Entry was $18, which as a student, I thought was quite pricey. After walking up a red-carpeted staircase with faux gold banisters, I was greeted by a girl dancing on a tabletop with only a bra and underwear on. I didn't know where to look - it seemed so strange to be in a room, in public, with a half-naked person. Walking onwards into the Playroom I was confronted by ten or so girls also scantily clad who were casually walking around. One was on a raised platform pole dancing. I sat, extremely self-consciously on a bar stool in the corner and took a look around the room. As I did, I noticed that one: I was the only female patron in the room, and two: almost every male was over the age of thirty and were taking turns to check me out. 'I don't work here' I wanted to yell, but realising that might serve to make me stand out even more, I pulled my coat tighter and headed over to the bar for a drink instead. The drinks were also quite expensive with basics and imported beer priced at $9.80 and local beer and wine $8.80. There are two bars, one in the Playroom and one in the Poolroom. The Poolroom is the place that the repetitive fuzzy announcements are always directing patrons to. In this room there are three Pool tables as the name suggests, but the main attraction are the special show girls who perform here every fifteen minutes or so. Their acts comprise of strip tease, pole dancing, washing themselves in soapy water and getting patrons sitting next to the stage to rub their nipples with ice - not exactly my thing but my male friends had a great time. It gets most crowded in this room on Saturday nights between twelve midnight and three am. If you want to get a seat for this time period you might want to get there pretty early. The only thing I didn't like about this venue was that the shows were very repetitive. Sure, the themes changed from Burlesque to Schoolgirl, Dominatrix to Miss USA but the dance moves and routines stayed almost exactly the same from one to the next. I don't doubt the difficulty of the routines but it would have been nice if each girl had presented something even slightly different. Lap dances and time in a semi-private room are available at $20 for fifteen minutes and $50 for thirty minutes. As the walls are glass from the hip up for the more private sessions, managers aren't always sticking their heads in to check on the girls, which is pretty good for the patrons. The girls that walk around the floor will approach patrons to ask if they would like a dance - guys who look nervous seem to attract their attention pretty quickly and they can be persuasive! There is a strict no touching policy that means not only no touching the dancers but no displays of affection more overt than handholding between patrons. I found this quite bizarre but it was strictly enforced by the one or two bouncers that are always floating around each room. Overall the venue was pretty clean - except for the toilets. The chairs were comfy, the décor was almost elegant and the staff were pretty friendly. This is a place I would definitely recommend. Despite my initial discomfort I soon got used to the bizarre environment and had a lot of fun - an awesome place for a girls night out or a wild night with the boys.

But then I heard, "I assume you're looking for clitoral?" Turned around, and the shop assistant (looked young and bookish, so I hadn't engaged when I walked in to save him the embarrassment) was talking to me. "Uh, yeah." Caleb (shop assistant) came to life with the opportunity to help. I told him what I liked, what I was looking for, what I usually bought, and my constraints (primarily, nothing that plugs in because I can't take that home!). He pulled a few items for me and let me feel all of them. He was really knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and definitely made me feel at ease during my shopping. I made my selection and then was on my way back home. I noticed when I got home, the receipt says City Central Books - Swanston Street at the top. That made me chuckle. Also there are 2 reviews that have been filtered, and they both mention a discreet side entrance. Thank you guys!
