Just stopped here by chance. The bar seating was ok. Joe Joe the bartender could not have been nicer. Beer selection was good. Very cold! The onion rings were the best I have ever had. Why I mention first. The crab cake was not super thick so you could actually make a sandwich out of it. The fig and goat cheese flat bred was with real figs . It could have been toasted longer. The server then dropped off the check (no compensation for their error) and left. We then had to wait another 10 minutes before they came back to get the check. They weren't even very busy. Staff is friendly. Seating is limited. We got there around 130 by 330 place was filling up. Very nice chill atmosphere inside. They have an outdoor seating section as well. We opted to sit at the bar. Bar area is clean. Doesn't smell like stale old beer. First round we had Bloody Mary for the wife and shagger sipper for me. Both drinks were on the money. Second round I opted for a four sisters old fashion and local draft the wife had a Moscow mule. Once again great. We had fried pickles for app. Let me say this all ingredients and food at this place is fresh. We didn't get the frozen pickles most places serve. These were thinly sliced fresh pickles with an obvious homemade breading. Delicious. Entree we shared the fish and chips. The fish was outstanding. The breading was outstanding. I was a little hesitant about trying this place given the bad reviews I read. I'm glad I didn't let those stop us. The only negative was the parking and it was practically nonexistent. We ended up parking at a business nearby that had closed for the day. That's the reason for the 4 and not 5 stars. The place was busy but we were seated without a wait. Ordered a burger and fries and have to say it was one of the best burgers I've eaten. It was cooked perfectly and came out super fast. Our waitress (I think her name was Paris) was great. Shagger Jacks is a must for our family every time we visit Oak Island! My absolute favorite thing on the menu is the Louisiana crawfish flatbread! It is such a unique dish I've never seen on any other menu. A flatbread topped with Andouille sausage, crawfish tail, white cheddar, cajun spice blend, and zesty garlic cream sauce. It is completely drool worthy and I dieeeeee for this meal! Another favorite of ours is the key lime pie! All their desserts are homemade too! They do get super busy especially on the weekends but wait staff is always attentive and do their best to serve promptly. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Oak Island. I discovered this gem on one of my first visits to the island and try to eat here at least once every time I come back. They have a great brunch, lunch, and dinner menu. I generally like to eat on their big family style picnic table on their patio by the Tiki Bar. This time due to COVID, we placed a to-go order for dinner via the 'Swipeby" app as requested on their website. It was easy to use, and they brought our order directly to our car. I could not wait to get home and start eating! For appetizers, we ordered the Jack's Chicken Dip (grilled chicken with a special blend of cheese & spices. served with tortilla chips). The dip is very creamy and has a slight spiciness which makes for a great taste combination. They always give you plenty of chips so you can enjoy every bite of dip on a chip as intended. We also ordered one soft taco special (sadly can't remember exactly what fish and toppings it was) that came with island rice and beans. I generally enjoy their tacos as they are unique, but I will say $7 is a bit much for a single taco.l and as I can't remember this one guess it wasn't memorable. My favorite tonight was the Crawfish flatbread. It had great spice, lots of crawfish and bacon pieces adding a great salty quality, cheese was perfectly melty, and the flatbread itself was the optimal combination of soft and crunchy. Yum! As far as a main entrée we shared the Scallops with two sides. Their smoked gouda potatoes are to die for. This is a must order side item choice. The flavor is amazing and there is so much creamy gouda goodness. We also got the grilled vegetable medley, tasty on their own but were only enhanced by being in the same cheesy gouda deliciousness as the potatoes. The scallops themselves were a nice size and cooked properly as well. After all this food, my stomach was very full as was my heart. It wouldn't be a trip to OKI for me without Shagger Jacks. Look forward to my next trip when I can hopefully comfortably eat out on that patio again and take in the nice ocean breeze with my delicious food! read more

Loved this place! Came highly recommended from a friend and we were not disappointed. Staff was very friendly and service was quick. We got the firecracker shrimp and fried green tomatoes for an appetizer and both were excellent. I ordered the Island Bowl (side note: the actual menu was slightly different than the ones we found on Yelp/their website) with shrimp. The bowl was OK, it had nice flavor but could have used a little more sauce. Next time I'll order the shrimp and grits (my brother got that and it was AWESOME) or the fish/shrimp tacos looked amazing as well.
