Esso EG Barracks
ESSO EG Barracks is a service/petrol station, a close distance away from Burnley Barracks Station,…read moreit's a large/modern outlet which also includes a Spar store and a standalone Starbucks location which has a drive-thru, and is also the only Starbucks in Burnley so that's pretty handy too. The store is open 24/7 as you'd expect, they have a Starbucks Coffee machine inside and a small range of food/grocery items, some items were reasonably priced for a petrol station and not ultra-expensive, but obviously, you wouldn't want to buy food items from here unless you had no other option as they still end up costing considerably more than nearby supermarkets. Petrol is, of course, a little expensive here as you'd expect. The overall service station was pretty clean, I liked how they have a clear pathway from the street for pedestrians who want to access the store which is handy, although it is a good walk from Burnley town centre and even Barracks Station, so I would say to come in a car if you're able too. Sadly, there are no Amazon Locker facilities here, although a nearby Texaco garage/service station which is just under a mile away does offer them, I do think they're missing a trick by not offering them here, however, as there is a lack of them in Burnley as a whole. 4*

The shop is open 24 hours a day and is very useful for picking up bits a pieces when you can't be bothered going to the local supermarket. As with many similar shops the convenience is reflected in the price of goods sold and they are not as cheap as similar goods found elsewhere. The shop is well organised and clean. There are fridge cabinets and a frozen food section, as well as shelves well placed within the shop. The shop is always very well stocked and has a good variety of items on sale. The staff are friendly and are happy to help. They serve you promptly and are happy to help you bag up and shopping as necessary. This is a great place for the convenient purchase.

Tesco petrol station is one of the cheapest places to buy petrol in Barrow - currently 92.9p…read more Beware though, that it's not always the cheapest - Morrisons and Asda usually beat Tesco to it with any price drops, a few days or so before Tesco manage it. However, the Tesco store is also doing a promotion at the moment giving you 5p off every litre of petrol when you spend £50 on your shopping in-store, making it cheaper than anywhere else even if it's a couple of pence more to start with - so it's definitely worth filling up there if you shop at Tesco anyway. It doesn't have that many pumps so can get fairly crowded at busy times, but staff are very efficient and get the queue moving quickly. It's always busy and the Tesco roundabout leading into it is notoriously hard to negotiate, so maybe better to go in the quieter evening if you're not the best driver (i.e. me!). This station is open 24-hours - manned in the daytime, and with a pay-by-card unmanned facility at night. Good central location near town too, so very convenient.

Always friendly staff, the kiosk sells some basic items such as bread, sweets, crisps, drinks. They also have necessary items for the car, such as de-icer, oil, screen wash. I asked them what had happened and they seemed to have no idea. So it ran fine before... had its MOT at McGuires, after which it had engine problems... The only thing it could be is that the mechanics have absolutely revved the hell out of the little car in order to get it up to temperature for the MOT, instead of letting in get to the right temp in a normal time... and therefore killed the car off. So no, won't be going again. Of course the damage will cost more than the car's worth to repair. Furious that I've bought new tyres for a now broken car.
