Due to…read morehis Alzheimer's progression, he is very susceptible to incoming call that are scams (he gets about 50 calls a day on his line) to get bank information. In short this past March (2025) I forwarded all of his calls to one of my lines (to date over 4000 incoming calls to his line), so that my sister and I could filter out important calls such as Dr. Laakso and give them other direct methods to reach our dad. Dr. Laakso, has called a plethora of times and left a message, in which I myself and or my sister have returned the call (Always getting voice mail) expressing who we are and how to reach our dad a different way. I have gone so far as to Fax her office and get delivery confirmation, and yet today She called and left another message.

It's been years since I was her patient but when, today, i came upon some old paperwork from that…read moretime, I decided to look her up. Shocked to see that Laakso is still in practice. My experience was horrific and one that makes me shudder still. She had me on meds that completely numbed me out and made me barely functional, wanting only to sleep at any opportunity. At our appointments she admonished me, saying that I should be waking at 6AM each day. After attending an out of town family wedding, where I saw the concern on the faces of my family members, and barely got thru each day, I returned home and immediately saw a doctor who was recommended by a friend. This new MD took me off all the meds Laakso had prescribed so that he could get a baseline to prescribe new Rx. It was a new level of awful, as I was now going thru withdrawals, but I got thru it, with this new doctor seeing me through it, always there for me as I was often 1 step away from admitting myself to a hospital in fear of harming myself. I've always felt that my new doc saved my life. Being cared for my Dr. Laakso is probably the biggest regret of my life.

She has a painting of herself in her office, that alone should give you a good idea on what you are…read moregetting yourself into. BE WARNED, this doctor is more concerned with sticking to the textbooks she read in school--and has them memorized in her mind, than treating you for your specific needs. Upon arrival, she already had prejudged me. Asking me personal questions in the waiting room and then asking why I wasn't putting my dad's name with my insurance--I told her it was my personal insurance---she insisted that it wasn't and that it must be my dad's. I found this to be very bizarre as I've had my own insurance for 10 years and never had a doctor question me in such a manner. She knows what the books say to be good and bad, but she lacks the ability to use judgment and think abstractly. In terms of medications, she seems to only be aware of they are approved for; a real doctor knows the pharmacological makeup of classes of medications and knows their similarities and why they work for that they are approved for, and can also determine that if an identical medication lacks the approval for a condition it may not be due to the lack of efficacy but more so to the lack of marketing/trials for that purpose. She has MORALS in place, and will not break them under any circumstances; she would rather have a patient suffer than to reevaluate what she does and "doesn't do". In addition, she also made a racial remark against me. Asking me where I was from, when she truly wanted to know where my ancestors came from, and took a significant amount of time focused on that topic, which had no real significance to the session. She also has issues with controlled medications. It's as though her worst nightmare is that the DEA take away her licence and she is no longer able to buy Mont Blanc ink for her fountain pens or commission anymore self portraits , that she chose to live in fear of the DEA. A significant amount of psychiatric medications are controlled substances, and again a REAL doctor knows that does not translate into the drug being more dangerous than one that isn't controlled, all it means is that there may be dependency and even then its dependent on the person. This doctor would rather give you something that was uncontrolled, which would have significant more side effects, lack of long term data and may be bad for you in the long wrong, instead of giving you something that may be controlled but have limited side effects and decades worth of research, all due to her fear of the DEA. I suggest you find another psychiatrist who does not display their own insecurities in the session and has confidence in what they do.

Would give negative stars if I could…read more Was referred to her by the Psychology today list of psychiatrists within my insurance plan. I have no idea why she is on this list. Upon arrival, I was forced to leave and get cash for the Copay, and promptly chastised by her for not reading the appointment confirmation email stating that she only accepted cash co-pays. Was disappointed to find that she was not friendly, warm, or inviting, and tended to cut me off while explaining my symptoms. While explaining my current regimen of medication she cut me off mid-sentence to say that the regimen I was currently on that worked for me was "very bad and problematic and needed to stop." Did not feel that she had my best interests in mind, and did not feel comfortable opening up to her - she is very judgmental. Ended the appointment by telling me that she did not prescribe the medications I was currently on that have been very helpful for me, would not under any circumstances, and curtly asked me to leave for that reason. This is the last psychiatrist I would recommend to someone.

To their credit, they did help advance my health through identifying something that had prev been undetected, making my future treatment more directed and effective. However, I did not receive what I felt was an appropriate level of care, compassion, concern, responsiveness, and commitment from the team. My key issue with this program is how it failed to support me and provide guidance after I was sexually assaulted by a peer in the program. I am also disappointed with their lack of transparency and honesty with me during this process. Whereas I have had individual therapists who could provide much better emergency weekend support for much less severe events, I was surprised that I could not reach any of the clinicians that I knew or someone who seemed familiar with them or me. I did my best to provide evidence to back up the unfortunate events and believe I was objective and forthright in communicating how peers from the program had drugged and then sexually assaulted me. I had hoped for some interventional therapy to help me process the trauma. My expectation was that they would validate my experience and seek to direct me to helpful resource. The response from the Payne Whitney clinic to my being assaulted by peers was that of largely silence and unavailability, and it ended in my release from the program. Perhaps I shouldn't have met in-person with these group members, yet they had encouraged me to socialize. I may update this later, but I'm likely to remain quite disappointed how the program was so distant, unreachable, unsupportive, and ultimately dismissive after an internal incident.

She continues to be all of those things but even more effective as a therapist than before. She has helped numerous children and teenagers to live happier, healthier lives. Feeling Good Institute, NYC is fortunate to have her at the helm. The only thing "negative" I can say about Taylor is that she no longer lives in California so I can't send her referrals for children in this area who could benefit from her acumen and expertise. Taylor has my highest support and unmitigated endorsement. If you have a young person that is struggling with a psychological issue and they are motivated to work on it, you won't find anyone better than Taylor!
