Nothing stood out except maybe the indoor and outdoor seating, which was nice enough while I tried not to get irritated by the one way car entrance. Its been a while since I ve visited this restaraunt. On the internet I saw the promo of korean bbq and I was excited. I was familiar with sweet and savoury unagi sauce, kimchi, samjang etc. from Korean cuisine. Non of that was in the chicken bites or burger - instead I got a tons of salt and tasteless food. Smoky BBQ Burger & Deep-Fried Pickles Review I've passed by Shake Shack more times than I can count, but I usually only stopped in when they were featuring a wild shake like Caramel Apple or one of their seasonal specials. Today I finally decided to see what their food was all about, and I'm glad I did. I ordered their Smoky Classic BBQ Burger, double patty, this thing is stacked. The burger's got a thick, juicy char on the beef, melty American cheese, crispy onions, smoky sweet BBQ sauce, and thick-cut pickles that play off the sweetness perfectly. The toasted potato bun pulls it all together. My only (very minor) complaint? The bacon could've used just a touch more crispiness. But honestly, it didn't take away from the overall bite. Still a top-tier burger. On the side, I grabbed the deep-fried pickles. Golden brown, perfectly seasoned, and fried just right. Not too hot, not too cold. These were honestly some of the best I've had in a while, especially dunked in the ranch. What really stood out today though was the service. Jose was awesome. Friendly, super knowledgeable, and genuinely seemed to love being there. He helped me figure out what to order, gave me the rundown on the BBQ specials, and even brought the tray over to my table when the food was ready. Great guy, great vibe. Service is pretty average--not bad though. The burger was juicy and good ratio of meat-to-bun. The patty is perfect, and the bun is soft. The cheese gives it an umami kick, and the lettuce gives a minimal crunch. Ambiance is nice, I like how it is a good-sized dining area. There are a few TVs around the dining area. Just a delightful yummy treat from the minute we walked in the door. We brought our going on 93 year old friend as we have been raving about smash burgers, she had never had one. From the moment we got there we were treated like friends by Laya who make the entire experience amazing. She even recommended a shake which I would not have ordered the chocolate and it was sensational. Once we ordered we sat outside and she brought the food with a song in her heart and a joyful disposition. I came here for one purpose and purpose only. The limited time poppy sugar, cookie cookie shake. And I got to say it's a total gem. I like to eat the cotton candy off the top first because it could melt into the shake if you wait too long. It taste like a sugar cookie and is creamy and sweet. And I got to say the best way to order is through the app. I was a little adverse to the app thing as I've got plenty of apps installed on my phone. But any frequent visitor to Shake Shack should know that the app is the way to go. The burgers are kind of small and pricey. But man are they delicious. I needed lunch after my three-hour drive, so I drove around the area and stumbled across this Shake Shack Topanga location. There was no one staffing the front counter, so I went over to the self-serve kiosks to place my order. This is the first time I have eaten in a restaurant with zero human interaction. There was not so much as a hello when I walked in the door, and I did not hate it. I placed and paid for my order at the kiosk and took my number to a table to wait for my food. I was up washing my hands in the restroom when the food was delivered to the table. My order was a Double ShackBurger and French Fries. The burger was perfect, but the fries were a bit overcooked. This location is hard to find if you're not coming from the right direction so beware when you get off the 101 freeway. It's located across the topanga mall/AMC where we're going next for our movie. Small parking lot that's one way direction only. Disclaimer: I think Vegas shake shack is the best and always compare to that location. My go to burger is the Shack Stack which was 4.5/5. The mushroom wasn't as crispy as Vegas so a bit soggy. Harder to bite off bc of that but taste was still good. I added pickles so it added the crunch. I find it's always a struggle to find healthy options when I'm at a mall. Luckily, Westfiled Topanga Mall does have a few restaurants to choose from. With that said, I was very curious to see how Shake Shack's 'Shroom Burger rose to the healthy and tasty challenge. The 'Shroom Burger is a fried portobello mushroom, filled with muenster and cheddar cheese, and topped with lettuce, tomato, and ShackSauce. The mushroom had a good crunch, and very flavorful, the texture was not slimy, and the flavor was enhanced by the smokiness of the two kinds of cheese. The portobello was hot, and melty cheese flavorful. The batter was perfectly seasoned and crispy. It's fried rather than grilled or baked, loaded with gooey cheese in every bit. I think it may have more cheese than a regular cheeseburger! This may not be the healthiest sandwich at 550 Cals, but it does taste good, and it's the only vegetarian option on the menu. I also ordered French fries, with a side of cheese and a cookie and cream milkshake as dessert, both were nothing to write home to mom about. I had never been to a Shake Shack location prior to this visit at the Topanga Mall, and I have to say I found it underwhelming. We did come during a peak, as there was a line, so we opted to use the self-ordering system they have adjacent to where the cashiers take orders. For fast food it wasn't all that fast - it was about a 10 -15 minute wait after we finished ordering. And while I enjoyed my order of the chicken bites, and fries, my boyfriend's cheeseburger didn't taste all that different from McDonald's.
