We always appreciate their professionalism and commitment to quality construction, which specifically includes their forward thinking in the realms of technology integration, A/V and networking systems. Their recognition that lighting control and smart home systems are a fundamental element of contemporary construction sets them apart from many other builders. The Kogan team is a great group of individuals to work with, through all phases of a project. We are always excited and proud to be a part of any Kogan home, because our own standard for excellence is valued and optimized within the high-caliber standard that is set by Kogan Builders.

Expectations and promises were set very high during the sales and planning stages, but the actual execution consistently fell short. We encourage prospective clients to review the publicly available federal indictment, prior federal conviction, arrest history, and other court records concerning Kenneth Edward Asher and Asher Custom Homes before making a decision. We believe this information is relevant to anyone considering a substantial financial commitment and should be reviewed as part of the due diligence process before selecting a builder. Significant items that would generally be considered standard, expected, or inherent in a high-end custom home project were either not properly contemplated, underestimated, or omitted entirely from the original budgeting discussions. This resulted in repeated surprises throughout construction. The disparity between the promises and representations made during the sales and planning stages and the realities encountered during construction were significant. There was very little attention to detail or meaningful quality control throughout the project. Work completed by subcontractors frequently required correction, while there was no accountability for the trades and insufficient review of workmanship before it was accepted as complete. At one point, the owner attempted to portray personally checking on the project as going above and beyond expectations. In reality, project supervision is a fundamental responsibility of a builder, not an extraordinary effort deserving special recognition. A credit was eventually issued related to some of these concerns. However, despite substantial supporting documentation, the six-figure credit we received represented only a third of the actual additional costs incurred. On one particular occasion, a significant issue was brought to the builder's attention. The builder acknowledged both the seriousness of the issue and the urgency required to avoid potential future damage to the home. However, despite multiple follow-up attempts over a 30-day period, no action had been taken. We were ultimately forced to contact the subcontractor directly, only to learn that the builder had never contacted them regarding the issue. The builder then attempted to shift blame onto us for contacting the trade directly, alleging it was because payment was being withheld. In reality, payment was withheld due to unresolved workmanship concerns. It is essential that a builder understands not only construction fundamentals, but also the proper installation and handling of premium materials and products. Rather than acknowledging a lack of familiarity or experience with the proper installation of certain products or finishes, work was often completed incorrectly and later had to be redone at additional cost to us. During the final six months of the project, we conducted monthly site visits and provided detailed punch lists after each visit. Despite repeated assurances that the identified items had been addressed and completed, many of the concerns were either inadequately resolved or ignored entirely. After reading the December 2022 Houzz review posted by another homeowner ("AG"), we were struck by the similarities between that review and our own experience. Although the specific facts differed, both reviews describe concerns regarding project oversight, quality control, accountability, communication, and the handling of homeowner concerns after they were raised. Prospective clients may find it helpful to read both reviews and draw their own conclusions. Lastly, when we posted a review to Google Asher Custom Homes originally responded the same way they did in Houzz. When we called out the blatant lies and inaccuracies, Asher Custom Homes after being caught in a lie deleted the response. This is standard operating procedure for Asher Custom Homes. Because we believe prospective clients deserve the full context, we reposted the builder's original response so readers can compare it with our documentation and draw their own conclusions as to why Asher Custom Homes removed its response.

As of December we were down to picking lighting placement with the designer in the CAD program. New windows had been approved by our HOA. Then the designer left as of December 31, 2021. Starting in January, I could not get ahold of this company. I texted Owen. I called Owen and left messages. I called and left messages with the office. I emailed all of them. I even stopped by the downtown location twice to find no one there. But then I went out on their Facebook page (wondering if they had shut down) and found they were boasting of their current 3 spec houses. Uh, what happened to starting my remodel on March 1? You know, the one I blocked vacation rentals for? I wouldn't know. Don't pin your hopes on them. I really thought I had found a great company. I am really disappointed.

We are not novices since over the years we have remodeled several homes (our own and for business), have built a new home, and have remodeled commercial property. As a result, we have plenty of stories to tell with regard to budgets, quality of work, etc. and were a little apprehensive about an out of State remodel project. Well, forget all that. Our Skywalker project manager, Luby, was fantastic. He was responsive to questions, kept us updated on progress by email and with photos, kept us within budget, and on schedule. The quality of the work was top notch. In addition, the documentation provided with invoices was complete and accurate. Their system for managing projects is very professional and the best I have ever seen for a residential job. They put other contractors I have used to shame. (This is a true story.) I have and will recommend Skywalker to anyone needing to remodel a property or for new construction. I would also add that the company has remodeled a number of commercial properties (restaurants) in town and their quality of work in that area is also very good, and they have a good reputation in the community.

I hired Jaaron Mankins and SilverPick Contracting to build my custom home in Falls Creek Ranch in 2018. Once I paid the final invoice, I spent the next nine months chasing him down to get warranty and unsatisfactory work completed. Some of the "lowlights" of our experience follow: 1. I was presented an invoice for a bath tub which was scratched by his crew during construction. When I questioned this, he responded in an e-mail: "Sometimes things get damaged during the (construction) process. If you prefer, I can add my 20% (mark-up) to this line item as well." I was in Phoenix at the time and when I got back to Durango to inspect the work, I found the scratches I had asked to be repaired were still there. Several months later and only after multiple requests/denials, was I refunded. Ultimately, I paid out of my own pocket to have the tub repaired. 2. I was charged for punch list items which Jaaron refused to itemize. When I asked him to itemize, his response in an e-mail was "it's not my job to regurgitate exact items completed." 3. On 1/30/19 Jaaron came to my home to do a walk through and review the punch list items that remained. He was extremely adversarial and refused to allow me to discuss any items or even allow me to walk around my home with him. Later that day, he refused nearly all of our warranty requests--most of which he later validated. I can only speculate as to why he behaved this way. I have an audio recording of this encounter. 4. The interior paintwork was very poor quality. Both bedrooms upstairs had to re-textured and re-painted. Much of the remainder of the house had to be re-painted as well. Over the course of about five months, Jaaron sent out four different painting crews to take a crack at fixing all the paint issues. As a result, there are multiple different finishes on the walls and trim. Again, as with most other warranty requests, he repeatedly denied and refused to complete the work for several months. 5. He repeatedly refused to replace my wooden front door that has four large panes of glass. The glass had been scratched by his subcontractor during the sanding/finishing process. He blamed it on me because he claimed the door had shrunk because I did not get him my stain color choice in a timely manner, which doesn't even make sense. Nearly 11 months later, I finally got a new door. 6. He allowed water damaged trim to be installed throughout my home, then denied that it was water damaged until I showed him photographic evidence of the trim sitting out in the rain covered by cardboard. Jaaron finally did replace some of the damaged trim.
