I called and requested that a book be sent over from another Okaloosa library. The staff member said that she would place the request, but never did. I needed the book for a class and ended up having to order it to get in it time. They closed the childrens' section down during the summer to remodel (a poor management decision). I made a special trip to the library with my children and was turned away. They do not offer many summer programs for children at this location. Space is being wasted here. Bring in new talent or reallocated the money going to the FWB location to the Mary Esther, Destin, and Niceville library.

If it isn't in this library the staff finds it at another library and has if for you, if available, in a few days. The wonderful new children's area of the library is just lovely for parents and children. The construction was efficient and well managed and took very little time. I can't wait to take my grandchildren to see the improvements this November! Hope 'Elmo' is available then too!! The Children Section librarian staff goes to great lengths to encourage children to read. The head of this section, Nancy, even dresses up as Elmo for special reading days and the children and parents love it! We love this library!

They have their own housing, some located right on the sound overlooking the beach and water!! There is the private beach where you can relax, swim not worrying about crashing waves and deadly currents, rent a paddle boat, paddle board, sail boat, ski boat, jet ski, pontoon boat, or C-130 Gunship..... JK. There are grills and picnic tables/pergolas available (we grilled lobster for dinner we picked up alive that day at Joe Patty's seafood in Pensacola). Even the "poor people" have huge boats parked in their front yards!! BX is undergoing renovations, commissary is great, infrastructure is nice, base pool rocks, play ground and splash pad are brilliant! You can see a plethora of planes, helicopters, and planes that turn into helicopters come and go all the time doing their occasional "bikini runs" down the beautiful beaches!! I love their book and DVD selection. They also have a small video game section for Playstation 3 and Xbox games but it's really small. If you're studying for any of the local entrance exams they have a descent supply of reference books that you can check out and foreign language section right next to it. Plenty of computers to use if you need to go online, 10 page printing limit/per day, an outside patio area that's enclosed for anyone who wants to read outside, and some couches in the back by the magazine section lined with private study desks with outlets for computers/ipads. The staff is helpful and very friendly. They have free movie nights posted as well and story book time for pre-k, just check their calendar. They aren't opened FRIDAYS but you can use the atrium area to sit and wifi your laptop. Otherwise they're open Mon-Thur/Sat&Sun.

My daughter and I are avid readers, as are my best friend and her children. We don't always get out…read moreto the library, but when we do, we head to the Crestview branch. It isn't as large, bright, and airy as the Niceville branch, but it is well-staffed and well-stocked with selections. And it is local to us. Best of all, if something is at one of the sister branches, they'll have it transferred for us, which is always nice! I recently went in to the library to return some books, and came across the friendliest librarian I'd met at the Crestview branch in the three years I have lived here. I was in a hurry - my best friend was in the car with 10 children, waiting on me - but now I wish I had thought to get her name. Many of the other staff I have encountered here seem to be worn out, tired of dealing with people. That's not the attitude I want to encounter when I'm coming to find materials to promote relaxation and happiness for me, or education and learning in my daughter. We do love the story hour and arts/crafts mornings. My best friend's daycare looks forward to the days we promise to take them. The changes they made in the layout for the Teen section are nice - nothing overwhelming, but definitely more welcoming. All in all .. we appreciate the Library, the services they provide, and the people who continue to work hard to make it a great experience for everyone.
