The place where all you ever wanted was flashing shoes but they were always too expensive! The place where if you had a big enough tantrum, McDonalds was just around the corner to bait you to be good! But now, looking at Clarks, it's not a bad place at all. They stock a wide range of children's, women's and men's shoes at fair prices. They have loads of stock and friendly, helpful staff to help you find exactly what you're looking for. The Cheshire Oaks branch of Clarks is one of the biggest that I have ever seen and it really does have an overwhelming range of style and choice. Even better, it's up to 70% cheaper than the high street branches of Clarks, and it has fantastic seasonal sales. No more tantrums for me!

Sadly over recent years due to competition, Whittakers has started selling a different range of shoes that aren't as upmarket as they used to be. It's still a nice family business that should be supported by locals, but sadly doesn't have the same range that it used to. Infact, I don't think it does any children's shoes anymore.

Discounts vary but there can be up to 50% off some items. Theres a large trainer section which takes up half the store. Theres some really good t-shirt deals such as 2 for £10. A very popular store, probably the busiest at Cheshire Oaks, so the line to pay the cashier can be a little too long at times even with a lot of staff serving.

They don't mind if you don't buy anything, if you just browse, if you just want the kids feet measured even. They have a loyalty scheme for the kids - I think you can get 10% off. Their sales are quite good but the only thing that lets them down is that their prices are absolutely standard! Even their sales prices are the same every year, its set in stone i think! They sell the usual handbags and shoe cleaners but really their service is so good, always full of staff, always happy to help so I would recommend them.

What better, then, to spend the afternoon shopping. We had the time, the energy, and because of the sales, the cash. I've heard that Cheshire Oaks is very much like those subject-to-season shops I often talk about, the TK Maxxes and Home Bargains of this world. Sometimes you can go and come away armed with inexpensive goodies. Other times, no matter how much you root, there's nothing there. I however caught it on a good day. And it was a surprise and a half. What I had expected was a mall, something Arndaley or Lowry-esque, but what you actually get is what looks like a gargantuan entertainment complex with a vast car park in the middle. All the stores are decked out in a kind of mock-Tudor frontage which somehow just about manages to be endearing as opposed to tacky. And the sheer variety of stores is simply mind-boggling. We found ourselves in All Saints, Diesel, Levi's, picking up many little bargains. But there's far more than that, there are sports shops, electronics stores, homeware outlets, the list just goes on. You'd find it hard to visit everything in a single day, and it would take me about five pages to list everything. With eateries on every corner it's easy to while away the hours there. I'd heartily recommend that you download the online store guide before you go and perhaps print out a copy to ensure that you don't get lost or miss anything. With regular buses travelling to the site and nearby train stations Chester and Ellesmere Port, there's no excuse for not taking a little sojourn from the city and travelling here. I promise you, if you catch it on a good day your car boot or poor arms won't be big enough to carry all your goodies. Get involved.
