It's been a long time since I've logged into Yelp, but I felt this merited mention. I placed an order today via Grubhub. My order said the restaurant was delivering and that they'd delivered it (they hadn't) and that I had to call the restaurant for information. When I called them for a status check, they were incredibly rude to me. Like shockingly, beyond-the-pale rude in proportion to how polite I was with them. I'm a customer, just like everyone else, and if they don't want to work with Grubhub, that's not an issue they should take out on me. I'm sorry I had a problem and needed to ask you for help, which I had been directed to do. But that response wasn't right. Food was mediocre (hot and sour soup was very much not hot or to my taste, but maybe someone else would like it). A bar atmosphere with decent Chinese / Japanese food. I would recommend sitting at the bar if you can, it was full when we got there so we took a high top and service was a bit slow. The waitstaff was a bit cold to us too. I don't think they said more than 5 words to us and weren't very attentive. Luckily, the food and drinks were good. I love this restaurant and bar. One of my favorite places to watch football and have a good strong drink. And did I mention they have a jukebox? With Covid I have been ordering takeout. We frequent this establishment regularly and the last time (which will be the LAST time) we were incredibly disappointed by the unprofessionalism. Not only was the table diagonal from us at the high tops blasting music on their cell phones but they were served round after round (no food on their table). When the party at that high top left, two stayed behind and were paying their bill and it was clear that the woman was highly intoxicated. The bartenders did nothing and truthfully did not seem to care but I had to say something as it was evident that she was too drunk to even stand without the support of the chair. The bartender said, " she's fine her boyfriend is here." He has also been drinking and actually drove the vehicle when they left. Shortly after, the same lady knocked over the chair she was leaning on and while attempting to pick it up she fell on the floor. She then stumbled out of the restaurant to the vehicle parked outside. The people who work here are really nice. The food is your standard Chinese American fare. It is fine, but seems overpriced when compared with other similar restaurants in the area. One thing that differentiates it is that it seems to have a nice bar area, though I haven't hung out there. I ordered beef and broccoli with a side of fried shrimp. The fried shrimp were pretty good. The beef and broccoli tasted and the consistency of food that had been steamed. I literally spit out the beef and couldn't finish my meal. The sauce didn't taste right either. Also, it took an hour and I live two minutes away. And when I opened the door, I forgot to bring my phone with me, and asked how much it was. He said $25something. I knew that sound like too much do I gave him $26 in cash; I'm glad I did. Was looking through Foodler the other day & wanted something different so decided to head here as they had Salt & Pepper Shrimp, Ordered a ton of things. Fast Delivery. A little pricey but we did order a ton and like many other higher scale places they dont have sizes, just one order. Salt & Pepper Shrimp was fried in batter, which is a huge bummer for me. I want it in the shell, head on - original style... Not shelled with all batter on it. Maybe in the future I can ask for it to be with shell and then Ill let you know how that comes out. Clean, tasty and clean tasting. From what I hear the drinks and sushi are great as well. Having had no luck with decent Chinese recent I returned her at the recommendation of a friend. This location is under new managements and its shows. I tried the egg foo young and chicken fingers today. The fingers were not greasy at all. The oil obviously was changed recently, The egg foo young scared me at first as it wasn't the old school thick brown gravy. It was tasty, not salty and perfect. The sweet sauce is not the old school version that is found mostly in New England, but it certainly passed muster. The hot mustard was hot, and not watery. I'll be back to try more. Be warned. I love Chinese food and despite some of the more cutting reviews I thought it couldn't be that bad. I was wrong. The meat was disgusting. The teriyaki tasted very odd. The dumplings were doughy and the meat inside was strange, darker than I've ever seen inside a dumpling. The lo mein tasted like dishwater...no joke. It was truly about the worst I've had. We ordered like 50$ worth of food and only wanted one item refunded, and they said they didn't believe us and wanted to have the item picked up from the house and inspected first... seriously?! What kind of service is that. Grub hub also said they refused and were difficult so we had to go through them instead. Try this place for the first time because I was shopping at the area at the time. My boyfriend and I were craving for sushi and this place came up which is the closest one to where we located. Went in on a Monday night, the place is kind of quite. We want to sit at the bar. We both surprised how the price was quite cheap, even for their drink. Each drink maybe about $7.60. We order some sashimi and some small appetizers. They were all taste great and the fish were fresh and look very fancy. Overall, I'm pretty happy with my dinner considering that this place is quite Asian-American restaurant. I came in totally has no expectation but ending up very satisfying with the experience. Ordered delivery and food arrived in less than 30 minutes. I had a relatively big order so I was very impressed. Probably the fastest delivery I ever got. Pu Pu Platter for 1 - Came with 1 egg roll - like any other egg roll 2 chicken wings - nice and juicy, crispy skin 1 skewer of beef teriyaki - I like my beef teriyaki nicely grilled with crispy edges but this was a tad 'under-grilled' a small handful of boneless spareribs - you can't mess up boneless spareribs 1 fantail shrimp - completely covered in batter, I mistook it as a chicken finger until I saw some red inside 2 crab rangoons - filling had green onions. created a taste i didn't care for and 2 chicken fingers - nothing special Overall a sizable appetizer sampler. Could've easily been for two people if you wanna eat this as an appetizer. Seafood Pan Fried Noodles Water chestnuts, lots of red bell peppers, onions, baby corn, broccoli, carrots, snow peas, and big chunks of scallops, shrimp, and imitation crab meat. The vegetables, seafood, and sauce is pretty good but the noodles completely ruined it. Traditional Chinese restaurants usually use thin/fine egg noodles in their pan fried noodles dishes. These, however were just pan fried lo mein noodles. It felt like I was chewing styrofoam. It was pretty unbearable after a few bites. Wonton Soup The soup base was really good. I'm not a huge fan of soup but I enjoyed it. The wontons however disintegrated in my mouth as if they had been sitting in the soup for too long. Beef Lo Mein & Pork Fried Rice Combo They granted my request for no vegetables in the lo mein. Both dishes tasted "lighter" than what I'm used to. I've had more flavorful lo mein and fried rice but it was still good. It was also less greasy. General Gao's Chicken It was definitely crispy but otherwise, nothing special. Tofu and Broccoli in Garlic Sauce I love tofu and this dish was cooked to perfection. There was an indicator that this was a spicy dish but it wasn't very much so. I don't eat spicy so I was happy about that. There's a bit of chili paste, enough to give it a little kick, but I wouldn't consider it spicy. Fried Ice Cream My ultimate, all-time most favorite dessert is fried ice cream. Imagine my surprise when I saw it on their menu (desserts are listed on the foodler app but not on their website/yelp). HOWEVER, I was SO disappointed when I saw my dessert. No frying was done to it whatsoever. What I received was a ball of very frozen vanilla ice cream (that crumbled when I put a spoon to it... as far as I know, ice cream is not supposed to crumble) rolled in some kind of... dust. I honestly don't even know what it is. At first, I thought it was just covered in chocolate powder and that the fried part was under it. But nope, it's literally a ball of ice cream rolled in what I can best describe as sawdust. Then topped with some chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Shanghai Moon, please don't call that ball of disappointment, "fried ice cream." Two of my dishes were supposed to come with white rice but I only received one small container and I didn't receive any spoons even though I ordered soup. Shanghai Moon is *the* place to go on a Friday night in the Medford area. It's always bumpin', and for good reason - the entertainment! It has quite the eclectic identity - part Chinese restaurant, part sushi bar, part sports bar, part casino (ok maybe that's a stretch, but they have Keno and scratch tickets). But on Fridays, the emcee takes it to another level, kicking off the night with a few rounds of musical bingo followed by some highly entertainment karaoke. It's truly a fun time for all! I can't speak as highly for the food. Granted, I haven't tried a ton, but what I have tried has been mediocre at best. I think the appetizers may be better than the entrees. Both the beef and broccoli and the sesame chicken were bland and left something to be desired. While the portion sizes were decent, they weren't as large as I've been accustomed to getting at other Chinese restaurants. That's not necessarily a bad thing, though. I will say, the sushi looks good and fresh; I haven't actually tried it, but I probably would get sushi over anything else if I were to eat here again. The atmosphere is very much sports bar but the food transforms the place. I ate light but both dishes were equal to Chinatown fare: the hot and sour soup (not gummy with corn starch - light spicy and tasty); and Three Delights with scallions (again, a lighter sauce not too heavy on the sugar or starch with very generous portions of FRESH and not over cooked shrimp, scallops and chicken. More than enough for a solo diner. Unfortunately I am not likely to come here again because I was only here by virtue of renting an AirBnB nearby. Would have never come upon this gem otherwise. I bought a groupon for Shanghai Moon, which was good for the Japanese/sushi menu only - fine by me! My boyfriend and I went on a Tuesday night and it was pretty quiet. However, the hostess still brought us to the bar where we were sat at a small high top. Fine. There were tvs all around that we could watch, so that was cool. There were a few people sprinkled around the bar, seemed like locals. The menu had a nice variety of maki rolls. We started with the edamame and ordered four rolls to share. By the end, we ordered one more because they were so tasty! The overall feel of the place was sports bar but it did have a small more formal looking dining section, where there were a couple of families seated that I noticed on the way out. Poor customer service. Waitress was very rude. She reached for the tip to check it before it was even given to her. She decided that the amount of 15% tip was not enough. She walked over and snatched it off the table. We had yet to receive our change back and she came and acted like this. She criticized us and threw the receipt in our face to show us the total amount. Maybe they think changing the name every few years will change things. My wife thought the new name and remodel might make the food better, nope! 1.when we got our menus mine has 2 dried tobiko on there, yum! 2. tempura was edible but sushi and other rolls were mediocre and lacked flavor. The yellowtail jalapeno was so plain and didn't come with any sauce. 3. the girls wanted fried ice cream, I should say "fried" ice cream. when it came it it was like it was coated in some nasty batter and put in the fridge. It was not crunchy at all. When the waiter came out we asked if it was fried. he said it was not...I shit you not. Why the hell would you call it fried ice cream.
