One of my go-to Shake Shacks being in the UWS neighborhood. This was a review specific my visit last Thursday and really because of the limited edition Black Truffle Burger. :) Love that you get greeted upon entering and that Covid-19 protocols are in place. Temperature checks prior to getting in and ordering via kiosks, reduced to two 2 working kiosks to encourage social distancing. Ordered to go for me and my hubby to enjoy at home. In typical Shake Shack process, I got the text saying the food is ready so I head to the pickup counter but 20 mins after, our food hasn't come out yet. After asking someone, they had to look for my order and took another 10 mins til they located it. Of course that explains why the food wasn't hot anymore. :( Plus the fries were charged but wasn't included in the order. Giving 4 stars still because the Black Truffle Burger was good. I have a great idea for you....try the Truffle Burger since you love all sorts o mushrooms on a Sunday at a time when Shake Shack should be very busy with Sunday lunch crowd, but is strangely almost empty .....?? (I actually wondered why). So you order easily and about 10 minutes later, a hamburger is dumped on a tray in a tiny little bag, falling over, the hamburger and its contents all falling around so that it is totally unappetizing. You take it to a table -- they do offer to take it for you, I have no idea why -- and you find that it is cooked but barely warm, there is no hint of anything truffle-like and it is presented as a messy "thing" that is hardly appetizing. For this, you are really lucky, you get to pay $11 !! My only question is ....why after a dismal experience several years ago, I even considered going back...just a sucker for truffles -- not that there appeared to be anything like a truffle -- I guess. read more

Our Yelp Crew consisted of Robert C. and his wife Janeen when we headed north on Columbus Avenue today with me as guide. Naturally it was close to my eating time so I started to suggest places. Robert had a list. It's easier to spot something and obtain a consensus for lunch. I took the lead. I spotted the Shake Shack and saw people eating their hamburgers in the window. They looked so juicy so I stopped and turned to Robert with this as a suggestion. I was surprised to see a smile on his face. Janeen immediately said he wanted to try Shake Shake but it's far from their home. That got me excited. I like to see people get things off their bucket list! I got excited and I'm not much of a burger lover! They open early so it was perfect timing. The employees were smiling and friendly. I felt welcome. Robert asked one nice young lady employee to take a group photo of us. She gladly humored us and even took two. Janeen had Smoke Shack, Robert had Shack Burger and I had a burger with lettuce and cheese. I'm still full. It's a good burger. The bun is soft and fresh. I'm not a huge fan of meat but today this satisfied me. Robert will review their feelings about the food. They weren't as hungry as I was!! East meets West. Wife and I from Silicon Valley, CA met Yelper Marianne W of New York for the 4th time since May 2017, and came here for lunch. Surprised that they were even open for lunch at 10:45am on a Tuesday. There are only two shake shacks in the entire 9 million people San Francisco Bay Area, and here in NYC there are at least 50 listed in Yelp. So when we walked by this place, just had to come inside to try their burgers. Wife ordered the $7.39 smoke shack, me a $5.29 burger, and Marianne the $5.89 cheeseburger. Service is leisurely. I pick up the food when the beeper rings, so no tipping required. The shackburger is a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and shacksauce. Only Marianne defers on the tomato. Next time I will volunteer to eat her tomato. The smokeshack is a cheeseburger with bacon, cherry pepper and shacksauce. Wife didn't finish hers, so I ate it, minus the cheese and hot cherry peppers. Sauce never did arrive. The bacon costs $1.79 as a side addition, but comes standard on the smokeshack. My hamburger comes with lettuce, tomato, pickle and onion. No cheese on my burgers. The bun is fresh and soft, but a bit on the small side between a slider and a full size hamburger. Lots of slices of raw onions just the way I like them, rivaling the "In and Out" hamburgers both in onions and shake shack sauce, which tastes like the special sauce of "In and Out". Decent amount of beef patty, but pricey at $5.29, double the price of an "In and Out" burger. But, hey, it's New York, and there are no "In and Outs" east of Texas. No drinks except for tap water, and no fries. We get out of there with three burgers for $20.22. As we are leaving, I meet up with a lady staffer Sarah, who not only doesn't mind having her picture taken, but smiles in the picture. Would we come here again? We walk Marianne home, and along the way she points out "Good Enough To Eat" and Gabriela's restaurants. Next April or October when we come back to New York, we can meet her there, perhaps with some women's size 7 Hoka One One's for a lady who walks 1500 miles a year. I love shake shack and this meal was no exception. We got off to a bit of a rocky start when I tried to order using a gift card and the person behind the register told me there was a remaining balance on the card instead of a balance due. I saw that there was some confusion and went back to clear it up and pay the remaining balance. Luckily, I did, because otherwise the order wouldn't have been pushed to the kitchen. The wait was about 15 minutes, which was expected during busy lunch hour. If you're just ordering a shack burger from here, you're doing it wrong. You must get the Shack Stack unless you are allergic to dairy. That's what I got this (and every visit). I also got the limited edition, churro shake. I normally make it a habit of ordering each limited-edition shake at least once before they're gone. The churro shake was amazing. Came here during the holiday break to grab lunch. Fortunately I had ordered via the app so by the time I got there, my food was ready for pick up otherwise I would have had to line up for ages. There was a staff at the front door greeting people and handing out menus as they lined up. She was nice enough to walk in and grab my pick up as I had a stroller on me. I ordered the standard burger, fries and nuggets. Can't go wrong really other than having to find a spot to eat it at as the place was way too packed. The Shake Shack has initiated the annoying practice of using terminals to pressure patrons to tip in restaurants where tipping was not considered before. You're a big successful chain. Update: I'm adding back two more stars and updating my review for the Shake Shack located on 79th St in the UWS. After I posted my initial review expressing my frustrations, the folks at Shake Shack contacted me. They kindly apologized and offered me a ten dollar eCard to use at my next visit. I was surprised but really appreciated this kind gesture. I went back today and I'm happy to say the visit went smoothly. I did not use the Shake Shack app but went in person during the lunch peak. I placed my order and only waited about five minutes for my food. The staff at the register had some trouble figuring out how to enter the eCard towards my order and had to ask someone for help. Invest in companies! I have always been Bullish on Shake Shack. It's a Fast Casual chain, which is in-line with Millennial consumer trends. The Millennial generation is even larger than the Baby Boomer generation. Therefore, they will drive the economy on the growth side. I'm Gen X. We are a small generation sandwiched between the two largest generations ever and mean little to the economy on a relative basis. Food's famously good. And that was my experience. Good burger. Good fries. Busy place but they crank out the food.

So how can I say this... Im probably one of the only people in the world who has never had Shake Shack. Let me explain... I don't eat red meat or pork, and they don't do Turkey Burgers. If I'm not mistaken chicken hasn't always been on their menu, if it was I was unaware. So, maybe once many years ago I may have had a Shake but I really can't remember, so let's just say that doesn't count. As of today I'm no longer Shake Shack oblivious! However, since we're being honest I don't think I was missing anything. The wait is too longggg. They seem to prioritize grub hub, uber eats, seamless, & postmates orders over physical customers waiting. While waiting I attempted to gather my condiments and mentioned that they were out of hot sauce the girl behind the register told me to go downstairs or look on the tables. The other young lady had see my facial expressions (I'm working on it) and she got me some hot sauce, TY. As you order they give you buzzers that they never use. So if you don't hear them butcher your name your food sits there open until you inquire. I realize that this all may be a location issue and has nothing to do with the food. The food then... Takeout orders in my opinion, are not packaged in any ideal way at all. Just placed in an open bag and that's it. Open fries, open sandwich, open bag! The fries ($2.99) are actually pretty good and are very well prepared but are small and not worth coming to purchase alone due to size. The Chickn Shack @ $6.89 was subpar. I received a salty mini chicken strip with peeling breading on an over sized bun (sarcasm bc bun is small too mind you). No where close to being worth the almost $7 price tag for a WISHn Shack, because I was wishing for some protein on my sandwich. In a split second I can rattle off more than 5 places with a better mediocre chicken sandwich then this one, but I rather not be rude. Black & White Shake ($5.29) was the highlight. Extremely tasty with great consistency. The one item ordered that was worth the wait and all the hype, everything else... I wast missing much (no FOMO). Maybe if I ate beef then Shake Shack would do it for me but I don't so it doesn't. If I ever do return I will not be be SHACKn, I will only be SHAKEn in the yard! read more

First time having Shake Shack. Keep in mind I'm from sunny California so I'm partial to In n Out. Still came to try Shake Shack because, as one friend puts it, you don't go to NY without trying Shake Shack. In a nutshell, I think Shake Shack is overhyped and In n Out still reigns supreme in my heart. Why? - Shake Shack is expensive. I ordered a SmokeShack (basically a bacon cheeseburger) and a black and white shake (cookies n cream milkshake). My boyfriend and best friend each ordered a cheese fries and a Shack-cago Dog. Our total was between $30-$35. At In n Out, if we ordered 3 cheeseburgers, a milkshake, and two fries, our total would be about $20 (in that range). - There is literally just one dollop of cheese for the cheesefries. If you're going to charge extra for cheese fries versus normal fries, at least give some more cheese so customers don't feel overcharged. - Literally no seating. People don't leave when they're done eating. Best to take this to go and eat it elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, Shake Shack is good, but not amazing like In n Out. read more

It's just a disappointment to be honest. Me and my friend have tried several shake shack locations ( one in midtown, one near Times square, one in Boston, one in LA... etc) We've always loved it, for me personally, i got so excited to try a new "hot ones". We ordered food for about 40$ for only two. Place was crowded because it's next to museum but the ordering was smooth cause they had kiosks. When we got our burgers, i had a bite of the "hot ones" very delicious. But then that was it. First bite and after that it's just beef patty and bacon and sad cold bun. No sauce tasted at all. Coming from California, I'm well aware of the infamous rivalry between in n out and shake shack. Personally, I think the burgers for each place are delicious in their own special way. However, I believe that shake shack wins in the fry department. Whenever I stop by any shake shack, the line is longggg. My bf and I waited ~15 mins to place our order and another ~20 mins before getting it. We ordered fries and a coffee shake, and both were delicious. There's always a wait here. The burgers are filling and delicious but the fries are too salty, the saltiness over powers the taste, next time I'll make it a point to ask them to hold the salt. There's seating downstairs but its pretty busy, Im glad I found seat downstairs after waiting a few minutes. I've had Shake Shack burgers many times in the past, this was the first time I got a stomach a couple of hours after? Not sure why, but it won't stop me from dropping in for a burger time to time.
