Top Rate Service & Food! Went their last night as a family of 10 and boated up. I was worried as we didn't call ahead for a table for 10, but they saw us on the boat dock, counted heads, and had the table ready by the time we had made it up to the restaurant. In my 24 years of living on Lake Travis, I have never had that level of service so kudos to just that. Nick the waiter was excellent and got all of the orders right and drinks, apps and dinners out very fast. Good with dealing with kids (as 4 of us are 16 or younger) and as good of service as I would expect at a high end restaurant at The Domain. Food was excellent as well. We were huge fans of the former restaurant that occupied this building as they would allow us to bring our dogs (as they are frequently on the boat with us). I was so pleased to find out now that Shack 512 now allows dogs (even though they still have a sign in the front that says they don't). Sadly we are moving away from Lake Travis in a few weeks, but we will come back to Shack 512 for the great service & food as we are huge fans now! read more

Very Disappointing. 1. Service- We went arrived a 4PM so the it wasn't busy yet. The place looked really nice, great view. Hostess seated us right away and the waiter got us our drinks and took our appetizer order. After that our server went MIA. We had to go ask another server to find our waiter so we could order dinner and get more drinks. After we finished eating and got the check, we again had to ask another waiter for help. 2. Food - We ordered the 3s Company appetizer, it was the best part of the meal. For dinner we ordered Steak Kabob, Sunset Burger, and Cheeseburger. All were very overcooked and dried out. I could barley eat mine, and my son took one bite a put the rest in a to-go box. When you pay $13 for a burger you expect a really good burger. This was less than mediocre. 3. Dogs - There is sign at the entrance that clearly states dogs were not permitted. Halfway through our meal in walks someone with their dog. An the hostess offers to bring the dog water. So apparently the sign at the front means nothing. The dog kept sniffing around our feet for food, and when a girl petted the dog, you could see the dog hair fly into the air. Yuck. If you have a policy, enforce it. Please note, this was not a service animal. I was really hoping this would have been a better experience. We live in Cedar Park and really looked forward to a new restaurant on the lake. Don't know if we will try it again for dinner, but it might be okay for drinks and appetizers. read more

So I stumbled upon this amazing place by happen chance doing a simple search while leaving Lake Travis. All I can say is WOW! Amazing vibe here not to mention the views of the water. The food here is so good and tender. I enjoyed the steak kabobs. Brandon and Greg along with Taylor provided unbelievable service. Update-- The team at Shack 512 redeemed themselves with flying colors. After the experience below i was contacted by the owner and GM and they explained the issues they had that evening. Today, Sunday May 28, we gave them a shot at redemption with a party of 17 people on a rainy Sunday evening. The staff, food and entire experience was top notch. Watching the storm roll through from the restaurant made us especially glad to be there. Great experience and it won't be our last. Previous 1 star review from an evening they had a staffing issue. --- Love this place but tonight they had an issue. This was our 3rd weekend in a row and it's never been this bad. Feel bad for the waitstaff they were hustling and friendly (even comped a couple Rita's and beer) but the kitchen was in the weeds tonight. read more

I told myself I HAD to review this place. Even on a cold, rainy day the experience at Shack 512 was amazing and this is coming from someone who hates the cold. The big propane heaters made it nice and cozy! There is honestly nothing I can say was wrong or could've been better. I could try to explain how delicious the pulled pork nachos were or how my mouth is watering thinking about the Chicken Alfredo but my words seriously couldn't do the food here justice! The hospitality was a plus. They all work as a team and are very attentive. We ended our meal with the S'mores! They came served on a nice wooden platter, perfectly placed with a personal fire. Let's just say I can't wait to go back and order more!! It won't be long until we meet again... read more

Shack 512 was amazing. My girlfriend and I went on a Thursday night and the wait was only about 30 minutes. Once seated, we were helped very quickly and all our food came out quickly as well! 5 minutes before sunset they opened the garage doors and it looked amazing from the patio!! Great food and drinks. Water front atmosphere was great. Loved that we could take home the cups that we were served. (Still use them). We have been a few times, Once by car, and others by boat. Car parking can be a bit tough, so be aware. Boat access is great. We will return, probably many more times. read more

We stopped here to get some food and shelter right before the storm rolled in. We had a great time on the lake and wanted something to fill our tummies on the long drive home. Set up is nice, bathroom were really clean which I appreciate especially being close to the lake front. Service was sub-par, nothing spectacular. My friends shared a plate after the waiter assured them that it was a really really big portion, it was not lol. Her husband ordered another after that. My husband ordered the burger, he enjoyed it. I ordered the salmon with aioli sauce ($3 upcharge btw). It didn't come with my plate, I had to gently remind the waiter for the aioli sauce I ordered. The pasta side was good. For some reason, I started to eat the salmon last on my plate... only to find that the salmon was not cooked all the way through. Don't get me wrong, I throughly enjoy raw fish but the color did not look or sit right with me. They were nice enough to take it of our bill, but I wasn't pleased by this experience. 3 stars for the service. Our waitress went above and beyond to make things right! Friends recommended Shack 512. Food cost too much for being sub par! Fish and Chips were good...3 pieces of fish the size of a fried zucchini stick though. Steak Kabob over cooked and chewy! You get a choice of 2 sides out of 6. it wasn't busy and they were out of Broccoli and Garlic Mashed Potatoes. Now choose from canned corn with jalapeños, French fries, baked small potatoes (could have made garlic mashed potatoes) or pickled cucumber and I hate cucumbers! I don't leave negative reviews unless they are warranted! Drinks were watered down...terrible! Our waitress was amazing though and told the bartender and brought another drink...thank you! Ordered the S'Mores platter for my granddaughter...what a joke! $17 for one Hershey bar unwrapped, 8 marshmallows and it was supposed to have strawberries On the platter too but they were out of strawberries, 6 whole graham crackers halved and a Sterno to get a flame to roast marshmallows! It was soooooooo windy the Sterno wouldn't stay lit. Moved to a different table and that didn't work. 20 min later the waitress brings a different Sterno can and lights it and only worked for one marshmallow so the waitress brings a torch and torches the marshmallows hahahaha! Pretty crappy to the point that no second visit is needed! It wasn't the waitresses fault so we gave her a very good tip! read more

I went here last night. The food was pretty good and the view is awesome. I also liked that the seating was covered (it looked like it might rain last night) but open air. I had their all american burger and really enjoyed the seasoning they use. The service was the only downfall that I experienced. Lots of waiting for condiments, water refills, and my check. I don't know what's going on there with how they're seating families, but it isn't right. Firstly, whatever wait time they give you as an estimate, double or triple it. They need to give much better estimates. Secondly, several families that arrived after us were being seated. Some other families were noticing and other families complained for themselves and on our behalf as well. Their explanation was that that's just what the process is, that some people come sign, leave and return later as well. That certainly might be true for a few families, but even families we witnessed sign in after us were being seated, and the wait times are highly misleading anyway. My family were suspicious of racism, but what I think was actually happening is that they were seating people based off exact party size and table size. We were a party of four. A party of five that showed up later got called up before us. They can certainly fit four people at a table for five, and the families that are there first should be seated first, but I think they're trying to optimize their tables too strictly with party sizes such that it creates an environment of unfairness. We kept our cool but we left rather upset after having waiting over an hour. We won't feel comfortable returning. read more

Ok, just got back from Nik's and here's my honest feedback. The positives: location is awesome, the facilities are great, the walkway down is charming, and the servers were nice. Overall a good experience. I love that this is a spot on the lake that's a little more intimate and closer to me than the Oasis. In between: the fried shrimp and guac were pretty good. The negatives: the menu needs a serious overhaul. Find the head chef, if there is one, and fire them. No restaurant outside of fast food should be featuring chicken strips. This place serves a confused mix of American, Mexican, and Italian, and the overarching theme is fried. The fries were like a bag of ore ida freezer bought fries that were reheated poorly. I think a focus on tacos and sliders could be successful. Or seafood. Or pizza even. There are a lot of directions you could go here. But you need to focus and hire a head chef that's an actual chef. Someone that is willing to cut up fresh ingredients and get imaginative with the menu. As it is, the food reminds me of a knock off Oasis, which is widely heralded as "the food is just ok, but the view is great." You can do better. I feel like there's a handful of people in back with fryers and microwaves. The bar here could be HUGE. Who doesn't want drinks by the lake? Focus on that more. The margaritas were good. My wife ordered some wine, then it came in a teeny tiny pour with flies in it. Then it took ten minutes to get another glass because for some reason the staff didn't prioritize pouring another. Nik's, you have so much potential. And we had a good experience. But you are sitting on a gold mine and can do better if you focus on food and really staff up the bar. I hope I don't see this place on Kitchen Nightmares one day. read more

We came to Shack 512 with friends after a day of boating. We have been boat owners on Lake Travis for almost 15 years. We have seen a lot of restaurants come and go and this one by far is our favorite! The service was excellent, the manger (Nathan) came to check on us a few times. All the food and drinks came out in a timely fashion. For appetizers we had Spicy (fried) green beans( very tasty) , bacon wrapped shrimp (excellent) , queso blanco (yummy) and the guacamole (delicious). The kids meals were also reasonable priced ($6 including drink) . One of the favorites at the table was the s'mores, such a clever idea. The adults loved the chocolate and white chocolate cheesecakes, not a crumb was left. Great experience, beautiful view, worth the boat ride and the drive! read more

Skip The Oasis with their overpriced horrible food and take the extra effort to drive into Volente and go to Shack 512. They make their food from scratch. We've yet to have a bad meal here. Be prepared for LARGE portions. You definitely do not go home hungry. My husband and I made that mistake the first time. We got the pulled pork nachos as the appetizer and it was massive. It could easily feed four. We shared the pimiento cheese burger and I barely finished that from being too full. The second time my husband had the steak kabobs and I the chicken tenders. Both were excellent. My only complaint is though all the sides are good, they're mostly starches. I wish they offered steamed broccoli, a side salad or asparagus. So, if that's the only complaint I have, I'd say that's pretty good. I forgot to mention the atmosphere. Nice lake and marina view. The sunset view is nice too. Every seat has a good view. They even have a little seating/lounging area with comfortable patio furniture. It's also an adventure getting from the parking area to the restaurant. You can either take the nature trail with lots and lots of rocky steps (working off those calories ahead of time), or take a cute pontoon boat thingy on a slow moving rail. It's definitely unique.
