God gave me and my husband three beautiful daughters and today after going to Ikea, we've decided to find a playground nearby and explore the area a bit (moved here not too long ago) It was not easy to find the parking but finally we did. The weather was beautiful, I put the little one in the stroller and we walked towards this playground. Don't know why, it really doesn't seem like some special place BUT to me it really felt magical. Quite place, parents sitting on benches, kids running around, sun peacefully shining on all of us. It was like a sweet memory from the playground my dad used to take me. We absolutely enjoyed our 30 minutes of swings and slides. The place has a great atmosphere. You should check it out. Maybe you'll feel something sweet too. ;)

Four years later, I still find myself driving here from time to time to do the old running route. Besides that, I run through the park on an almost weekly basis, as it is part of my running clubs 12 mile Sunday run. The park is open and welcoming. A year or two ago volunteers built the Build Jake's Place, a "boundless" playground which welcomes children of all abilities and disabilities. During my most recent visit to the park this past week, I noticed that a second new playground area is being built. (I can't find the info now, but I think I read that it is going to be a softball/baseball field of sorts, again for all children, regardless of ability/disability). The park also includes a quarter mile track, restrooms, bocce court, a basketball court, and baseball field. There is also what appears to be a soccer or football field set back behind a wooded area that I have not ventured to, but I often see games being held there. A short walk to the other end of the park brings to to an area of the Cooper River, and a large grassy field area where one could spread out and relax. For the runner or walker, there are also some trails, which Cherry Hill Township has been making a point of maintaining in the last year or two, and has encouraged people to take advantage of these areas. I only recently ventured back in these trails, and they are really beautiful, well maintained, and not long or complicated enough to get you lost. If you prefer the roads, a lap around the entire park (Caldwell Road, Park Blvd., Kings Hwy., and back into the park on Bortons Mill) is about a 1.25 mile run. The park area is also home to the old Croft Farmstead, but I'll be honest... I don't know what goes on in those buildings, just that it's a historic area in the township. One thing the township/county needs to improve are the restrooms. On the occasion that they are actually open, they are absolutely awful. Smelly, filled with graffiti, no paper towels, and just filthy. The water fountains could use some upgrading, too... they are forced to be turned off in the winter because they don't utilize no-freeze technology, and in the summer the water is just hot, and therefore useless to an overheated endurance runner. If the park could fix either one of those things, they'd easily be a 4 or 5 star park in my eyes.

Greetings, I live…read moredirectly across the street from Barkan Park and my grandson sometimes plays there with his father from time to time, but because of the conditions they usually go to the park located at 50th and Baltimore Avenue. I would love to frequent our neighborhood park more, but as stated by a previous reviewer, the park has become a hangout for folks who may be drinking or smoking marijuana and some that also have serious mental health challenges which are often disruptive. Unfortunately the park has also become a hangout for those who are homeless and sleeping on the benches overnight. Barkan Park is a beautiful park, but it certainly could be better kept so that our families and neighbors could have a place to enjoy and feel comfortable visiting. It's a large wooden structure playground with little forts, slides and all manner of fun stuff for kids of all ages to discover. It's even more fun than it looks in the photos I posted (methinks at least). The structure is really large & adults can can follow their kids most places on it if so desired. There are just a few spots where a young child could really take a tumble to the ground below, but that's the hazards of childhood. I kept a sharp eye on kid #1 until pretty recently. He loves this playground the best out of our small rotation though. There are also swings, a balance beam thing, slides and a sandbox. Picnic tables are around for parents & there's a small pavilion area I've seen co-opted for birthday parties. I don't think they do reservations like at Chestnut Branch park in Mantua. There's a much larger pavilion there, but the playground itself is not nearly as nice. The location is off of Crown Point Road past the library & police station if coming from Delaware St. Take the first right AFTER the light at police. There is a small sign. Follow the winding road back to the Little League field. Ample parking and a bathroom that is usually open are available. Sometimes the baseball snack bar will be open during season. We even caught a game once on a whim. Well, part of an inning! 3 year olds are notoriously fickle.

To this day I don't know what City Paper was smoking since Clark Park has the overall offerings stacked to the gills. But Cedar Park is a relaxing park that offers up plenty of interesting occasions of it's own. You can't go wrong with anything that's a neighbor of Satellite Cafe, Vix Emporium, and Danger! Danger!, especially with it hooks up a dose of nature in between. But it's especially awesome when Food Not Bombs hooks up it's potluck socials over the summer. It's also a great haven for people watching especially when people need to wait for a Dock Street table. And it's having it's yearly fair on Saturday that's going to hook up food, music, and a moonbounce!
