Don't come here and expect traditional Japanese. This is as hipster fusion as you can get. Loud rap music, slurping their black garlic ramen on their summer patio- its such a vibe. This spot has been a staple for me! Anytime we get to Calgary, this is the 1st or last stop for us. For years, this spot has stayed consistent with their quality and service. Parking is a breeze for the area. Residential parking is always available. Lines are to be expected, but they move pretty quickly. Bowls come out quick and piping hot, ask for a side of chili. Chili Goma and Tonkatsu Black are my usual go-tos!

Very delicious. Best ramen in Calgary so far. White pepper was very rich with the meat fat. You could distinctly taste meat, dashi, shouyu, and white pepper. Very strong flavours. A bit too salty though, especially towards the end. Noodles had great texture. Meat and egg tasty. Black garlic tonkotsu lacked flavour. Made more salt? Tasted Very plain sadly. The 1 piece of menya in it was super tasty though. Also wish there was an option to make your ramen spicy. We love spicy but there are limited spicy options (only 2 I think) with no add on to make the other dishes spicy. Also they don't have takeout containers for leftovers or takeout/delivery orders. Their menu says you can bring your own containers.

Best ramen in Calgary and probably the best ramen I've ever had. The broth was rich in flavor, and the environment was great.

Love love love Shiki Menya. Was never a ramen girl until we started coming here, but everything is so delicious. I always just get the classic tonkotsu (I order it the old way, not the way it's on the menu now) and my husband always tries something different. We love everything. And the tacos!! Seems like a weird place to be ordering tacos, but they're seriously some of the best tacos I've had in Calgary. The music is loud and rap/hip hoppy, but it sets the vibe. The patio with the garage open is nice in the summer. My one qualm, and reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is that there's no waitlist for a table and even in the winter you have to stand outside and wait in a lineup in the freezing cold.

Their ramen is really really good!!!! It's been 4 years since I have been back to this restaurant. It was good 4 years ago, I moved to Toronto and had some great ramen there and coming back it's still good. They haven't changed their standards which is nice to see (just the prices :) I had the Chili Goma and the gyozas. It's absolutely delicious. I love their broth which is their specialty. The line up is long even on the weekdays. My suggestion is come a few minutes before opening or you will have to wait awhile. Also, they will only seat you if your whole party arrives. The only downside is the music is LOUD! You literally have to yell at your friends in order for them to hear. I'm surprised at this. Being from Ontario there is a bylaw that doesn't allow restaurants to have music so loud because of the pandemic. I guess Alberta is alot more relaxed. They can easily tone down the music and still have a great atmosphere. Overall, the best ramen in Calgary!!!

Made a pit stop in Calgary status post our Banff trip and fell in love with this little city! It reminds me of a Canadian Portland - tons of shops, culture and FOOD. Shiki Menya is one of those stops that you have to try. For warning the line starts early , i would come 45mins to an hour before opening! It's a small shop with a limited menu and everything was pretty darn good. My bf got the black garlic tonkotsu and i stuck with the original with fried garlic spicy oil on the side. Yes, you read that right - fried garlic drenched in spicy chicken chili oil to pour over your delicious ramen. Garlic lovers unite. The ramen was cooked to perfection. We sat at the bar and were amazed at the efficiency of their assembly line. Great quick service and superb ramen!! The broth was on point and one of the better ramen places I've had! It supersedes some places in the states!

Amazing tonkotsu black ramen! We lined up about 10 minutes before opening and were able to be seated in the first wave. The menu is not too extensive, but I didn't even really bother reading it as I know if black garlic is on the menu, I'm going to get it. The food did not disappoint! The broth was extremely flavorful! The noodles were decent, a little more cooked and not as "chewy" as I would have preferred, but good. I liked that the egg was truly soft boiled. It was also nice that it was plated in a giant bowl to avoid accidental spillage. Bring cash as it's cash or debit only!

Karo Miso Garlic Ramen easily the best ramen in Calgary! Always busy so prepare to wait a little but it is beyond worth it.

Came here for a late lunch right before it closed! We had a big group but turn over was pretty fast, we waited about 5 minutes before we got seated. We got the Tonkotsu Black, Chili Goma and Classic Tonkotsu ramen. The bowls are HUGE, but that's for presentation purposes because portions are standard size. The noodles were a great texture, but the broth was super salty (esp the Tonkotsu Black). There was a nice garlic flavor to the Tonkotsu (the egg and pork was perfectly cooked and delicious), but after a while it just became a salt bomb. The Chili Goma wasn't spicy at all, but the pork had a nice smoky flavor and the broth wasn't as salty. Overall a solid, hipster ramen place, but they need to dial back on the sodium.

If it's below 25 degrees I'm cold, so I want ramen. This is a steadfast Evelyn fact. Living in Toronto I'm spoiled silly with many delicious ramen options, so I wasn't as excited as I should have been to try this joint. But now I know, without a doubt, some of the most delicious ramen bowls in the country are in Calgary at Shiki Menya. Whoooa mama. I got their Tonkotsu and my kiddos shared gyoza and one of their kid ramen bowls and we were all satisfied. But holy hell were we out-ordered by my friend who got some spicy sesame-y dream concoction. I forget what it's called, but if you're still reading this review, you're probably about to eat here, so seek it out. Worth noting: +Their sake cups are adorable, get one or two if you're not driving +They have a patio and are handling Covid with great care both inside and out, including doing these cute To Go kits: https://shiki-menya.myshopify.com/collections/delivery-boyz

Okay ramen place. Fun music and nice interiors. The food - They used different ramen noodles that I didn't love tbh. I like soy marinated ramen eggs but they didn't have that and personally thought their char siu could've been better. Their gyoza was nice though

This! This is the restaurant that all other Calgary restaurants ramen should aspire to! Their new digs sit right across from there old restaurant, this one just as hip and just as LOUD! I'm getting older now, and I have to say, every time I have been here, the music could be a couple of notches lower. Other than that, I have no complaints. Takes a tad bit longer for Ramen to arrive, so order an appetizer and share! Save room for those humongous bowls of ramen that's arriving. First time? Make sure you bring a container, because shiki MENYA does not do containers for leftovers. These guys also show the love to local craft beers on tap and in cans. Last time I was there Inner City Bridgelandia was being offered. I found, even after the COVID reopening, single diners can squeeze in quickly! Be patient, it is worth the wait!

So much tasty food! From the apps to the entrees, it was overwhelming how much food we ordered and how delicious it actually all turned out to be. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Great find and highly recommend!

Wakado Ramen was within walking distance from us, so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is located on the first floor of a commercial complex with very little foot traffic, and to be honest, I was a little skeptical at first. Surprisingly, the ramen here was actually pretty good! We ordered the recommended two-person set and chose the Chili Goma Ramen, Tonkotsu Shio Ramen, and a plate of gyoza. I had the Chili Goma Ramen, and I was very satisfied with it. The strong, rich aroma of Sichuan peppercorn immediately reminded me of Sichuan Tan Tan Men, but it was blended with goma-style sesame sauce, which softened and balanced the flavor nicely. I thought that was a clever and enjoyable way to present the ramen. The broth was thick and rich, with a slightly bubbly texture on top and plenty of chopped scallions -- visually, always a good sign for the style of ramen I personally enjoy. The flavor was very good as well. The bamboo shoots were nicely marinated: soft, but still with a bit of crunch, turning into little bites of flavorful vegetables after a few chews. The soft-boiled egg was also well executed; I devoured it in one bite and was rewarded with a rich, flavorful mouthful. My only food-related complaint would probably be the noodle texture. The noodles were on the softer, looser side, closer to the texture of instant noodles that require boiling, rather than the firmer, chewier texture I usually prefer at ramen shops. I know some people may actually enjoy that softer noodle style, so I wouldn't say it was objectively bad, but for me, it was the one imperfection in an otherwise enjoyable bowl. The gyoza looked similar to frozen Ajinomoto-style gyoza, so I honestly didn't feel too excited to try it. Since gyoza isn't too difficult to make fresh, that left a bit of a question mark for me. My main complaint was the service. The restaurant only had two occupied tables at the time, but after we were given the menu, we still waited around 18 minutes without anyone checking back or explaining the meal sets. I eventually walked toward the server and finally caught their attention while the server was chatting with coworkers. The service also felt minimal throughout the meal, with items placed on the table without much communication. I understand most items were obvious, but even a simple "Here is your ****" would have felt much more welcoming than placing items on the table without saying anything. A little more attentiveness would have made the overall experience much better. Overall, the ramen itself was better than I expected, especially the Chili Goma Ramen, which I genuinely enjoyed. But the service experience and the gyoza made the visit feel less polished than it could have been.
