Balboa Island's Fav Chinese Restaurant New Shanghai Pine Garden is Balboa Island's favorite Chinese restaurant where locals been coming since the 80s with friends and family. They got all the Chinese American Classics which we all love and the best part it's family style! Eveyone gets to try a little bit of this and discover new favorites with every bite! What did we enjoy! Crispy Shrimp Rolls Combination Fried Rice Orange Chicken Walnut Shrimp Mongolian Beef Spicy Eggplant & Tofu Steamed Juicy Pork Dumplings Kung Pao 3 Meats Restaurant is spacious and the service is friendly. Come check them out after soaking up the sun or enjoy an evening walk in Balboa Island off of Marine Ave in Newport Beach, CA. 300 Marine Ave, Newport Beach, CA 92662 Haters, you can't mess with what Locals love. There is a reason why this spot is still thriving all of these years. Shanghai Pine Gardens has been around for 20+ years. This is the first time we've been since they've changed/updated their menu. They're still super busy on a night with the Newport Beach Boat Parade, but they take reservations and we were able to squeeze our party into a cozy booth. While the food isn't what I would call "authentic", it was decent and we were hungry. The service on such a crowded and busy night was excellent, which is why they received 4 stars!

Good hot and sour soup! I also found that there is such a thing as "too much service." We were constantly waited on the whole time, party of 5. The man was super, super nice, but i think theres a middle ground that he can find. Parking will be tough, by the way. Try to get lucky with street parking around the houses. It was overall, an ok time! I dont think id go back but thats no shade. Theres just better, more accessible places closer to me.

Had another delicious dinner at Shanghai Pine Garden. Good food at a good price. I only wish my fried rice had the larger shrimp the chow mein had.

Only spot on balboa island for Chinese food and we were not disappointed! Dined in on a quiet weekday and shared a meal with my bf. Everything we picked was delicious and was the perfect amount of food for two people. We started with the fried dumplings and for our main meal, orange chicken and pork fried. We did come about 1.5hr before closing, so wasn't very busy but there was plenty of people picking up orders thought out out 45 mins dining in. We will easily be back to try some more options, and the lo Mien!

My family and I tend to come here during the holidays before walking around to look at the Christmas lights. This past weekend was the busiest because of the boat parade. We were a group of 6 and had to wait a little while for one of the big tables to open up. I must say that even during the busiest times, their service and hospitality is 10/10! It truly makes such a difference in the entire experience. And of course the food is also great, with family style portions to share! I really love their fried rice, Mongolian beef, curry shrimp, and sesame shrimp!

It's actually comical how bad this place is. Ordered a FAMILY MEAL and it said it came with wrapped chicken, wontons, and egg rolls as appetizers. To clarify the appetizers included 1 wonton, 1 egg roll, and 1 wrapped chicken to share. Comes with a 2 cup portion of fried rice. But don't worry, you'll still receive 5 fortune cookies so no need to ration there. FYI: Panda Express is down the street and is available on door dash and Uber Eats AND they deliver. This is sad. Funny...But sad. Xoxo gossip girl - Michael Scott

It's a small location with very little seating inside and with perfect weather on this day we dined outside. We tried the shrimp and pork spring rolls to start. The serving size were four large rolls that were more than we could even finish. It was accompanied by a flavorful peanut sauce. Spooning the sauce onto the first bite was a total surprise and didn't know what to expect. The ingredients were so fresh, crisp, and flavorful. The peanut sauce didn't have that cheap skippy peanut butter taste but was not overpowering and just enhanced every bite. My wife had the Chicken Curry with rice. It was a large serving that she couldn't finish on her own and I joined in to assist with my own spoon. It was filled with pulled chicken that was tender and tasty. The curry was more of a broth that had the perfect amount of curry flavor. Not too spicy and the soft white big potato halves made the dish feel like a warm, hearty bowl of comfort food. The rice was some of the tastiest I've ever had. Not sure what it's seasoned with but it's yellow and stick and delicious and balanced the curry broth perfectly. I ordered the marinated chicken with rice. It's served with a wonderful fish light fish sauce that you often get with vermicelli dishes at Vietnamese restaurants. The chicken was a thigh meat that was tender and flavorful. The rest rice was the perfect accompaniment that filled me up in a good way. Highly recommend both dishes. They use no seed oils, everything is fresh, made to order and be patient as the food doesn't come out right away. Good, healthy, fresh food takes time and worth the wait. They have a bunch of boba and coffee drink options that many around us had ordered and seem to really be enjoying. This place will go on our list of must return and perfect for those summer evening date night spots in one of the best beach cities in all of California.

The service was attentive and friendly. I got the chicken vermicelli. It was delicious. Made fresh with a flavorful side of fish sauce. The shrimp spring rolls were also freshly prepared with crisp lettuce and plump shrimp. These were lettuce heavy rather than vermicelli heavy which made them nice and light. It took us 30 minutes of sitting there to even get a server to take our food order. Understandably, the staff were busy due to the holiday, but we would actively see staff being far more attentive to the tables around us when we never even got water we ordered when we sat down. When we called for staff, it was as if they were actively avoiding us to be more attentive to the "white" tables. It took us calling for them 5 times before they finally had someone actually notice that we hadn't gotten any drinks and hadn't put in an order for food. Even when we finally got a waiter, he scrambled off before we were finished ordering our food. The food was good but no amount of good food is worth the disrespect my family felt. ESPECIALLY on a holiday dinner like this. I wouldn't come back.
