Small, hole in the wall restaurant on 7th st. They have sushi and Japanese appetizers and Chinese cuisine. The menu is a little limited but still a lot to choose from. We had 2 sushi rolls. They were very good!! The steamed pork dumplings were also great! My friend had the general tsos chicken and said it was good. I had the hunan chicken. It was just ok. Fried rice was ok as well. A hole-in-the-wall Chinese place in downtown Chattanooga. We randomly walked in not expecting much, but were very surprised by the quality of the food. Although it was tough to communicate with our waitress, she was still able to make sure the food met some dietary restrictions. We have been here about 3 times and each time the food has been wonderful! The sushi sizes can be off (sometimes too small) but it is really good and the quality seems great. Our favorite thing to come for is the all you can eat menu which includes all of their specialty sushi, as well as, appetizers and other items on the menu. The service is great here as well! Food is horrible. Soggy greasy, and I found a huge piece of plastic in my spring roll. It was sharp like from a plate. NOT SERVICE DOG FRIENDLY. I walked in to pick up my order and was physically pushed out the door because I had my service dog with me. My service dog is medical alert and with it being so hot outside I was very prone to an episode. They made me wait outside u til someone was able to bring it out to me. And had a full medical episode ( passed out) right in front of the restaurant on the street. Please be more understanding towards people with disabilities. read more

We also got the wonton soup, which was fine. The fried rice had no flavor, and the meat was extremely alarming. My beef was still red, and not in a cooked-rare way. My boyfriend's chicken made me nauseous. The chicken was still pink and extremely undercooked. The white sauce (which cost extra) is straight mayonnaise. No flavor, and tasted old. I order delivery from here fairly often. A couple of weeks ago I was out and about and decided to order for pick up. I hadn't actually been in the restaurant in a couple of years and was surprised to see that they had remodeled. The space is smaller than when they first opened, which isn't a bad thing. There were several people eating in and even more people coming in to get takeout orders. They seem to have a good flow of customers. I like the sushi there. It's affordable and tasty. I don't go crazy with sushi. I don't like fish, but I love shellfish, so I stick with the cooked rolls. Yeah, I'm basic. Some of their Chinese dishes are pretty good. Their General Tso's is one of my BFs favorites in town. Their lo mein is pretty good and a few other basic dishes. My son and I were wondering around downtown and he saw they had a sushi sign out. We went in to check it out. The sign outside was wrong in the lunch special end at 3 so we missed out on that. R i p. We still got their Sushi special was cost a little bit more but it tasted really good. Little kids were running all over the place barefoot and watching tablets and being very loud. I deliver for doordash and have had to interact with with the workers of this restaurant dozens of times. They are extremely rude. They don't acknowledge or greet people that come in for pickup orders. Sometimes there are missing items in the order and when asked if they would come over to look at the order and the order screen, they get defensive, extremely rude and refuse to follow up with any any sort of decent customer service. In these times where restaurants are really suffering due to the global pandemic, it's more important than ever that people choose to support small businesses with good ethical practices and ones that value their customers and operate with kindness. read more

Decided to update my review since it has been quite some time. I still love this place. The food is consistently good, with very healthy portions. I enjoy the black pepper chicken, the Happy Family, & love the hot & sour soup. I have rarely had better Chinese food. They are reasonably priced and seldom crowded to the point that the wait is too long (but it has happened a time or 2 at lunch). The only reason I can't give five stars is because the staff seems a little cold, and come off as rude sometimes. Maybe it's a cultural thing or maybe it's a language barrier thing that I'm not getting, but either way. I am sick tonight and couldn't go out to get food, so I decided to try Shangri-La again. I ordered through Uber Eats since they don't have a $20 minimum like ordering through Yelp does, and I ordered a combo with sweet and sour chicken, a vegetable egg roll and fried rice. What I got was sweet and sour chicken, Lo Mein (which I don't like at all) and an egg roll that appears to have beef or pork in it (my husband was going to eat the egg roll and he's allergic to beef and pork). So 2/3 of my order was wrong, and I could only eat the remaining third of it. I double-checked my receipt with Uber Eats and it does show I selected fried rice and requested a vegetable egg roll, so it's not the system's fault. The restaurant was closing in 15 minutes when my food arrived, so I couldn't get a replacement for the items that were wrong. I guess it's my fault for trying to give this place a second chance. read more

The service was attentive and friendly. There was a language barrier though it didn't end up being an issue. The space was clean, and we were the only ones in the restaurant at 6:45 on a Saturday. There was a decent amount of carry out going on. We got all you can eat, which apparently had been reduced by two dollars. The apps were fine though the sauces all had too much sugar. The shrimp tempura were probably the best. The gyoza and shrimp shumai were basic along with the miso soup. The salad greens were fresh. The sushi was mostly ok, with a couple of catches. The salmon nigiri tasted very bland. It didn't taste off, but it mostly didn't taste like anything. The shangri-la roll maybe had a little too much cream and spider roll was fine. The rice in all of this wasn't the best but it wasn't awful either. I didn't notice an overabundance of rice more were the rolls too loose as noted in other reviews. The spicy salmon hand roll was probably the best of all of them, though the seaweed was a little soggy. I might have gone back if these were the only issues, but I also ordered a single piece of yellowtail nigiri as a test. It was bad, really bad. I could tell by the color something wasn't right. It was the color of pus. It smelled extremely fishy and not in a good way. Needless to say I didn't eat it. Until then I maybe would have gone back. After their sushi chef put something so foul on the plate though, I don't trust anything else off his board. I won't be back. read more

My first time at this place and I was pleasantly surprised. First, it was pretty crowded at the lunch hour which is honestly a first for me seeing a Chinese place in Chattanooga so packed. To me that was a great sign. Service was pretty blah. I asked for Orange Chicken and the guy told me no but they have Shangri-La Chicken (I think thats the name?) so I asked to try it and he was hesitant and gave me a look telling me it tastes the same as Orange Chicken. Rude. I tasted it and although it tastes NOTHING like Orange Chicken, it is still REALLY good. I got the lunch portion with Lo Mein and the register lady was taking a very long time.
