They also happened to post a photo of a model with hair the colour I wanted, so I made an appointment for a tidy-up to take them for a test drive before I committed. Jacob was a doll, and very talented with styling. He wasn't afraid to give me the short fringe I asked for (I am exhausted by hairdressers who refuse to do what I want (apologies for my privileged tantrum)) and was super easy to chat with, which is good, because awkward conversations are one of my most dreaded things about visits. I was stoked with my cut, so booked in for a few weeks later for the crazy colour I wanted. Had Jacob managed to achieve my dream hair, this would probably be a five star rating. He didn't quite hit the nail on the head (to be fair, it was a kind of quirky colour) but I hung out at Sfumato for FIVE HOURS that day while we got as close as we possibly could. That deserves merit (on both our parts, really) and I'm more than happy to give them another chance. Sooner rather than later, to be honest, as these mousy-brown roots are starting to become prominent...

I would never return to this salon or recommend it to anybody…read more I needed to have my gel nails removed urgently for work reasons and couldn't find an appointment anywhere else for the same day, so I tried Metro Nails and Hair. I had to call four times before anybody even picked up the phone. The guy I spoke to said he'd book me in for that afternoon. When I showed up at the salon there was no appointment booked under my name. Apparently the guy I phoned just told me to come in then because he knew that they wouldn't be too busy at that time. That's fine, but it made for a super confusing start especially because there was a massive language barrier. A younger lady was seeing to me and she was being shadowed by another girl who I suppose was a trainee? They started examining my nails and proceeded to cluck over them disparagingly and make a bunch of clearly negative (judging by the tone of their voices) comments in a language I don't speak. When it came to removing the gels, the acetone clearly wasn't working. I don't know why. The lady just assumed that I wasn't completely submerging my nails and started physically trying to jam my fingers further into the bowl, which was very uncomfortable for me. When she'd finally accepted that my nails were in there, she asked where I got the gels done and said they were the problem. That's ridiculous, because I got the gels done in a good salon by the same technician who always does my nails and I have never had a problem with the removal before She seemed to just give up eventually and left a few chunks of the gel on my nails. Then she stopped, with my nails still needing to be buffed and cleaned up, and demanded that I pay before she finished. I was really uncomfortable with this because so far she'd done a terrible job and I didn't really trust her to finish it properly, but I knew that with the language barrier there was no way to debate this with her so I paid up. The cost was pretty low, but still not worth it for the service I was getting. After all that, I left with bits of gel still on my nails and a coating of something which I assume was meant to harden your nails. It was peeling off before I even got out of the store. I have been to cheap nail salons before so I know the drill. I wasn't expecting to be pampered. But I honestly could have done a better job buying acetone and removing the nails myself. I was very uncomfortable during the whole visit because of the staff. I definitely wouldn't give this more than one star.

i signed up to Yelp only to warn others of this place. while cheap, my nails are looking horrible…read morenow. I went for acrylic filling and was services by an older male. he did a really haphazard job in about 30min, I even had to ask him to fix some edges and add another layer to one nail cos it was paper thin. when I pointed it out he kept asking "what do u want to do?". the form of the nails is now uneven, some edges have my own nail peeking out from underneath, the filling does not reach the cuticles after the drill filing (so I will need another filling in 2 weeks), the acrylic 'bleeds' over to the cuticles in places and the polish is on my skin in places. in the end he just wanted to get rid of me and rush to take the next client (note: I was super polite and apologetic about the couple issues, I didn't complain about nearly all the things I could've , like the polish). I wish I had waited until Monday and found elsewhere. I've had acrylics/gel for 15 years now, this was the worst they were.
