Shepperton Studios is in the same family as Pinewood studios under the PInewood group. Shepperton Studios has been the filming locale of many familiar American and British blockbuster movies. A studio is a studio right? Wrong! It's way different when golf carts, catering trucks and private cars are driving on the OPPOSITE SIDE of the road. Aside from that, I really like the studios here and the services they offer. For instance, I worked on a production here for a few weeks and our time had been extended. I found myself in a predicament where I was working 14 hour + days, not a free weekend in sight, staying in an area where everything shuts down at 6pm and quickly running out of laundry. I should note here, for those that have not traveled to the UK, laundry is very very different here. I've been to the UK twice now and still cant come to terms with the laundry situation out here. In short, most buildings are old and were not designed to sufficiently vent or house a full size washer and dryer and laundromats are few and far between. The British way of laundry is to wash as normal and let the thing endlessly spin dry for just about 2 hours after which it is hung, it's silly to me but understandable, mostly. I thought I had found a fluff and fold laundromat that was close but it turned out to be a small business run out of a nearby home and honestly, I didn't trust it. I had to check Google street view several times, it was really just a house!
I asked reception and there was a laundry service on site! Of course it's for production needs like costumes and such but they also do personal laundry. The system isn't very efficient but the quality was and at a very reasonable price for the convenience. Enough about the laundry though, my reviews have been very laundry centric as of late.
While the studio isn't open to the public it is and was a great place to work. Just like American studios there is a mni mart store (which sells pinewood and shepperton memorabilia), cafeteria and the all present tight security. Remember to look both ways . . . several times! I look forward to working there again and maybe in the not so freezing cold summer. read more
