We stayed at 7 Urban Suites Prado for a long weekend when we first came to Marseille. It's a short two block walk away from the Perier metro station, and feels a bit removed from the city center (because it is). It takes about 45 minutes to walk to the Vieux Port and the center of the city from here. You pass the hotel Ibis and another hotel on your way. It's by a big park which is fun and full of Marseillais rather than tourists.
We unexpectedly had a mini kitchen in our room! Also the A/C was broken for our entire stay, though the receptionist kept saying that they would get it fixed. So that sucked. But the street wasn't too loud and it was OK to leave your window open which helped most of them time (not all of the time). The staff were friendly and competent, and when I called down to ask how to use the range they sent a housekeeper by to show me (it's very unintuitive).
Again the king bed was two twin beds pushed together with a sheet holding them in place, so there was definitely some seam action.
The shower was confusing and difficult. Turn on the water first, then turn it off, and turn it on again to get good pressure instead of dripping.
But hey, it's eco-friendly and reasonably priced, so why not? If you like walking it's really not bad being so far from the city center. And you're right by the Prado market, which runs every day but Sundays. read more
