They do definitely cater for more mature customers from their styles (kitten heals and navy sensible work shoes with a half inch heel) and colours. Their stock is also a pretty good range and they seem to have a good variety of sizes, or are at least willing to investigate the possibility of ordering them in (very unusual in this day and age). However, despite all of the above and how nice the staff are I can't help but feel that this shop doesn't sit right. It is for older customers, but it's still trying to straddle the style and fashion side of things. Most importantly, their shoes don't look that comfortable and - going by the leather - a bit overpriced. Though, I'm more than willing to put my reservations down to having had three years plus of very good shoe training (it was an old school independently run and owned shop - you get the idea...). Hence, to the average customer or window shopper - who is the over side of forty - this place is decent enough and an usual find in the immediate local area. So, worth a quiet afternoon browse.

Now though, Clarks still delivers the comfort but now it's often in the shape of really fashionable footwear. This shop offers that comfort and fashion at really reasonable prices which are heavily discounted compared with the regular Clarks shop. When I was about 7 or 8, I used to bug my mum to take me here for a pair of shiny new patent dolly shoes, which would be the envy of all my pals on the first day back to Primary School. The best part was the feet measuring machine, which I would jump onto and stand, waiting for the electronic measuring tape to move and for the woman to tell me what size I was. Unluckily, for my Dad's wallet, I was always a half size, making finding and buying shoes difficult and expensive. I always came to Crichton's shoes for my footwear, right up until I was about 10 or 11 and decided that bright white Nike trainers were cooler. The shop specialises in the measuring and fitting of shoes, which is fantastic for kiddies who have growth spurts all the time. Upstairs in here is dedicated to Kids shoes, and downstairs to adults. The shoes are expensive though, at around £25-£40 per pair of shoes for children, which can be seen as a bit excessive. However, they do last and are really beautiful and comfortable, so perhaps worth spending more on something that will last a full term.

The fact that the children's and adult departments are seperated is ideal as it allows the children to walk around freely without annoying or getting in anyones way. The shoes are well displayed.

The shop is open plan, with the front of the shop fully open, so you can literally walk right in from the arcade. I liked this and thought it was a pretty good marketing tool, as it practically invites you to walk in. The shoes looked good, loads of different styles including platform, sandals and courts as well as pumps, boots and even the odd pair of stripper shoes! It really stocks a bit of everything and you will probably find something you are looking for in here. I bought a pair of platform sandals, which were pretty much a carbon copy of a pair i had lusted after in River Island, another good point of Garage shoes; they tend to do 'copies' of shoes which would otherwise cost upwards of 60 pounds in Topshop and Dune. My pair of choice only cost me 24.99, and from a distance you would never tell the difference. Come here if you are looking for a cheap pair of great looking shoes for a night out or two. Don't expect them to last as long as the ones in Topshop though, mine kicked the bucket pretty rapidly after a few rowdy nights on the tiles. You get what you pay for after all!

It has to be said that if the dead start to rise this is first on my loot list. I'll need to get my 'oh fuck rucksack' properly stocked. What do you mean you don't know what an 'oh fuck rucksack' is? It's a rucksack you have stowed away in the cupboard under the stairs with various bits of survival stuff, food, etc. that you can grab if the world as we know it is coming to an end. Yes I read and watch far too much disaster stuff and might be a bit of a worrier! Given that the dead are not currently roaming the streets and that society isn't crumbling we concentrated on looking for a warm winter coat for smudge. That said she'd still need to be warm in a nuclear winter, dual purpose shopping! They have a good selection of kids outdoorsy clothing and especially jackets and coats ranging from economical regatta ones right through to seriously spendy Berghaus ones. Thankfully she fell in love with a middle of the range Craghoppers one. It's waterproof, fleecy lined and has a great hood so the poor sausage is getting no lifts to school this winter. While we were there g found a long list of cycling gubbins that has now been added to his 'I need all this now' list and I found a really cozy warm winter coat that might be worth investing in given that a denim jacket is not really the most sensible bit of outerwear for a Scottish winter. Poor puff was the only one of us not really catered for but she'd has so much fun riding in the trolly and pulling things off the displays that I don't think she minded one bit. It has to be said that finding a member of staff in here is virtually impossible. Even when it comes to actually buying something and handing over your money you just can't find any staff. I left g to pay while I got the kids in the car. By the time he had payed I'd got both girls in and buckled, returned the trolley and checked the news app for any signs of a coming apocalypse, not somewhere to come if you are in a rush to leave town and head somewhere more remote and safe.

Camping and caravanning kit and accessories, climbing, canoeing, cycling, running and horse riding also feature. Now they represent every area well but aren't specialists into any area in particular. Shop with care. Watch out for their great bargains and if you are desperate for something reserve online and pickup in store. Staff are quite good. Some better than others but as an outdoor type I just want somebody who can find the size of shoes I'm looking for.

There…read moreis nothing I hate more than poor quality shoes and I think there is a fine line between quirkily fashionable and just plain tacky. For me Kurt Gieger comes under the quirkily fashionable bracket and the likes of Dune can sometimes be dangerously close to being tacky (yet still expensive!). In the line of work I'm in I know how to spot a good shoe and Kurt Gieger ticks all the boxes for me, especially with their own KG brand. The heels tend to be solid and are often wooden stacked, rather than plastic, making them much more durable. They also tend to be leather on the inside and out and leather is more comfortable and absorbs sweat (ewwwww) better than other materials meaning your shoes shouldn't end up smelly (double ewwwwww). However what I like best about KG shoes is that they normally have a padded insole which makes even the highest of high heels feel so much comfier and more wearable. The Princes Square Kurt Gieger store is usually quite quiet and this can make you feel a little bit under the spotlight as the staff ask you if you are ok at least 10 times. In saying that though, if you do need any help it means you get their undivided attention!

The one on the half a head dummy looked beautiful, ok my description of the display may not be selling it to you but it was a really pretty and unusual looking piece of jewellery. This shop is probably more mother of the bride by looking at the outfits on display. They do have a good range of accessories, from fasinators, handbags, scarfs and jewellery. The ladies were very helpful and the lady who initially served me got the necklace from the shop window for me. It was a little more than I would have liked to have spent but it really was pretty and would go perfectly with my outfit. So next time you're in Hamilton ladies have a wee look. It does feel very intimate as it's a small sized shop but it's very brightly lit and you can see in through the window display, so I would window shop first before heading in. By the way there's no way you'll get 'Madonna Voguing' here, a wee disappointed but I'll get over it. I just keep it all in my head instead. Vogue!
