This hotel did not impress me at all at all. Now the rooms were clean and didn't sleep too badly but the presentation of the whole hotel did not impress me at all. The reception looks cold and totally uninviting. A lot of the time it was unmanned as well, i have never in my life walked up to a hotel reception to check out only to be greeted by an empty desk! Very strange altogether! Quite inconvenient too! When we arrived in the evening we decided to have some pre dinner drinks in the bar with the possibility of some post dinner drinks too of course! One drink in the bar had us deciding that the after dinner drinks were definitely not happen. While the bar looks great in the picture it looks cold and dingy in real life, the three of us girls walked in and were greeted from stares from some really dodgy looking locals. I have to say that the barman was very friendly indeed but it was the only friendly thing we felt about the place, we knocked back our drinks quickly and it was not due to a drinking game let me tell you! We considered the bar menu but decided to go for the in house Chinese instead. This was so mediocre, the chef was not willing to change things around in dishes (or maybe it was just the waiting staff were unwilling to ask the chef so they said no to our requests!) and the food that we did get just didn't excite us at all. The only good thing was that we were the only people in the place so we were not getting uncomfortable stares from the scary locals! What is it with the locals in there! Anyway, it's a cheap hotel and maybe you pay for what you get but I have paid less and received better in lots of places so I won't be returning here unless I am really stuck!

I stay here a lot for work, and it's very inviting. It gets lively enough downstairs on a daily basis and the staff are super friendly. The food is not bad, but could use some more variety. I was here for a rather extended period and I guess one of the workers caught on I was here for my birthday, and the housekeepers arranged this gift for me in the morning (see attached image). It was very generous and heartwarming. Thank you for a great service everyone!

Bunratty Manor Hotel - Broken thermostat and dirty filter

She brought us two different lamps that did work, but it would've been nice to have the third one. She said, "You like your lamps, do you?" Bathroom garbage had been left from previous guests. Street traffic and party revelers awakened me late into the wee hours of the morning. Not my favorite stay in Ireland.

So, our group had to venture to a nearby pub to order some food. We brought back takeout for a couple of young parents in our group that stayed behind with their baby. THEY WERE THEN BANISHED TO THE SITTING ROOM TO EAT THEIR TAKEOUT. Again, nobody was allowed to bring a morsel of food into their bar that was NOT serving food. There was hardly anyone there!! Just not a warm first impression. We were exhausted and starving, and that was a dumb rule. The woman at the front desk was not particularly pleasant, and she was also the bartender. Our room was sub par, cigarette burns in the tub. No extra toilet paper in the room when we ran out. And the broken thermostat was blinking the whole stay, begging for a filter change...gross. The china was also dirty at breakfast. The only pluses I will give to this place: the sitting and dining rooms were decorated well and the OTHER staff (NOT the receptionist/bartender) were pleasant. Owner also seemed nice.

The farmhouse sits in a rural field, surrounded by Thoroughbreds and miniature horses. I didn't see any obvious signs, so it's unclear if one can visit or get close to the animals. The farmhouse has been built up over the centuries, and the owners Niall and Gillian Ennis manage the entire operation. Niall's skills in the kitchen are superb, I would highly recommend a dinner date or a simple stay-cation here. Ireland's beautiful green is due to the misty, rainy weather, so do take care and watch your step on external stairs or paths that sometimes become slick and mossy. Our 2-bedroom suite was accessible from just outside the main building - it would be perfect for a small family. Don't leave without having a sip of the famous Irish Gin and tonic made with The Pig's Elbow gin and tonic, delicious!

The event space was beautiful. We were blown away by the food at dinner the evening before and at the wedding reception. Our friends are still talking about the risotto, beef Wellington and the fillet. It's rare to experience fine dining at an event, but that's exactly what was provided for us. Our family has traveled extensively. We can happily report that Dromoland is the best overall experience that we have ever had in a hotel. The castle and grounds are gorgeous and meticulously maintained. Most historic hotels have fusty guest rooms. Dromoland had modern, luxurious rooms with state of the art fittings. Everything in the rooms was great, but the beds and showers were world class. Our guests were raving about their accommodations. The common areas were fun to spend time in. The live music was a treat. The food at the castle is by far the best food we had in Ireland. It would hold its own against any fine dining establishment. The bride and groom had an amazing dinner in the Earl of Thomond restaurant. I had the best fish and chips of my life in the Gallery and was pleased to quaff my first pint of Guinness in Ireland at the cocktail bar. Breakfast was an event in itself. The food and service were amazing. We commandeered a large table and spent a couple of hours every morning with a rotating cast of family and friends. The excellent staff took it all in stride. The activities were great- my family was captivated by the falconry. Jane's hotel tour was a lot of fun. One friend played an enjoyable round of golf and our kids tried skeet shooting- all were very happy. Many of us had excursions organized by Dromoland. The drivers were courteous and knowledgeable. The thing that sets Dromoland apart from every other hotel that we have ever stayed at is the level of service. The staff are charming and amazingly helpful. They often anticipated our needs. The attention to detail was awesome. The rooms and common areas were meticulously clean. Turndown service was lovely. The housekeeping staff would even tidy up chargers and cords when they made their rounds. The wedding and our extended stay at Dromoland was a peak experience for our family and friends. We can't recommend the castle highly enough. We should have stayed a few more days just to relax.
