The bad: I asked for half an inch off, and she cut close to 1.5 because she decided she should. She didn't tell me that this was the case until she was done. I'm very frustrated by this since I told her that I was trying to grow my hair long and I only wanted 'as little as possible' cut off. Afterwards she told me some people just couldn't grow their hair long because of breakage. I appreciate the feedback but I really hate that she cut it shorter than I wanted without asking. I recognize that stylists feel like they know best and can do whatever they want to people's hair, but this is *my* hair. I said half an inch. I was very clear about it. I can't recommend because of this and I won't go back because of this, sorry.

The hair dresser intentionally positioned me so I couldn't see the back of my head in the mirrors and called for another stylist. The other stylist took over, while the first tried to distract me. Moments later my hair that was down to my behind when I walked in, was now lopsided and shoulder length. Turned out the first stylist was in her first few months of attending the Westshore Hair Academy, with no experience. Between neglecting to tell me my hair dresser was not even officially a hair dresser, the attempts to hide their mistakes AND allowing me to leave lopsided AFTER the "experienced" hair dresser took over, I truly wonder how this place is still open.

Throughout the process, I kept mentioning to the lady that my hair likes to be straight, that it might need two bottles of solution (it is quite thick). When she unrolled a curler to test the perm, I asked to unwind it all the way to the end, as the ends did not get enough solution. She didn't. After the process, she told me it would get curlier when it dried. It didn't. There is a very slight kink to my hair in places, other places just straight. I have had perms for nearly 60 years. This is the worst one I've ever had. I rely on the professionalism of the hairdresser and the hope that she will listen to my experience in getting perms. Did not happen. The lady was very nice, but fully incompetent in giving a haircut and perm, even with a photo to follow. I have never been so disappointed in a perm in my life.

I got exactly what I asked for and couldn't be happier for it. Island isn't the ultra expensive poofy salons downtown that I'm used to, but it sure beats the usual cheap chains. They were short handed yesterday, but my curls weren't rushed and for that I'm grateful, as I do have the least workable hair in the universe. This is the perfect place for an economic hair styling, and you don't always need an appointment. My only star killer was I'm not a fan of seeing previous clients hair on the floor, but then again I didn't have to pay for an employee whose only task is to clean the stations.
