Food was great. We ordered beef sukiyaki, California roll, teriyaki beef and sashimi. The sukiyaki was an appetizer which normally it's an entree but it was the perfect portion for 1 person. It could have used more stock in it. Wasn't a huge fan of the tofu though. The beef teriyaki was great tasting but the meat was a little tough. The sashimi tasted fresh and came with the usual ginger and wasabi. I did have to ask for my brown rice 3 times. By the time it came out, it was fresh so I think they just made it for me. DO NOT GO HERE!! Today I stopped in for lunch. I ordered Gyoza and it came Cold just barely warm. Also the sauce in a little cup came absolutely freezing Cold. I told the waitress (and maybe owner) and she took it away and brought it back. It was STILL cold. So I ate my bowl of Clams (not Good) and asked for the check. Check came and Gyoza at about $7.50 was still on the check even though the Gyoza was all still on the plate because was not about to eat freezing cold Gyoza! I asked her to take it off the check and she refused!! I asked if the Gyoza was frozen before heating and after dancing around the questions she said yes it was frozen and we don't make it here. I told her again it came Cold and she argued with me and basically said well too bad. So I paid for it and left it and left her no tip. I assume this review will hurt her a lot more than if she just didn't argue with me about the $7.50 Cold Gyoza. I've eaten some of the best sushi on the west coast and some of the worst. I hate to be harsh, but the Sashimi was worst I can remember.

First of all the older lady who was our waiter was so sweet. I'd let her adopt me But really, the place was closing and we offered to get to go or just leave and she sat us and while closing up still gave great service. The food was amazing. I've eaten there once before and it was the same great quality (in my groups opinion. ) Price is amazing for what you are receiving and you're getting plenty of it. I went there with my family on August 12th for dinner. Both my mother-in-law and I ordered two fried rice. The rice  was soOO salty that neither of us could eat it. How could a professional chef make such a rookie mistake? My wife ordered sushi, and my son ordered beef with veggie. Those two dishes are OK. Had our sushi to go and it was absolutely perfect. I'm so glad Shikis is still open in Cody. It's by far one of the best sushi restaurants I have ever eaten at, and I have had sushi all over the US. Godzilla, Snowball, and Yellowstone rolls were made to perfection, and the wait staff and owner were incredibly polite while we waited for our food. I'll most definitely be back next week again, and that will be my 6th visit this year since I've been here mid-May! read more

Traveling thru Cody stopped in to have dinner. My wife raved about the chicken curry. She loved the sweet onions and the coconut sauce was out of this world. The egg rolls were fresh and crispy and the dipping sauce was delicious. I had the chef choice sashimi platter. It was fresh and expertly presented. Obviously shipped by air to the area it was comparable to my favorite sushi spots in Florida. Nice to get our Japanese fix here in Montana. read more

The salmon carpaccio was really good. Really good sushi too, especially the salmon lovers. I eat a lot of sushi and I'm surprised this place doesn't have better reviews. Really surprised to find this level of quality in Wyoming. They are better than some places in the Bay Area. They are a bit slow, though. When you call to order take-out, they say they will call you back when the food is ready. After 20 minutes, thinking that I must have missed the call because I have bad service, I went in and the food still wasn't ready. Also, they don't wear masks. Not a good idea during a pandemic in which 120,000 Americans have died, but not exactly unusual for the businesses in the area. read more

On a recent roadtrip from Nebraska back to Seattle, we stopped into Shiki. Yes, yes I know, eating sushi away from the coast is a definite no-no. Being from Seattle, I know sushi and have eaten all over Japan since I travelled for work years ago. I took the chance and I have to say that it was awesome, some of the two best things I've ever eaten as sushi goes. The salmon carpaccio was one point, incredible flavors and good salmon. New to town, and coming from a place that had sushi restaurants all over the place. This is a good place to visit and get a fix. They have a decent menu. Very nice staff. I had the Samurai Roll and veggie spring rolls. Both tasted very good. I might ask for some spicy mayo on top next time. I will be visiting again to try out some more flavor. read more

We were a little apprehensive when we saw a non Asian making sushi but we decided to give it a try. We ordered an assortment of sushi and hot/prepared dishes. To our surprise the sushi was decent. Not the best we've ever had but decent. Someone in our party ordered fried rice and it looked like they gave him a serving for 5! It was on a humongous platter and piled up high. He couldn't finish it so others tried to help and we still ended up taking it home. We stopped in after the parade but our waitress was attentive and quick. Keep up the good work! read more

Ok so let me start by saying that I had takeout that I drive 5min back to my house.... Ok now to the meat of it! The ingredients were fresh, and tasted good. Now for the reason I gave them 3 stars instead of 4 because let's face it they had no chance of getting 5, so the reason... It all boils down to technique, the rice is not quite cooked right so much that it doesn't stick to itself and makes for a bad roll. Now for the roll itself was also bad technique very loose and falling apart. If they worked on those few things and portion size this place would Be a solid 4 stars! Now if you have ever written one of my reviews then you know that I eat sushi from coast to coast and am well versed on the subject matter. Sushi in the Wild West? Who would have thought it? Okay, you can find better sushi in San Francisco - but I was very impressed by Shiki - given the lack of dining options in Cody. I like Cody - it is a cute town and can be fun for a few days - but the food tends to be very beefy if you get what I mean. Plus it is a small town - so there are maybe twenty restaurants in the whole downtown. Shiki offers a good alternative to the standard steak & fill-in-the-blank fare. We especially liked the Heart Mountain roll - ten pieces served on a dish sprinkled with tempura flakes and a sweet sauce - great flavor and a little different. Also the Shumai shrimp dumplings were a tasty appetizer. read more

Phenomenal. My husband and I try sushi most everywhere we go, and the quality here is exceptional. Service at Shiki was great and the facility was well cleaned and organized fir safe social distancing. The rolls were both familiar and unique, offering sushi, sashimi and tempura. I HIGHLY recommend the bison tar tar...very unique and ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. We also enjoyed the MASSIVE dragon spider special roll and the poke roll. I love Asian food, but I'm growing a little tired of this restaurant being so hit or miss. As a local, I recognize that most of the business in Cody is tourists, so they don't care if you have that one bad meal. Today was the last straw for me. My pan fried noodles were more like boiled noodles, which I can tolerate, but my entree came with both chicken and beef. I asked if I could substitute tofu instead of the meat. 'yes, at an additional charge.' I should have simply pushed the meat aside. Under the small dinner portion of noodles were a few cubes of tofu, ice cold. Therefore the entire dish was barely warm, despite the server having delivered it promptly. Small and overpriced portions, often not the freshest. I gave up on any raw fish there long ago. read more

You can't say it gets any more unique than a Japanese restaurant sitting just a block or two from Buffalo Bill's famous old "Hotel in the Rockies", The Irma, on main street in Cody, WY. It may not be as unusual as you would think, considering one piece of local history: Heart Mountain. Shiki sits about 10 miles south of Heart Mountain itself, and about 12 miles southwest of its infamous namesake: The Heart Mountain relocation center. One of several Japanese internment camps set up in World War II by the U.S. Government. Makes the fact that Shiki is here all that more interesting. Shiki is a simple restaurant, with a series of tables up front that would not be out of place if this were a casual diner. There are a few seats at the "Sushi bar" on the left, and a series of Japanese style booths along the right wall further inside. The rectangular tables invite you to take your shoes off, and sit at the low central table. I believe there are some private rooms further back, but I didn't go far enough in to see them. It took four or five minutes for the waiter to greet us and to take our drink order: water and an unsweetened tea. It took about the same amount of time to get them to our table. I should add there were only two other tables here at 1:00 in the afternoon. This delay gave us plenty of time to peruse the menu. The selection is fair, with a number of "locally inspired" rolls, such as the Heart Mountain, the Cody, etc. We settled on two bowls of "Spicy Fish Soup" to start,(at $6.00 each) , and to split a 10 piece "Volcano Roll", and one other 8 piece roll ($10.00) that I don't recall the name of. We ordered, and once again, the wait was moderate, at 8 to 10 minutes, just to get our soup. So here comes the soup. One word - Phenomenal. One of the best things I have eaten in a long time. Pleasing warm chunks of tuna, nicely firmed by the hot broth, a flaky white fish, shrimp, thinly sliced carrots and scallions, and the most fantastic "just right" spicy broth. There was also a small scallop left clinging to its parental shell nestled along the side of the bowl (as seen in the accompanying photo). I can't recommend this dish enough. Go just for this. Sell something if you have to, to get this soup. Was there a down side? Yep - heavily chipped soup bowl (see pic). Not a proper bowl for broth this good. Just as we were finishing our soup, the sushi rolls arrived. They were warm, as if the rice had just come out of the pot. Unfortunately, this translated to two roll that fell apart when you tried to lift them, with none of the firm texture I am used to when hefting sushi with a set of chopsticks. The Volcano roll was especially difficult to eat, as it had a warm crab mixture on top that made it hard to delineate where one piece ended and the next piece began. It was flavorful enough, with cucumber and cream cheese to accompany the deep fried crab, but only OK. The same lack of firmness applied to the second roll, which had eel, scallions and a spicy mayo tucked inside. OK, but also hard to handle. This whole thing was accompanied by a sufficient amount of wasabi and ginger, as well as a couple of little mixing dishes for the soy sauce. We wished to know what type of white fish and spice was in the soup, so we asked our waiter for that info. After he checked with the "Sushi chef", he told us no one in the kitchen knew what the ingredients were. This was disappointing to say the least. We also found out later that they have a lunch special Monday through Friday, but this was not mentioned. If it was noted on the menu, we certainly missed it. So the good parts - Sushi in Cody and the most wonderful Spicy Fish Soup I've ever had. The bad parts - Slow service, so-so structurally flawed sushi rolls, a lack of ingredient knowledge, minimal décor, high prices, and a "tired" feel to the place. One ice tea, two bowls of soup, two sushi rolls, a moderate tip, and a $50 bill and I parted company there. Pretty expensive for what we got, but it was my daughter's birthday weekend, and hey, she felt like sushi, and we were in Cody. I would come back for the soup, and would give the sushi one more try, but I will definitely come back for that soup. read more

Not good. Spicy tuna roll was like mush and poorly put together. The pork dumpling in my dumpling soup was delicious, but the broth was bland and the vegetables were firm, which is not good in soup. The "J.B. roll" was nearly half cream cheese. I like cream cheese, so it wasn't that bad for me, but it definitely shied away from the fish. The fish did not taste fresh and I'm pretty sure it was frozen. They advertise fresh, so it's a little disappointing that our versions of "fresh" are so different. The spicy salmon was also like eating mush. Go here if you have a sushi craving, but not if you have another option. read more

Normally I would avoid sushi while in Wyoming but after weeks of red meat I felt the need for something different. The decor is pretty basic at Shiki. At least they don't feel the need to make it "ethnic" just because. The server was very nice and prompt to help. I ordered a sushi assortment and was very impressed with the freshness and the quality of the rice was excellent. Just because you are in Wyoming doesn't mean you can't feed your raw fish needs. I cant comment on the food. We went in, were seated and then the waitress promptly ignored us to get on the phone for a take out order. We waited and waited and then decided not to wait anymore. When the waitress saw we were leaving she got off the phone and came over and said she was sorry, but they take turns to take tables and it wasnt her turn.
