I was a light blonde with shoulder-length hair who did balayage for a few year now. I came to Shear Performance to get a balayage and a cut and asked to tone the blonde down a bit with something like honey or caramel streaks but keep it light. I ended up a dark brunette. Terrible for pale my skin tone. No transitions or gradual color changes inherent to balayage. My hair looks like a single process brunette. Part of the issue was that everyone was busy with other customers and I sat for over an hour with the color on without anyone checking. When we were done, I pointed to the stylist that I hate it and would like to fix the color, maybe use a toner or add a few more touches to brighten it up- she would not even listen. They ensured me that it looks good and I should just wash my hair a few times in the next few days (thanks!). For a cut I asked for an edgy a-line long bob and showed the exact picture. Again, I got a straight line shoulder-length cut. If you want a service where your stylist knows best and has no desire to work with you, this is your spot. So today, I went to get my hair done in balyage from this salon. It was the worst mistake of my life. I got a deal on groupon which was 79 dollars for balyage color, shampoo +conditioner, deep conditioning, and a hair cut. When I called to make my appointment, I told the lady that I wore hair extensions and asked if it would be ok to have it done with my extensions (they are sew-in). She said she didn't know and I would have to speak to someone who does hair, and to come in the same day at 2. So I went in at 2, and there were two ladies there who prepped me and I told them I had extensions. They said it would be no problem and said they were just waiting for the stylist to come. When she arrived (she is the owner), I told her that I had sew in extensions and told her the exact type of hair it is (Malaysian virgin hair) and that they were sewn in. She said it would be completely fine, and that she knows how to do it and reassured me that there would be zero problem whatsoever and it would come out great. She did the balyage on all my hair including the hair extensions and it looks pretty good while the color was still in. Then, she took me to wash my hair and it all went downhill. I told her I had extensions and that she would have to be super gentle and super careful because they could come apart if she tugged too much and that she should not rub them together very hard. Well, she didn't listen. She ripped out about 2 tracks of hair and then she told me and said, 2 tracks are out get them fixed later at your regular salon. Then she finished washing my hair and put conditioner and balled all my hair up to put under the heat lamp. I was upset, but I didn't say anything because I didn't know what to say and just thought that I could see my girl to tighten the tracks the next day. After I came out of the heat lamp, she undid my hair and a huge portion of my hair was a huge ball of tangled extensions and hair. It tangled that way because she did not carefully wash it and because she ripped out 2 tracks of hair and it all got stuck together. She literally washed my hair so roughly that she ripped 2 tracks of extensions out which were sewn in. After that, I began to panic and cry a little and she said, it's not my fault, your hair is like that, let me try to untangle. So she and 2 other ladies began untangling my hair and nothing would work. I was crying at this point and she began to verbally abuse me. She said, you paid so little you got such a big deal. And then, I have no experience with extensions, we don't do them hair, I never dyed them, how am I supposed to know how to do hair extensions. Then she said, you will have to fix them at your regular salon, all I can do is pin them up with a little clip. Then I started getting upset, but I still wasn't yelling at this point or anything and i told her how i've gotten my hair done so many times with extensions and this never happened. Also, the extensions were not the problem, All the extensions to the side and to the middle are perfectly fine and still silky and took the color well. The problem was with the 2 tracks she ripped out and scrubbed together so hard they created a huge ball. After this, she began to yell at me and say I have so many customers and you're nothing. She didn't even finish my hair. She said "It's not my job to fix your hair, it's your hair, not my problem, I don't have to do anything for you." I was so upset. This woman ruined my hair, I had been nothing but cordial till that moment and she refused to even take responsibility for her actions. She keeps saying she did nothing wrong. I began saying that she had to fix it or do something, and she literally threw my sweater at me and told me to get out. I was so upset that I called the local cops and asked them to come down and make her give me a refund. They came and the cop suggested I file a civil suit when he saw my hair. He told me that at the very least, groupon would 100% give me a refund and that i could file a civil suit because my hair was that horrendous. He said he would write up a report and I could access it. After that, I left, crying the entire way home. All in all, I had to go to super cuts and have them cut my extensions out of my hair. The rest of the extensions in my hair are 100% fine and smooth and silky, it was just the 2 entire tracks that this lady ruined and refused to take responsibility for. She is so so so so rude and has no sense of customer service and on top of that completely destroyed my hair. read more

I first came upon this salon by way of Groupon. I bought the coupon for one blowout and deep conditioning treatment back in January 2015. I came with my daughter and got her a blowout too. Since then I'm there almost every week! Olga is the owner and she is very nice. I'm surprised to see someone say she is rude on here. Maybe they were the one who was rude. Anyway, my daughter and I are here all the time and my guy has recently been here for a haircut. Teresa cuts a lot of men's hair. Yes, the salon is no frills but I don't care... as long as my hair looks good when I walk out I'm happy. read more

I did a groupon, and she did a decent job. The groupon was a little pricy for just highlights and a cut. I thought it was a good job but when I got home it was very stripy, it might have been because she used cotton instead of foil. I had to go back the next day and have her try and fix a few parts because she highlighted right down my side part. If the price for the groupon was lower it wouldn't have been as bad. Got my haircut done today from this place. Went back home only to find a quarter sized patch of no hair on the back of my head. I was surprised that the person who cut my hair did not even mention a word about it. It only got worse from there. Called them back hoping they would apologize and the cheats were in complete denial and then came the biggest joke when they said there was no hair there even before my haircut!! To make a mistake is one thing but to lie and cheat is unforgivable. Stay away from these crooks. read more

Unprofessional, inexperienced & outdated. Salon is extremely small, freezing and loud music was playing over a static sounding radio. Owner/director of the salon did not have the heat on for two hours, after she seen me freezing she decided to turn it on. * English as a second language beauticians therefore cannot communicate what you are looking to do. * The director of the salon did what she wanted not what I asked. * The director of the salon asked too many questions as if unsure. * There were hardly any customers on what should be a busy day for any salon (Sunday). Since the salon was so empty the director/owner of the salon decided to do her employees hair with the same mixture she was using on my hair. * This is a salon for small children, the everyday man who wants a quick haircut and senior citizens. * I am a great tipper when I go to salons and actually left without tipping for the first time. * The director/owner argued with me right in front of a child who was getting his haircut on the chair next to me because I asked her politely to observe how she was chopping off my hair while speaking to other people in the room. If you are looking for a professional haircut/color, take care of your hair and know what you want this is not the place for you. They will do the only thing they know how to do and pass it off as something you asked for. I think one star is too much. read more

Terrible! Terrible! Terrible!!!!! The owner is so rude and does not know how to speak to clients. They are also very overpriced for what they are capable of. You would think, with those prices that it is a high-end city salon. Actually, I don't think city salons would charge 65 dollars for a blow dry! The whole salon, is very outdated with crappy products. I had a groupon so I figured I would test it out. It was expired, so I made sure to call beforehand in which they said it would not be a problem. So I went that day, and long a behold, AFTER having the blow dry which took over an hour and it wasn't even that great, they told me that they could not process the groupon. So I had to pay the full price. When I spoke to the owner she was very rude and said she thought it would be okay to use the expired groupon but kept talking to me as if I had no idea what she was talking about. I tried to explain to her that the reason I called beforehand was to avoid such a problem. She told me to contact groupon and left me with the problem. Overall, she was not helpful, rude, and spoke to me as if I was worthless. Thankfully, groupon was very kind and gave me back the value of the groupon. PLEASE do yourself a favor and don't go there. I went here for the first time so get balayage highlights done as well as a cut blow dry and deep conditioning treatment. Olga worked on me, and she was extremely friendly and very patient! She spent her time on me and made sure I was satisfied every step of the way. I definitely recommend going here! It's a very friendly environment and she did an amazing job on my hair! I had bought a groupon for bialage highlights, cut and blow dry for $79 for shear performance in thornwood (I should of known by the price, you get what u pay for) well anyway... I went on Friday morning to go get my hair COLORED and highlighted.... The owner of the place who also did the work on me told me I didn't need color I just needed the highlights cause it will cover the grays.... I told her I didn't mind paying and showed her a pic of what I wanted my hair to look like... Well at the end of the day she didn't do the color and the highlights came out ORANGE!! So I called her all upset and she agreed to redo them with me just paying for the color...i said that was fine and didn't expect the whole thing free... I just called to make the appt for my hair and she told me that the COLOR is usually $100 but she will give it to me for $80 cause my hair is LONG!! Umm are u kidding me?!? U just did a cut on me so it's just past my shoulders!! I also told her I got a quote of $50 she told me that was for ROOTS!!!
