Came here for lunch and it was pretty quiet but the chef was very welcoming and we were quickly seated. The decor and aesthetic are pretty casual and we didn't need a reservation. We ordered some of the tacos to share (they have 4-5 per serve) and I honestly think that these are pretty good for Mexican food on the Netherlands. The tortillas were freshly made and soft, and the mole chicken was flavorful. The downside was the carne asada was a bit tough but still tasty and came with some fresh guacamole. Overall since this place is local to me and the service was so friendly, I'd definitely come back and make this my go to for Mexican in my neighborhood. read more

Cool, hole in the wall place we picked from the reviews and the menu choices. Right off the bat it had an authentic vibe. wood floors, mexican inspired furniture and interesting decor. Service was prompt and we started off with house margaritas. They were tasty, sorry I forgot to get a picture, we are from Texas, so know good margaritas and tex-mex, these were on par with what we are used to. We also had their chips and salsa, which was good and better than expected as we have very high standards. Our friends arrived and we talked awhile before actually ordering. The place filled up fairly quickly but never got too loud for conversation. My wife and I shared the tacos carnitas our friends had the chicken nachos and a chicken burrito. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. Our tacos were flavorful, tasty and a good portion size. The only drawback, was not enough to deduct a star, was that the pico de gallo was wet enough that the tacos were resting in a shallow soup. Still they were good so no big deal. If you are from Texas and craving Mexican food, this is the place to go, 5 star service and ambience, reasonable prices, and 4.5 star food (so 5 star overall). This place reminds me of every good, cozy hole-in-the-wall place I would find back home in New York. Really nice vibe, great food, good music, and friendly staff. Our meal was outstanding. Flavors were on point! Everything had a depth of flavor that tasted homemade and like someone was proud of what they created. (We discovered the chef is originally from Guadalajara, Mexico.) Service was friendly and quick. The kitchen is open to the house and all we could hear was constant chatter and laughter. The chef even stepped out for a minute to say "hallo!" As tourists, we generally want to hang where the locals go. Señor Mustachio is definitely a locals' hangout! Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. I had the vegetarian Enchiladas Verdes with oyster mushrooms, and my wife had the Carne Asada. There was a lot of moaning and eye rolling as we ate! Margaritas were perfect. The guacamole was delicious, but I like mine with a lot more body. This was bordering on a puree. Dessert was delicious. Definitely give the flan a try. Not traditional, but outstanding. Tipping is not common, expected, or even encouraged in most of Europe, so we were a little taken aback when our waitress cheerfully handed me the card reader and said, "And if you want to tip, just enter it here!" (Note to the owner: please tell your servers it's not cool to mention that, even if the guests are American.) Overall, highly recommended--and make a reservation! read more

I went here my first day in the city. The place is quaint yet has a cool vibe. The jefe sauce reminded me of a salsa back in Texas which I love. The owner said it took years to perfect. Cold beers and taco salads with slow braised chicken thighs. What could be better. read more

I think this place was just OK. We were initially greeted by a person who must have been waiting for food but did not work there. I didn't realize this as he was standing at the front talking to the chef, so when I asked if we could sit anywhere (place was empty) he responded rudely which was odd. Not restaurants fault but off putting. We decided to sit outside. They brought salsa and chips, but the salsa was warm and tasted right from then can. We ordered nachos which were OK, but also lukewarm... I ordered beef tacos; they were flavorful. Husband ordered burrito which didn't have much flavor. Overall it was just ok - would not go back. Very nice staff and they actually have sol and dos equis! The food, however, was unfortunately lacking. I got the pulled chicken taco and there was zero flavor... the chips were store bought but the chicken was tender. Very small place as a heads up and they apparently let big dogs in... huge no no for me to have animals inside restaurants... It's also extremely loud when people talk above any normal volume which one table was and appeared to be friends with the staff. I literally couldn't hear my friend right in front of me. read more

We discovered this cool place when one of our group took a spill and fell crossing the street walking to the place we originally has dinner reservation. We went in to request ice and wet cloths and use of a first aid kit to patch up our friend. The nicest guys ever! So helpful and nice that we ended up staying for dinner. The four of us had tacos, burritos and beer. We tried the chicken and beef and both were yummy! Great place they also deliver and offer take out. What a great, hidden gem. Located just a few steps from the main street will give you a taste of real Mexican food here in Amsterdam. We treated their homemade nachos and guacamole( soooo fresh and good) my bf has the chicken wings and judging from how fast he ate them, he enjoyed them a lot. I got pork tacos, which were delicious. The pork was tender & flavorful. My fiancé and I come to Amsterdam often for work so we now try to seek out little hole in the wall restaurants. This little place is so good! We had the beef and chicken tacos. The meat was so tender and the toppings were perfect. The service was excellent and if you're lucky you will get a visit from the owners Chihuahua (who makes the whole experience)!
