Being dropped off on the main road, you walk a road (I think it was "paved") for 15-20 minutes in the desert. You'll eventually arrive at a small building which may at one time have been a place to collect admission. The ruins include several foundations, but no walls. There is a tunnel and some deeper foundations that look as though they had basement components to them. The site has a fairly intact ball playing court which was my favourite and an impressive thing to see. This is a great place to get away from it all and away from people. Plan to spend an hour or two here, but with only a few structures, the site won't offer you as much to see as some of the others in the area. I gained so much knowledge and insight Mitla is the second-most important archeological site in the state of Oaxaca in Mexico, and the most important of the Zapotec culture The site represents the most developed architecture of the Zapotec; it is the product of the syncretism of Mixtec and Zapotec designs Surrounded by the mountains of the Sierra Madre del Sur, the archeological site is within the modern municipality of San Pablo Villa de Mitla. While Monte Albán was the most important politically of the Zapotec centers, Mitla became the main religious one in a later period as the area became dominated by the Mixtec.

It was pretty hot with not much shade to cover us, and I had trouble focusing on his speech after a while. The history here, however, is really cool and it was neat to explore the different rooms and tunnels. The steps are incredibly steep, so be careful going up and down. One of the elder folks on our tour fell going down the steps. I wish this had been an earlier stop so I could've focused better on it.

Hierve el Agua is quite the beauty. If you hike, as we did, there are many steps and uneven paths. Wear good shoes. I struggled on the way back up, as I chose to take the shorter, steeper path, but the local guide provided a walking stick, and the Irish couple on our tour was super kind to help lift me at certain points ha. The springs were gorgeous and chilly. What a picturesque location. It's a can't miss for sure.

Been to Mexico about 10 times, various vacation spots. Casa de la Tia Tere is a half mile walk to zocalo--the city center plaza. They serve a full breakfast which is convenient. Coffee, tea, and bottled water available all day. Can't drink the water but ok to brush teeth, etc with it. Room has small kitchen, queen bed, and it was clean; daily housekeeping was great. Pool was clean and saw water tested. Kiosk with fresh fruit and vegetables a couple blocks to right. Zocalo city center to the left. English speaking front desk staff. Very few English speaking people in town. Restaurant menu's in Spanish.
