The korean pancake was crispy, had the perfect ratio of seafood and pancake mix. The Sundubu was the perfect size with just enough beef and seafood, the side diahes are limited but the kimchi is very tasty and it goes well with all the items we had. The galbi, was way too overcooked, to the point it was a bit tough but it had good seasoning and taste. Service was quick and convenient, finding parking in the mall was a great because we drove a small car otherwise the spots are tight and difficult to get into. Food is very good here. They have food combos that I clude a meat plate and a soondubu. The meat plate isn't big but decent for yourself. I shared with others and packed the leftovers. As for the fish, it was flaky and good, but lazy me felt it was too much work for the little bit of fish for each attempt of removing the flesh from the body. Mom and I used to frequent BCD tofu in Queens before it closed down, and we were craving another Korean tofu place. Cue google search and coming up with SGD Tofu, and finding out it's just a 10 minute drive away. Long story short, we've been coming here regularly for the past couple years. The tofu soup is always fresh and flavorful. Rice comes sizzling in a stone pot and the tofu soup with crispy rice is amazing. I prefer the mushroom tofu soup and we've also gotten the oyster soup, and spice levels are on point. Banchan varies and is so tasty. We've gotten fish cakes, macaroni salad, broccoli and cauliflower, kimchi, among others. Service has always been quick and to the point. No complaints here! Price point is very fair too, for all the food you get and I always leave here really full. Ambiance is simple and cozy. Nothing fancy but we come here for the food and the service. Food: This restaurant's menu reminds me of BCD Tofu House. They have appetizers, tofu stews, and main dishes as well as combo meals that include a tofu soup and main dish. There are a variety of tofu stews including beef, seafood, mushroom, assorted, perilla, and many more; tofu stew spice levels can be customized. Tofu stews come with either rice (served in a hot stone bowl), ramen, or noodles as well as a raw egg to crack into it. Main dishes include spicy pork, spicy squid, galbi, mackerel, etc. The tofu stew was excellent. The tofu is soft and silky. I would highly recommend any of the tofu stews. My favorite tofu stew in NYC is at BCD Tofu House, but I would say this restaurant has the second best I've had in NYC. The seafood pancake was good but is better at BCD where it's crispier and more flavorful. Ban chan was average - peanuts, marinated spinach, mac salad, kimchi, and spicy peppers. The spicy pork dish was just okay; I would skip ordering this one. The mackerel was moist and well made. Overall, the food is good here, but certain dishes are better than others. Service: Service was average. Food comes out quickly, and the ban chan is served shortly after you order. Staff don't come around to see if you need anything once you've ordered and your food has been served. If you need anything, you need to try to get someone's attention to ask for it. Ambiance: Seating is spacious and comfortable. They have tables that can accommodate small and large groups. The place does get packed during peak meal times, and there can be a wait. The flavor was great! Tons of tofu and roe - haven't seen other tofu places pull this off. Yum! The LA Galbi was great. Lots of meat! The marinade was a touch sweet and the meat was cooked well The black sesame mushroom tofu stew - this was great. There was no meat and yet the mushroom was delicious! We had this non spicy and it was bomb Also tried the stone pot bibimbap - portion was small but it was good! Delicious Soondubu!!!! For those who miss BCD, look no further!! I tried their fried yellow croaker, it I was very crispy on the outside and nice and tender on the inside. Absolutely delish!! The pork tofu soup has a lot of pork, imo more than what restaurants normally offer which was really nice. The soups are extremely flavorful and when I ask for very spicy the soup truly come out VERY SPICY! You have the option to get soup with rice or with ramen or noodles. The portions are extremely generous. SO GOOD! Store is located in same plaza as H-Mart and shares a parking lot. The lot is often full but plenty people are coming and going so you won't wait too long for a spot. Prices are reasonable and food is delicious. Service is also attentive but not overbearing. Unfortunate, but it's the same situation for every restaurant nowadays. They still give plenty of banchans and I always appreciate that they are willing to refill as much as we want. I always love to get their seafood soondubu and galbi combo; you can never go wrong with it. The galbi is super tender and flavorful and the dish comes with a good number of pieces. I was a frequent flyer at BCD and I was hoping and praying SGD Tofu House & BBQ was going to as good but unfortunately it was not. I ordered the same tofu soup (oyster) so I could compare. I enjoyed the option of adding ramen to my dish but I must say that the flavor just wasn't there. The soup felt 'water-downed' and there were only 4 pieces of oysters in my soup. I was very disappointed to say the least. We ordered the fried dumplings, oyster soondubu ramen, pork bulgogi and soondubu combo and tonkatsu. Dumplings, very crunchy and delish. The pork bulgogi lacked flavor and was too sweet. My son enjoyed the tonkatsu and said the pork tasted really good. The service was very lacking. I requested ice water for my son three separate times before it was actually brought to the table. And to get a refill was another waiting game. I am from LI area, and just happened to be in the city. So my family wanted to try this place for the first time. The service and staffs are very nice, but the food taste good enough. But the portions with that kind of price are super not worthy! The seafood pancake is 20 bucks but soggy, and we didn't finish it, so we took it home and I found plastic wraps in it! My husband's seafood tofu soup, tastes ok but the shrimps are not fresh! When I tried to peeled the shrimps for my kids, they are like purée. My Japchae was a very small portion (one person size) and it costed me OVER $20, next door Korean market only costs $9. My family definitely not coming to this place again. My friend RAVED about the dubokki (from the old location) but it was just alright. Similar to the ones you can get frozen from hmart. I got the combination - soondubu and kalbi. The seafood soondubu was also alright. I didn't like that all the tofu was already in small pieces and broken up. The only difference between the seafood one and the seafood&beef is ONE shrimp. I was a bit surprised to find that SGD reopened after the previous location changed ownership to Ziggle, so we decided to stop by for dinner. My boyfriend and I got our usual - seafood & beef (hot) for me, and beef (mild) for him. I opted for the noodles this time around. SGD's soondubu always hits the spot. My boyfriend's was a little off though, but it may be due to the spice level. Mild was pretty much non spicy, and we're used to the regular spice level. For first timers, I definitely recommend getting at least the regular spicy. 4 banchan options were available - pickled cucumbers, kimchi, seasoned beansprouts, and pickled radish. I got the Pork Bulgolgi which was flavored well, and had a good amount of meat. The Kalbi was pretty good as well, but I felt the flavoring wasn't the best. After the nearest BCD Tofu House closed down, I was in the search for a replacement and I think SGD Tofu House is the closest thing to it! SGD is a bit more Korean-style in that, the workers give mom and pops vibes and you have to call them out loud to grab their attention (service isn't on par as BCD). The banchan (side dishes) are all really good just like BCD (except they don't provide the signature fish). And the soondubu (soft tofu soup) is piping hot, delicious, and flavorful with the familiar MSG taste like BCD's. I would say though that SGD's soup is more deeply flavored and doesn't give as clean a taste like BCD. I got the Spicy Kimchi Beef Soodubu and the spice level was perfect for me -spicy but tolerable (but I have a high spice tolerance). The nurungi (scorched rice) at the end really hits the spot though like BCD, wow! Overall, very impressed with this restaurant and will definitely be back when I crave soondubu :) read more

If you have had BCD tofu house, I'd say SGD is comparably more flavorful for their tofu stews. The broth is richer in flavor and bolder. You can choose what pairing you'd like with your soondobu such as rice, ramen or noodles. Eating here is so comforting and you can't go wrong with ordering any of their tofu stews for that is this restaurant's signature/speciality. My friend and I ordered beef soondobu noodles and seafood beef soondobu ramen. The portion is the perfect size and quite filling. I only deducted one star for the lack of attention to service. I think the servers could be friendlier but they did not rush us to finish. This restaurant is clean. Has a great layout. There are even private rooms for seating for larger parties. The restrooms are single stalls and clean. I will most likely return here for my soondobu cravings. read more

A lot of restaurants are like that. When we asked for more side dishes to eat with our meal. The waiter was already on his way to give us, then I saw an older female waitress took them away from him. When we asked again from that older female waitress she said no to us. Then the female owner (I think she is) took away the side dishes when the 2nd waiter was bringing us the sides and sje said they ran out. BS!! read more
