In the January sales there I managed to get my son a pair of school shoes for £6.50, after he wore through his last pair in just one term! There was no way I was paying top dollar again, and so this shop seemed like the place to go. I have found that with some of the cheaper shoes you need to watch for excessive use of plastic and they may not be as hardy as some people require, although I'm very hard on my footwear and even well known brands tend to get done in quickly on my feet, from that point of view the shoes here compare well. Don't expect too much cistomer service, it's more self-service than anything else, although foot measuring equipment is supplied.

Ah I'm old. I must be old, I wear Clarks shoes. WRONG! Clarks have some cool shoes! OK maybe not…read morecool, but they have really comfortable, sensible, and actually quite stylish shoes. It started with the brogues. Lady brogues have been very fashionable for a few years, and I purchased a beautiful brown pair. They were so comfortable. That was the start of my penchant for Clarks. And then the winter boots! Oh my, these winter boots are the best things I have ever bought to wear on my feet. Not only are they flat with sensible thick soles and a nice snug fit around the calves, but the inside lining is made of Gortex! Which means they are totally waterproof! After a lifetime of getting wet and damp feet throughout the Glasgow rainy season (pretty much 8 months of the year, let's face it) these boots just couldn't have made me happier. I really hope they have similar ones this winter because I have kicked these boots almost to death and they are embarrassingly worn looking. I did buy another pair of smarter black boots for work from somewhere else last winter, and they just aren't the same. They're not as comfy. Clarks shoes, above all else, are comfy. A really good feature too is that some of them have different width fittings - so if you have wide or narrow feet, you're more like to get something to suit your feet. I then bought some lovely black patent loafers with tassly bits. Honestly, they're quite nice, and very practicle for work wear, particularly if, like me, you spend half your life hoofing it around airports. I now have my eye on some other loafers. As a back up pair. The staff are a bit peculiar. Some are quite helpful but some of them.... I can't quite put my finger on it.... it's almost as though they talk to you as if you've never bought shoes before. Maybe they're just so used to dealing with kids getting school shoes that they automatically dumb it down for you. Sometimes they even feel your big toe through the shoes to see if the shoes properly fit you. I quite like that though - it makes me feel like I'm being looked after, although really, I'm probably old enough now to work out whether my shoes fit or not. But it's still a wee bit nice to have a proper adult double checking.

Yes, there is a Kurt Geiger concession in Fraser's across the road - but it's not quite as good as having a dedicated shop, is it? And this isn't just any shop, either. It's gorgeous! The shoes obviously take centre stage (though it's better if you don't bother to look too closely at the prices...) It's great to have a taste of real high-fashion footwear on the high street. Plus, if, like me, you do have a bit of difficulty justifying their prices - make a trip here during sale periods when the prices are far more attractive on even their most expensive shoes.

There…read moreis nothing I hate more than poor quality shoes and I think there is a fine line between quirkily fashionable and just plain tacky. For me Kurt Gieger comes under the quirkily fashionable bracket and the likes of Dune can sometimes be dangerously close to being tacky (yet still expensive!). In the line of work I'm in I know how to spot a good shoe and Kurt Gieger ticks all the boxes for me, especially with their own KG brand. The heels tend to be solid and are often wooden stacked, rather than plastic, making them much more durable. They also tend to be leather on the inside and out and leather is more comfortable and absorbs sweat (ewwwww) better than other materials meaning your shoes shouldn't end up smelly (double ewwwwww). However what I like best about KG shoes is that they normally have a padded insole which makes even the highest of high heels feel so much comfier and more wearable. The Princes Square Kurt Gieger store is usually quite quiet and this can make you feel a little bit under the spotlight as the staff ask you if you are ok at least 10 times. In saying that though, if you do need any help it means you get their undivided attention!

More recently, I wanted to get some new shoes which were stylish (ish) and good for walking. Again, Clarks were my go-to place and I got a pair of "glove puppet" flats which look a bit like trainers but they also have cushioning so you can wear them all day. They were £45 and so far, I totally love them - lets see how they hold up when I walk around Japan next week! This store at Silverburn has a good range and is very neat. I wasn't offered any help but there was quite a lot of customers in, and I was just browsing. I ended up deciding not to get another pair of the sneakers just now!

I discovered I was wrong however, when I recently bought the best pair of shoes I have ever had from here, for a mere £40. A lifetime of shoe happiness for only 2 £20 notes! Ideal. They are high, nude peep toes and go with literally everything. I had looked everywhere for a pair, and the last place I went was here. As soon as I saw them I knew they were perfect. I have had so many comments on them, and I love wearing them. They are comfy and versatile, which for me makes the perfect pair of heels. This Dorothy Perkins always seems to have loads of gorgeous shoes even though it's a smaller store. It has been refurbished in the past couple of years so it looks smart and modern, which only adds to the appeal. I still think some of the clothing is a little more geared towards the 30 plus range, but it is getting better. All my stars go to my shoes though, I have Dorothy Perkins to thank for my fab footwear!

I purchased a raincoat and some winter boots I had originally wanted awhile ago. They were on sale! I've purchased their boots in the past and they are comfortable straight out of the box. They are true to size for me and I've never had any issue with blistering or wearing them in. If you read up on their company they use alot of recycled goods to make their products as well. I recommend their earthkeepers line immensely-such a great line of shoes. Very modern and not your traditional workman boot that you associate with Timberland.

I was in here today (Sunday) looking for slippers. I had actually gone to a well known shoe shop…read morefirst but only to find that it wasn't going to open for another 15 minutes! I then wandered down the main shopping street and noticed this shop. I have bought things in Bon Marche in different towns before and remembered that they usually have footwear in addition to clothes, so I went inside for a browse. I'm glad I did because I found a lovely comfy pair of slippers for £8. Many pairs were reduced in price and it's worth remembering that you can often get a good bargain here also in fashion. I like many of the clothes in Bon Marche (especially their trousers and jumpers) and will go back to look at their autumn range when it comes in before long.
