This is without a doubt, one of the quirkiest and best charity shops in Bristol!…read more But it is so much more than just a charity shop. It's and old birds hang out, an internet cafe and an important bit of Gloucester Roads. Sure, it's an absolute shambles and you generally won't find as many 'gems' as you might I other, more modern charity shops. But it more of a jumble sale than a shop, and that's why it's so great! If, like me, you spent years waking passed without going in, please do. Check it out and have a rummage, you'll have a blast!

This isn't a charity shop! This is my Grannies house! You would have to have a cold dead heart not…read moreto be taken in by the charm of this shop. From the internet use for £1, located upstairs somewhere (?), to the book section with all the books laid out on the shelf of what appears to be the lounge of someone's house. There's also a strange selection of pot plants and a toilet seat, to name just a couple of items you are likely to find. I even saw a selection of the books I used to own when I was a child; do you remember How My Body Works!? Well she had the whole set! When you stacked the books up next to each other the spine of each book together formed an image. So thank you One in Eight for my afternoon childhood flashback. They have a community notice board on the front of the shop where you can post your advert for a month for just £1! A month's worth of advertising for £1! I'm sure a similar pricing structure to that of Vogue magazine.

LOCATION// Inside the Old Town Deli & Cafe, straight at the back. Walk inside, past the stairs and…read moreserving counter and you will see a door at the very back. What looks like a utility closet is actually the art shop. SPACE/STAFF//I was looking forward to visiting this shop. I knew it was going to be small, but nothing prepared me for how small. It's like a stationery cupboard. They do manage to pack in a lot of things in the tiny space, but unfortunately it's so small that you can feel the eyes of the staff person boring into your back as you try to have a look around. And in my case, the lady behind the register was not very nice at all. She gave me dubious looks and hurried me as if she thought I was going to steal something. Not very comfortable experience. I didn't really mind the small space as much as the unfriendly customer service. Even if they did have what I want, it put me off coming back. From what I did manage to see, before I was made to feel completely unwelcome, things are more expensive than you can get elsewhere and not that much stock because of the limited space. So if you're looking for something specific, you might not find it here. But if what you want isn't at W.H. Smith, at least you have the option of looking in here..

The shop represents the SAA (Society for All Artists) locally which gives access to their wide range of products. The Art classes and workshops bookable through the shop are excellent and offer a wide range of subjects and media in small friendly groups. Highly recommended in all respects.

This…read moreshop is one of the most comprehensive of its kind and one of the best in Bristol if you discount the likes of Hobbycraft. From the outside you might be forgiven for thinking this is a frivolous, girly shop for bored housewives and old ladies but oh how wrong you would be! There is a large selection of sketchbooks, drawing paper, paintbrushes and Daler-Rowney paints - all essential for art students and established artists alike. The store itself is lined with cards and displays that have been created using products from the shop, such as decopache kits, rubber stamps, ink and stencils. The only thing that limits the possibilities of the products in this shop is your own imagination. Price are reasonable and there is also a framing department at the back of the shop where you can take in your masterpieces to hang with pride.

Reasonably priced with knowledgeable staff on hand to explain what everything is for, Craft Works is creativity made easy. They even host workshops in the evening. They also stock resources for those of us who can't quite decide what hobby would suit us best, or for those of us that would like to be a bit more creative but aren't exactly sure how. A full range of magazines is available with comprehensive advice on hand. And just for the record: I'm in the market for a knitted toilet roll cover with a Cindy-type doll miraculously emerging from the middle. There's a commission in for anybody who can master the skills required to make one. I'd like it in shocking pink. Get enrolling now!
