One dish was substituted without any notice despite being pre-paid and pre-ordered. Food service timing was also very poor -- food that was agreed to come out over ~20 minutes took closer to 1 hour, which disrupted the flow of the event and resulted in a large amount of food going to waste. We had also specifically requested clear vegetarian/non-vegetarian labelling beforehand, but on the night food and labels were mixed up, causing confusion for guests. Most disappointing was the lack of accountability afterwards despite multiple attempts to resolve things professionally.

During breakfast hours, the sides we tried to order weren't available. Not the end of the world. I did appreciate that the menu was marked with gluten free options as a coeliac. Ended up splitting an eggs on toast ($13) with gluten free bread and a flat white ($6.) The inside was cosy and they have an open kitchen which is neat. While this might not bother a lot of people, we ended up not ordering more food as the outside seating area is open to the rest of the restaurant. This allows for nice breezes, but it also doesn't allow for a barrier between the inside and the outside. Unfortunately some diners set up at an outside table with their pitbull dog. I am absolutely terrified of pitbulls, especially with all of the horrific maulings in the news. Meat smells, lots of people, tons of movement - anything could set off an aggressive dog and there's nothing anyone could do to stop it. From a purely safety standpoint, if dogs are going to be allowed to be in the outside dining area, I'd feel more comfortable dining here again if aggressive breeds weren't permitted. Maybe that doesn't bother you, which is fine, but it definitely bothers me. Aside from that, everything else was fine. My dish was very tasty and enough for my husband and me to share. But once you venture inside, a whole different experience awaits. iCoco has actually won Metro's best cafe award multiple times, and when I came for a breakfast it was obvious as to just why they receive such rave reviews. The service was great - even though the place was super busy, the waitress had time to stop and greet us on her way past, then have a chat with us as my friend puzzled over what to get. The food itself was great - big portions, cooked well, just the way I like it. The coffee was strong and had a heady crema, and despite the amount of people inside, the noise level wasn't too bad. I'll definitely head back , especially for a lunch - as their menu looks too good to miss out.

Central hub of the café is the kitchen and counters, open plan and in full view of customers. If you want it a little quieter walk through to the second room which has a cosey family corner with multiple couches and lots of toys for toddlers. It is always busy and buzzing with satisfied customers and after going there a few times the waiters remember your coffee order and how you like it. Talk about creating customer loyalty! I love the fact that they use five grain toast on their sandwiches and toasts, it's a healthy option and definitely zaps away the guiltiness for the fries I will be dipping in garlic aoili sauce.

For example, the menu has all the usual brunch items - eggs, mushroom, salmon etc- but they are served with a creative twist and presented beautifully. 'The Russian', which I ordered, was essentially salmon and cream cheese w toast but they served the salmon as a tartare with dill and the cream cheese was full of herbs. Combine this on the lightly seeded toast with a squeeze of lemon juice and some avo and I was in heaven. The décor is a little bit different. They've used dark wood and loads of dark, leafy greenery and with a big Persian rug taking centre stage in the middle of the floor. I loved it but I will admit, it did was rather dark inside despite being gloriously sunny out! I'm normally more of a savoury kid at breakfast but having seen some of the sweet dishes come out of the kitchen i'm already looking for an excuse to head back here ASAP!
