Came here our first night for dinner, Glad to see some vegan friendly options! Seating is self serve and order via QR code at the tables. We started with the maple whiskey sour and polar berries and the hummus plate, the basil hummus was my favorite. For mains we sutured the swear potato taco, shrimp taco and tempura California roll; and I tried their seasonal cider. Everything was great, sushi was huge so definitely meant to share. This is our second visit to Shelter Distilling in the last year. We just stopped in for an appetizer and drink. We typically like sitting at the bar but bar seats were full so we opted for a table rather than wait. There are both high top and low top seating available as well as bar seating against the windows and fermentation silos. There is also seating outdoors if weather permits. The tables use a bar code scanning system to order food and drinks, then a person will deliver the food. I'm okay with this but I can see why some people would be frustrated with this process. For the appetizer we ordered the POBLANO ARTICHOKE DIP - $16 Artichoke, Poblano Chile, Corn, Cheddar, Colby Jack, Parmesan, Garlic, Mayonnaise, Sour Cream, Cream Cheese. Warmed and served with Pita bread or chips. We elected for the tortilla chips. This is a tasty appetizer and the perfect size for two people. For drinks we ordered two different hot cocktails served almost like a hot tea. Mulling it over - $17 Glass Creek Vodka, Mulled Spice Juice, Lemon. This was quite good and had a little bit of sweetness. The second was The Hot Toddy. $17. American Single Malt Whiskey, Lemon, Honey, Ginger. This tasted a little stronger and no sweetness. Do I think the drinks are a little expensive , yes. But sadly that is what you come across in a ski village. Personally I was a little shocked at how many families with young children were at the distillery but I've noticed that in almost every bar or brewery in Mammoth. Its not fair to not give 5 stars because of the hardworking employees and quality of food that they offer in Mammoth but ill be very honest before I start talking about food... This place is very too busy and its better to try to get a table before walking. We were lucky to get a table because a family were finished when we arrived but they were so many people with small kids waiting for long. The other thing, they were overstaffed and their menu was a barcode that we were supposed to scan but the problem was it wasnt detailed menu! For example, we didnt know if the burger comes with potatoes or steak sandwich how it'll be cooked! Or the beer, most of the items were out they only had two flavor and all fruity! So it was hard to fond someone to ask questions. Waiting time was so long and the food didn't come together! Ambiance is chill distilling one but the busy one and we were here in mid week and not in any events/ or christmas or etc...But still it was busy and getting table on time is 50/50. About food, the salmon glaze was so delicious and didnt taste frozen...The veggies were beautifully marinated...It wasnt a big portion and it was about$30. But, the taste was so good... the tripple burger was well cooked and well seasoned as steak sandwich but i wished they were fries...They dont have fries and in my opinion and for our taste, fries with burger is must...Bit overall was good... Beautiful distillery! Very efficient ordering process and helpful staff. You can order directly at the counter or by scanning the QR code at the tables. Plenty of seating! The ahi tostadas were delicious and had a little kick to them. The Pepperoncini martini was okay. We visited Shelter Distilling for dinner and found it very busy. Seating was self-serve and we were able to snag a table just as another party was leaving. The vibe inside was industrial but still cozy, with a large chandelier and nice live music. We ordered right from the table (Toast QR Code), which was convenient. All three of us got Hot Chocolates to warm up, which were actually delicious. I was especially impressed by the house-made whipped cream. For food, we shared an order of Fried Cheese Curds, which were awesome. I wish they had come with ranch too, not just ketchup. I was starving, so I ordered both the Beet Salad and Spicy Tuna Hand-roll. Both were just fine. The beets were the best part of the salad, but it wasn't anything memorable. The Hand-roll was filling, but they went pretty heavy on the spicy mayo. My friends also said their food was good, but nothing mind-blowing. A really fun place to check out, right in the heart of Mammoth Lakes Village. Urban hipster vibe, with a view of the working side of the distillery operation. I've always admired the complex labyrinth of water lines, fermentation tanks, etc, required for brewing and distilling. It's beautiful in a steampunk sort of way! Although I didn't sample any of the spirits (this time!) I did try a flight of their craft beers, which included a hard cider that I found truly delightful. They have a host of innovative food offerings, and a happy hour menu that won't leave you disappointed. I'll be back for a tasting of their whiskeys for sure! read more

The environment is great and the drinks were fresh and well made. However! Everything ordered is on the phone. You have to get your own water. I tried to order for a large party on their app rejected the payment. Went to the bar, they input the food incorrectly so a lot of the food came back wrong. The "medium-rare" steak was well done. The grilled onions were cold, like straight out of the fridge. The food took about 45 minutes to come out. They got the nachos wrong and tried to blame us after their server put it in incorrectly. Place is your typical gastropub brewery set up with tons of tables and spacious seating. I liked the food, just found it to be expensive for literally no reason. Also I HAAAAAATE that you can order whatever on the menu and it will cancel items for you (after you confirmed the order) without notice. My families dinner came out but my partner was missing their dish. I was able to flag someone down and asked about it and their lousy response was "oh the online order came through but we cancelled the French dip because we sold out". Atmosphere: 5/5 - This distillery was a great place to go after a long day of snowboarding. It's conveniently located at one of the lodges near our stay, and had plenty of indoor seating and some outdoor seating. Service: 5/5 - They had a QR code on the table where you can order your food. I really liked this feature because it was user-friendly and efficient. Upon ordering, the food came relatively quick thereafter. Food: 4/5 - I got the seared ahi dish which was good. I wish it came with some sort of nuts or wonton chips to give it a crunch. The seared ahi was seasoned with zesty sesame sauce which tasted great, but it was a bit overpowering after a few bites. I loved that it came with avocados and that the portion was big. It was a filling, delicious, refreshing meal. I recommend checking this place out if you are in Mammoth. Beautiful place where you seat yourself and they give you a QR code and you order through the toast app. No server, just food runners. So if you want a night out and great service this is not your spot. But drinks in a loud environment with solid food, this is your jam. For appetizers we started with the Serrano and artichoke dip. I loved the Serrano which cut through the richness. We also had the hummus trio which was a huge amount of hummus, I especially loved the pesto flavor. They barely give you enough pita so you have half the hummus left on the plate when you run out of things to dip into it. For the mains I had a sad shrimp taco and a chewy carne asada taco. Being from SoCal and eating good Mexican all the time, I would skip these. The Ahi salad was excellent! And so was the Beet Salad with goat cheese. My daughter had a steak sandwich, which i had a bite and thought it was solid and the pizza looked good. Came to Shelter Distilling after a long day of boarding at Mammoth & the food was pretty good. My friends and I ordered the smash burgers, tacos, the buffalo chicken pizza, and nachos. I'm giving this place a 2/5 stars because our server had such poor customer service. We were super nice + patient waiting for our food but he just did not look like he wanted to help us ... but was SUPER friendly with the customers all around us since he was serving them too. It really felt like he was treating us differently because we were all Asian. While he barely acknowledged our table, he was noticeably warm and attentive to the other customers around us, who were not Asian. We asked for a to-go box and had to chase him down since he barely helped our table/came by. Once he brought the to-go boxes he kinda shoved it to me instead of handing it to me normally -- which caught me off guard. I wouldn't come back because I was super disappointed with the service. Let's be honest, this place had potential but right off the bat you can tell the staff at the bar/ front desk didn't want to help. Came in and waited a few minutes to see the server or bartender can't really make a distinction because they don't seat you or give you a menu they acknowledge you after a few minutes then tell you scan the code and order on your phone. Then it had the audacity to ask for a tip on the computer screen when ordering even they do almost nothing other than bring out your food. Water you have to get up and get yourself also, so literally no service. When they brought the food they brought silverware for one person even though there were three of us, long story short service was awful. Food was ok and nothing to write home about, tried a few things on the menu and was left disappointed in the whole experience. read more

I've been here before and had ok service. We sat at the bar for 15 mins today. Only about 6 people at the bar. Not one person back there said hello or please order off the QR code. Just walked past us multiple times. All 3 of them. I get it you get busy etc but this was awful. We couldn't even cancel our QR order because it was sitting in the girls hand for 10 mins taking ordered for other customers. Teach your bartenders to help the people sitting at the counter. Got two tacos, which were actually quite good. The chicken taco was delicious. Service wasn't so great. My order took 45 minutes, while my companions received theirs (also tacos) in about 15 minutes. Shelter Distilling is such a vibe located in the heart of the Mammoth Village. We stopped in for some lunch snacks and a drink. The service here is similar to many places in Mammoth. You have to order using a QR code or at the bar and they bring the food to your table. It's not the best way of ordering in my opinion, but it's how it goes. Shelter makes their own spirits and beer. I tried the lager which was good. I liked that they served their beer straight out of the fermentation tanks. The pretzel sticks were good, and the mustard dipping sauce was the best. Came in here for one drink with my husband. The ordering system wasn't working for me so I went to the front and ordered. The guy asked where I was sitting and I pointed it out. No issue paid and went to my seat. About 30 minutes later no drinks so I went back. The female employee was extremely rude when I asked about her drinks. Complained about a table number (the guy didn't ask for one and we are the only ones sitting on the side bar). She made my drinks in 3 minutes put them down and brushed me off. This place is definitely a hang out. It is loud and happening. The service leaves a lot to be desired but I don't think that's their focus. You're not greeted upon walking in, you seat yourself, no one comes over to say hi or explain anything about the menu. You scan the QR code on your table to order everything yourself and then someone brings it out. If you have any questions about the menu, you have to try to flag someone down while they're bringing out another tables food. If you're dining with young picky eaters, Gomez' next door has the better kids menu. My husband thought the old fashioned was just ok. He also thought the pork belly tacos was just ok (we spent the last 7 years in Hawaii though so could be biased). Spent the weekend in Mammoth with friends for the annual wine tasting festival and stopped here for dinner the night before. As with most restaurants adopting the QR code menu these days, I kinda like not having to waste paper and other materials on menus. Ordering was easy as well as paying for our items. As for the food, it was very good, high quality ingredients, and it came out quickly and our server was very efficient. The only downside was they offer a limited selection of adult beverages and no wine offerings. read more
