I was rear ended by a person with Shelter auto insurance, and my car was declared to be totaled. They were determined to be 100% at fault. The Shelter claims adjusters have passed me around from one to another for five weeks, and have finally presented a "valuation" of my car that is less than what it will cost me to replace it with the same make, model, mileage and condition. The comparables they provided were not even availble, nor were they similar in color, equipment or condition as my vehicle. When I have tried to negotiate in good faith to be made whole I have been insulted, talked down to, stalled, and treated rudely by each of the adjusters I have finally been able to talk to. I got rear ended by one of their clients almost two months ago, the agent handling my claim was RUDE! She wouldn't respond to calls or text until last week when she turned my claim over to another agent because my truck was deemed totaled. The new agent won't answer my calls, text, or emails on when they are going to settle my claim. So, had to tell ANOTHER, homeowner today that their insurance was not going to help them with the sewage that flooded their basement! Why?! Because some jackass sold them SHELTER INSURANCE! Had they bought Nationwide, Farmers, Liberty Mutual, All State, USAA, American Family, just to name a few, they would be covered and not cleaning up RAW SEWAGE on their own! Not doing it properly, risking deadly mold! But because they bought A SHELTER POLICY, their shelter, their biggest investment is in ruin and will stay that way! Folks I don't care what you buy, just don't buy this JUNK! The price point cannot be that significant! There are others to avoid as well. Norfolk Mutual. Same story. IMT. Same story. Whatever you do, AVOID SHELTER INSURANCE as a whole, and this agent in particular. My parents have been loyal customers for nearly 40 years, and have not had a single homeowner's or auto claim in YEARS, if ever. Yet when a water issue arises because of a broken washing machine, their adjuster makes a comically low ball estimate. After walking through the home going over damage (and him pointing out damage I even missed) he failed to include numerous items on his estimate - EVEN THOUGH HE ADDRESSED THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! When you try to contact him OR THE AGENT back via email or phone - RADIO SILENCE - NOTHING! Finally had to set an appointment with agent where she promised to look into it and help - another week goes by of course where I hear nothing so of course, I again have to initiate contact where she says I spoke to someone, and everything you need to do was in your paperwork. Ok fine, but could you not have called or emailed me and told me BEFORE I again had to contact you? Of course not. Look, there are SO many other issues (Like making the ridiculously small check they did send out to my DECEASED FATHER - which the agent had know about for a year when we discussed policies) but I'm sick of typing and wasting time with a clearly incompetent or worse, indifferent and unresponsive agent and a company that has ZERO professionalism or even basic customer service skills unless another policy adding to their commission is on the horizon - JUST AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! read more
