year. Rutgers is a by far better school than Seton Hall and it is much cheaper. Most of the professors at Seton Hall teach directly from a text book and then test you on what you read in the text book. It is that bad. None of the professors taught us any software programs that we would need to know for our majors and for employment upon graduation. A lot of the professors who teach at the school are very old and I have serious doubts whether they even know how to use a computer. You will not be learning any cutting edge technology at Seton Hall. They have no jobs for you upon graduation. You are completely on your own to find your own employment when you graduate. The school has a Career Center, but it is worthless. It is staffed by 18 year old students who have never had a career, which means they have no connections to help you get a job and they have no advice to give you because they are 18 years old and never had a career. The jobs they have posted in the Career Center are mainly entry-level jobs that pay very low wages. You can find better jobs on Careerbuilder. The school has no inside track or connections to help students get jobs and none of the Professors I had knew anyone to help students get a job. I think if the Professors knew anyone, they probably would not be teaching at Seton Hall. The school is surrounded by very bad areas with a lot of crime around the campus. That crime spills over onto the campus and into South Orange where Seton Hall is located. Students get attacked on and off campus. I believe the school tries to suppress the actual crime stats in order to make the school seem much safer than the reality of the situation. When I was attending Seton Hall, there was student that was shot at in her vehicle by someone trying to car jack her on campus and that incident never made it into the crime stats for the campus. She supposedly went to the Dean and told him about it. And my last point may sound trivial, but I think it does matter. Most of the students at this school are from New Jersey and they have very heavy New Jersey accents. They sound like they are characters on the Sopranos. I cannot imagine that heavy New Jersey accent comes across well to employers when interviewing for a job. It is very likely your children will pick up a New Jersey accent if they attend Seton Hall and they are not from New Jersey. read more

The SO campus is very pretty. It's gated. When you drive through the entrance to campus, it's off of SO Ave, you'll need to pass through a security checkpoint. The campus has lots of greenery. I really like their library. There is also a Dunkin' Donuts inside the building. I've visited here to work with doctoral students and also for a software training for work. The library is nice for graduate students because they have their own study area. It's quiet, plus there are 2 mac workstations inside. read more

Great gated South Orange campus! Love the entire educational community learning environment. Student turn campus are the best! The campus has been updated with a new sports center, amazing student center lounge and has added some many events for the students to enjoy, both athletic games and numerous club sponsored. This campus has it all including a downtown 1-2 mile walk into town or you can catch the campus bus that's stops at the local train which take you into NYC in 20 minutes. My son and I were here for the open house and tour and I was seriously impressed. I've been to the campus numerous times, but getting a real tour, being able to talk to departments and organizations, and get a solid presentation from the Dean and Faculty from the program in which my son wants to study made for a great day. So far, based solely on the academic and internship opportunities, I'd put this as my #1 choice for him, but we'll see. It's the only school in NJ he's considering and a little close to home, so we'll see what happens next year when he has to make some decisions. read more

I despise this school, and if I had not already wasted this much time and money being here I would have transferred. Registration was always a nightmare and no one was helpful, The registrar acted like their hands were tied and professors were allowed to do anything they wanted. Overpriced and not worth the money, go somewhere more affordable. I have not found a single justifiable amenity that makes going to this school worth the price tag. Was sexually harassed by another student in my class and was turned away from the title ix coordinator, assistant dean of students, and president's assistant. I have video evidence and the assistant dean of students gaslighted me and said "what I saw was not what happened" without any further explanation. I still have to endure classes with this man who has not received any repercussions because of his disability. Sorry to say but having a learning disability dodoesn't doesn't give you the right to harass another student! No one cares about you in this university once they have your money they make you solve your own issues even if you are harassed it is disgusting. read more

Came here today for a school tour and open house. The students that participated in the event were very helpful, nice and informative. They answered all of our questions and had the decency of keeping our outdoor experience to a minimum, considering the frigid weather. If you're interested in applying or having your kids apply, we found out some wonderful information. Honor students have priority for preferred housing, in the next 1-2 years they will open their SHU Medical School and they are comparable to ivy league schools but offer a more intimate learning experience. The campus is a great size; not too big and overwhelming but large enough so that you have some space to walk to/from here and there. SHU seems like a great alternative to ivies, especially since they offer merit-based discounts and you're just not ever going to get that with an ivy, unless (on paper) you're financially in need. read more

Horrible wifi and food. dead on the weekends and no social life. their dual degree programs are just bait for freshmen. most of them get kicked out after the first semester anyway. most of the teachers in the science department are just here for their research and horrible teachers. no wonder so many people transfer. This review only pertains to the John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations. What an excellent program. I went here for my Masters from 2008 to 2010 and enjoyed every one of my professors and classes. And no, I'm not just giving in 5 stars because I went here. The professors were great mostly because of their backgrounds. For example, my international criminal law professors were international lawyers, my international human rights professor the former Pakistani Ambassador to the United Nations, etc. When I was there, the Dean was the former US Ambassador to Bosnia-Herzegovina. I never had any problems dealing with the registrar or the accounting offices. Didn't have to worry about financial aid either, because I never received any for grad school! So administratively, Seton Hall seemed to be squared away. The career development people were also incredible and hooked me up with the job I currently have. Also, because Seton Hall doesn't provide housing for graduate students, I can't speak for campus life, dorms, etc. The few downfalls to this program: 1) The location is not the greatest. South Orange has some good spots, but the area right around the campus can be shady. 2) Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School graduates are almost certainly to be your biggest job competitors once you graduate. 3) The program has only been around for 10-15 years so it probably hasn't earned the praise it deserves because it's so young, but I think it's off to a solid start. read more

I did two years at seton hall university. I think I didn't appreciate the school until I transferred. Anyways, the campus life is alright. There were frat parties and school promoted activities, Rutgers and NJIT are also close by (driving distance), Hoboken is a short train ride away and so is manhattan! The staff was well educated. This school is definitely more challenging than others I've attended so keep that in mind. The dorms are kinda shitty need to be renovated. During my second year I lived In the apartments off campus that the school provided and that was much better. They take fire safety very seriously which I guess is a good thing but those 1 am fire drills were not fun... the cafeteria food wasn't so bad! I have a better time at Seton Hall than queens college (where I dormed) or Adelphi which I commute to for grad school. It's expensive if you dorm which is my biggest complaint. For 20k a year you mine as well get your moneys worth and go to a school with an awesome social environment. This schools social aspects were mediocre. read more

I really enjoyed my time at Seton Hall..the campus is always beautiful in the winter when it's decorated and summer on the green is always great...it's a nice walk down to the train station and within south orange and I always found the professors to be helpful. I had many classes in the school of Business which was a nice building to work out of. My favorite spot was the sandwich spot. Tried to enroll in the ROTC program. Worst secretary or receptionist named Angella Gladden!!! She is rude and disrespectful!! I asked questions and she would reply in a rude way no matter what. I called her by her full name Angella Gladden and she responded don't ever call me that, I am Ms. Gladden, not Angella Gladden, don't don't do it. I was in shock by the form she talked to me. It looks like to me that she hated her life at that point. It's not the first time I tried to contact her. I told her I did not want to report or complain about her, so if she can please stop being disrespectful but I guess she didn't care. She replied with "report me or complain, I can care less!" Along with questions with how are you going to afforded seton hall or how are you going to be a student and do rotc like I couldn't work around that schedule. Ok I went to Seton Hall for undergrad and now grad school. I wouldn't say the undergrad was 5 stars, but the grad school is 100%. The Classical Studies courses are by far the best with the best professors teaching them. I only wish Professor Lake was still there because I would continue to take his mythology classes forever and ever. Every professor in the Classics department always went out of their way to help me out. I found the professors were generally understanding. My advice to students is to give yourself plenty of time to figure out any scheduling issues, etc. Sometimes you have to runaround the campus to get problems solved, but it's like that at most colleges. Professors and admin are generally understanding if you are nice and professional. Basketball games are super fun and there's a bus that takes you right from campus to the game at The Rock (Prudential Center, Newark). There's also a train station so it's super fun to go into the city or Hoboken. Grad school is def. 5 stars. I have enjoyed all but 1 of my MPA classes. The professors are brilliant, so are the heads of the program. I've even enjoyed a bunch of the books we've read minus some of the boring text books. Graduate school is such a difference and I am so glad I decided to come back for my Nonprofit Management degree. Update: They have done a TON of renovation, from academic buildings to the new and improved rec center/gym, and dorms. ...As for the school, they are in the process of doing a ton of renovating and I love the small, homey campus. It's nice. There are some robberies outside the gates, and you will be notified by the PIRATE ALERT system. I honestly enjoy those emails for some reason... most of them end up being false reports. Seton Hall is only safe for those who drive in and drive out. Students who commute via NJ Transit or live in the nearby dorms are exposed to danger day and night. I still get about 2 emails per week because people keep getting robbed at gunpoint. Seton Hall is also very expensive. I am now a slave to Sallie Mae and NJ Class. read more

I miss seeing Father John everyday. I'd come back to see him. On a serious note. Seton Hall is a D1 school - so hit up those chances to see free sports. Don't forget basketball - $10 student tickets. Get involved in whatever interests you. You can take it seriously and still have fun! Seton Hall became my home. "Come home to the hall" is not just a saying. The food can get sucky after a while, watch out for meatless Friday's during Lent, and don't forget there is a theater in the university center behind the help desk! I graduated from Seton Hall years ago and the school never did one thing to help me get a job. When I graduated, they technically had a Career Center, but it was run by students who have never had a job or career and they had no actual job listings that you could look through. You were supposed to load your resume in their database and then wait to see if anyone contacted you. No one ever contacted me for a job. Over the years I have tried to use the Career Center. However, almost all of their jobs are entry-level teaching positions. I did not see one job listed through their Career Center that paid a salary you could actually live off of and buy a house with or a new car. As an Alumnus of the school, the ONLY time Seton Hall contacts me is to ask for money. The bottom line is that they never really do anything to help you get a job, but then they ask you for money. Today the school costs around $60,000 a year and about $240,000 for a Bachelor's degree, which I think is outrageous considering Seton Hall is not even a first-tier school and it is not respected by anyone. Let me also tell you that I have never had one interview where the employer said they called me in for an interview because I went to Seton Hall. read more

Both of my kids graduated from Seton Hall. It was a bit of a struggle for me paying for seven consecutive years back to back.At the end of the day I was very lucky and proud that my daughter was able to graduate in three years. I want to share the experience she had with Seton Hall after she graduated. She graduated with a PR major and was able to find a nice job by helping out cancer patients with a non profit organization. She wanted to give back to Seton Hall, she was able to offer internships to Seton Hall students. Both of my kids were invited back to Seton Hall by to share their working experience with other students. Recently she decided to get her Masters and of course being a Pirate the school of choice was Seton hall again. She applied and got excepted at the same time she applied for 19 scholarship that they offer. She recently got a letter from seton hall saying that she doesn't qualify for a single dollar. Let's face it we are the minority's. She comes from a Italian American white family, I own my own home and I might be considered middle class these days. I didn't graduate high school because I needed to work during my teens. I can tell you that most people would agree that I'm the minority's. The sad part is that any other race would of qualified. So please tell me who is the minority! The sad part is that other colleges offered to help. Over the past few years we had 8 family and friends that send their kids to Seton Hall because we always promoted your school. I manage a automobile dealership and deal with 55 to 70 customer per day. I always promoted your school because of the Pirate basketball banners in my office, well guess what ! You're done. Please stop sending me and my kid letters seeking donations. It's a sad story and I'm hoping that it doesn't happen to anyone else. I have been calling for 3 weeks now to obtain my transcripts from Seton Hall University. I have not received one straight answer as to why my transcripts are being held other than that I "owe money" Not a single person I have spoken with has been able to tell me where the bill is coming from. I have been sent to 3 different departments all telling me they DONT KNOW where the hold is coming from. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! I am trying to continue my education and I have been receiving ZERO cooperation from Seton Hall University. Seton Hall claims to focus on 'academic and ethical development.' while also claiming you will be 'challenged by outstanding faculty, an evolving technologically advanced setting and values-centered curricula.' I find this to be erroneous as I have now left 3 telephone messages for Miss Sandra Gibbs who has yet to return my calls. They have shown NO concern for a person who is trying to further their education. Since I am now 2 weeks away from the courses I need to sign up for, and have still been ignored by Seton Hall University I am assuming I will not be able to continue my education as planned. I am very dissappointed with the lack of response from Seton Hall and the overall chaos that has consumed what should have been a simple request for transcripts. My only option now is to seek legal recourse as the University has chosen to ignore the situation rather than rectify it. read more

I make the same kind of money that I would make with a high school diploma. The school now charges $50,000 a year (room, board and tuition) and there is no way that a bachelor's degree from Seton Hall is worth $200,000. You'll have an $1,800 a month student loan payment for the next 30 years if you go to this school and cannot pay the tuition yourself. The career center is pathetic and does not do anything or very little to help you find a job. There are better jobs listed on careerbuilder. This school does not have any inside connections at businesses or government to help you land a job. This school is a complete waste of time and money.
