Absolutely the best spot in Austin for a cut. Sherryl was super sweet, very accommodating and quick with her work to give me exactly what I showed her. I hadn't been to a real stylist for 4 years because I could never get what I was hoping for but she went above and beyond. Made sure I was set on what I wanted before making any cuts and made sure I was comfortable in the chair. I did a pretty drastic cut and took around 5-6 inches off so she was particularly good about talking me through what she was doing. The spa was clean and easy to locate as I live 10 minutes away and she was able to get me in a first day appointment within an hour of when I called. I was suggested this salon by 3 different people in my neighborhood. I didn't want to spent $60 to $70 on a cut, I had been to higher end salons and they screwed up my thin hair. Either layering it wrong or not really giving me a noticeable cut. I'm so happy I gave this place a try! It's $15 for hair cut ($25 cut and shampoo/ $55 if you add blow dry and style). I did the cut and shampoo... I immediately noticed the great layering and cut she did even without styling. My hair feels full and with volume. Doesn't look thinned out, which was my concern. Will NOT go back & will NOT recommend this place. Okay so I'm from CA and I came to TX to visit my family and I wanted to get a sew-in so I came to this place because of all the great reviews it had. Worst decision I made. I went in on a Saturday. I had an appointment at 12:30pm with April but then she called me to go in at 1:00pm because she had over-booked herself. When I talked to her over the phone I told her it was my first time getting a sew-in at a hair salon and I had a lot of questions so she told me that we would have a small consultation when I got there. So I went in at 1 and she helped me right away. I sat down and we began having small talk about how it was going to happen but she basically wasn't really saying much and was not really explaining anything clear at all and when I would ask her a question she would answer really rudely. ..What consultation??? So she began to do my hair and she was not talking to me at all. It was kind of awkward so I was on my phone the whole entire time. As she was doing my hair she would stop and work on other clients. (She did apologize for over booking herself but I ended up getting out of there almost at 6pm!) So she dyed my hair ...and all of my skin too! The hair dye was all over my face! ... I mean I'm just going to cut this short, she messed up my sew in too. I had to call her back until Tuesday and I asked her to fix it for me. She didn't take enough of my own hair out to cover the tracks. So I went in on Tuesday and I showed her how I wasn't able to pull my hair up in a pony and she said to me that I could pull it in a low pony instead.... ?? I said no and I asked her to redo it. I may not know as much as other girls about weaves but I did my research and I know enough! Braids were ALREADY loose and the sides were sticking out it looked like I had horns on my head. So she began to take the whole mess down and since she was taking more of my own hair out she had to dye it so it could match the color of my hair extensions. AGAIN, the dye got ALL OVER ME. Not only on my face but on my back, my leg, my arm, and my purse! ...She had forgotten to put a towel under the cape before she started to dye my hair. Again she apologized but that was it. I had to go in on Wednesday so she could start the sew-in. I had my appointment at 9:30 and she didn't get there till 10am. I was sitting there for 30min just looking around and I noticed bugs crawling around on the floor.. But anyway, She began to do my hair at 10am and right when she was about to be done she ran out of thread! She had to go to the store to buy thread and come back to finish me up... How unprofessional is that? I ended up leaving that place at around 12:30 ish. When I got home I noticed my scalp was red and I thought it was going to go away but the next day my head was killing me (still is) ..she braided my hair too tight this second time. And right now I'm debating wether I should take it out or not.. Either way it's still not done right because when I put my hair up some of my edges still stick out. And just so you guys know.. I obviously paid her to dye my hair and some parts of my hair are still blonde.. Worst hair salon experience I've ever had. This visit was NOT worth $235. I think this hair salon is NOT for people that want to just walk in and try a new stylist. This hair salon seems like it's only for frequent clients. ***Might I state, there was a young man getting his hair cut too and he left VERY unsatisfied. read more

Also they had these amazing hair products I can never forget! They are called agave! Also the hair cuts are $15 which is cheaper than great clips. And this is way better service ! After moving further south in Austin, I started looking for a new, or at least alternative, stylist. Thanks to Yelp, I found Sherryl's shop. She and her sister, Gloria, are a great team. In the couple of hours I sat in Gloria's chair getting a relaxer, Sherryl had to have seen 12 or more clients. She's a skilled and fast barber. Gloria was a great stylist and I was very happy with the results. Yes, the ladies are African-American and so am I. However, in response to other Yelpers, this isn't a "black" salon. Sherryl and Gloria's clients are of every ethnicity and have every type of hair. The shop has the feel of a comfortable neighborhood spot. I am happy I found it. As an African-American woman, I have to be careful with who I let apply what chemicals to my hair. Relaxers are very powerful and if not properly handled can result in the loss of all my hair and/or burning of my scalp. Also, a lot of black women's hair does not grow as fast as other ethnicity's. If my hair is made short (by choice or fault), it can take years, possibly decades to grow it back, not just months. My beautician doesn't need to be black but he/she does need to UNDERSTAND and be familiar with black hair. Thankfully, Gloria and Sherryl are. read more

These ladies are amazing. My wife and i got a cut and loved every moment. The touch is gentle, the conversation pleasant and the cuts darling. Mine involved everything but the top shaved. Not only was i not charged more but i recieved the best shave ever: a 2nd touch up shave to catch any hairs that got away. She even tapered my neck! My daughter and I have oddly difficult bone straight hair. And we have been going to Sherryl for about a year for our trimming needs. I have never walked out of there unhappy. Last week my kiddo decided she wanted layers. We found a beautiful picture of Natalie Portman with some lovely layers, and took it to Sherryl's on Good Friday. Moved to Austin 6 years ago and was looking for a good barber. A friend sent me to a "stylist" who charged $30.00, was an AH and did a terrible job. Another sent me to Sherryl who worked at Fast Freddies at the time. She has been cutting my hair for four years and is terrific! Recently opened her own shop, and is already busy with customers who have followed her. She also has a following of women for hair cuts. Very reasonable prices. NOTE TO DELORES D.: This is not a black salon. I am white and in four years I have never seen a black customer although I am sure she may have some. Very professional, sweet lady with a clean, neat shop. She cut my hair shorter than I wanted but it will grow out. Her cuts may only be $15 but beware she will get you on other things. She said she needed to shampoo my hair (had some spray in it). Charged $20 for it, would have said no had I known that. Then asked if she could style it, another $20. Again, would have said no had I known that. So, all this turned out to be $55. So, go there with your hair washed and you might get a $15 haircut. Don't think I will return. read more

My mom came to visit and wanted to get her hair cut, so I looked on yelp and saw the great reviews and decided to check her out. It was easy because when I called she was free so we went right away. My mom was a little uneasy with having a new person cut her hair so I told her I would go first. I was absolutely AMAZED. She is awesome. I usually go back to my home town to get my hair done, and pay 7-10X as much for a haircut that is sub-par compared to this one. My mom was so impressed that she got hers done too. Honestly, the best haircut I have ever gotten! I got two inches off with layers and it looks fabulous. Sherryl was extremely nice, helpful and funny. I'm usually nervous about getting haircuts but she made sure I got exactly what I wanted and kept me updated on what she was doing to my hair. My husband and I both got our hair cut there this past saturday. Sherryl was AWESOME! I was nervous about using someone new but she was truly amazing. She gave me exactly what I wanted and when I decided to go a little shorter on the back she had no problem re-cutting it for me. Although I felt like a pain! She was very personable, runs a very clean salon, and was extremely talented.I watched her do 2 different haircuts and all looked wonderful. Highly Highly Highly suggest this salon! I have recently moved to Austin from CA and was in need of a trim. I am Hispanic and very particular on my haircuts since I've had some awful experiences in the past. Luckily I found Sherryl's Cuts. These ladies, both Sherryl and her sister April made me feel right at home and Sherryl cut exactly 2" as requested, no more, no less. Although, I probably could have used a few more inches since my hair is incredibly dry. She just suggested for me to return in 8 weeks, which I will definitely do.
