It's been a while since I've been to the Rio, so I was really excited to check out the Canteen food hall. Out of all the restaurants, I decided to go with the Ramen spot. I ordered directly through the kiosk which made the process go smoothly. After 10-15 minutes I received the text letting me know that my food was ready for pickup. There's a self-service area with utensils, napkins, and condiments that you can grab to accompany your meal. I ordered the Shogun Ramen and it was presented elegantly in a large traditional bowl. There was plenty of warm broth, chewy noodles, and abundance of delicious toppings. The pork was rich and fatty which paired wonderfully with the fresh veggies. Everything mingled so well together especially when you take a bite of that perfectly cooked jammy egg. As for the broth, it was definitely on the bland side. It was missing those deep and complex umami flavors, which to me is the most important part of the ramen.

Thick dry chicken breast meat in chicken miso ramen. So bland.

They ran out of Tonkatsu Ramen and everything else on a Saturday night 7pm (they closes at 9 pm) Chicken Ramen was only available so we ordered that. It literally was G.R.O.S.S. :-( The best part was the noodle. I wished the broth and the chicken breast meat tasted better. The soup broth was so bland! I even think they ran out of the chicken broth and just added hot water and a whole LOT of black pepper. It tasted like hot water broth with a lot of black peppper!! The chicken breast was thick dried tasteless huge chunk. It left a really bad taste in my mouth and I'm sorry to say it was the worst bowl of ramen I've ever had in my life.. Sorry. :-( we ordered 3 bowls and my friends all said it wasn't good at all.

Good ramen with a different taste. Plenty of pork and noodles and like how Shogun Ramen includes egg and a little spicy paste. Portion size was perfect and reasonable price point. Staff were friendly with a nice hometown vibe.

Chef Damon Thomas was nice and awesome ! YUMMY Ramen !

First time trying the Rio Resort and Casinos - Food court and YUMMY ! Chef Damon Thomas was great ! They have six different food options - Burgers. Sushi Phillysteaks, Chicken fingers, Burritos and Ramen. I ordered the Shogun ramen and by far hands down the BEST for my taste and I've tried at least 5 other local spots in Las Vegas ! So if you are near the Rio or just wanna come check out their food court ... they have other choices if you don't want Ramen ! However, if you do order Ramen I believe you will enjoy it !

It doesn't live up to the anti-hype at all. Shogun Ramen is a local restaurant that was formerly a chain but now survives only in the Canteen Food Hall of the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. I enjoyed their location on Blue Diamond back when it was the best in town. Their Henderson expansion may have hit a snag because the broth was too salty, at least in my experience. And now that I'm getting promotional dining credit from this casino, I figured I may as well give them another look-see. Ordering can be done at the register or via one of multiple kiosks located around the food hall. I went the latter route, swiped my Rio players card, and took care of payment easily. The food didn't take too long to come out; I picked my bowl up at the window (and also got a cup for water, which can be obtained at the soda machines), but I saw other guests simply sitting at the counter and waiting for the cook to bring their bowls over. I went with my go-to order, the namesake Shogun Ramen ($15.00). The tonkotsu-based broth is not too salty here and at first seemed about as flavorful as I could remember it. However, it did feel a bit muted later on for some reason, so I didn't feel obligated to slurp every last drop. The noodles were firm enough, and the chashu was thick but tender. The egg yolk in the half-egg was soft enough, so it wasn't overcooked. The green onions, sprouts, and nori were fine too. Aside from the ramen simply not being the best in town anymore, there's an issue related to Shogun's presence in a food hall: they don't offer proper ramen spoons here. All you get is a flat plastic soup spoon. Not only is the capacity too low, but the angle isn't right to reach into the deep bowl. Overall, Shogun Ramen is a great option if you're eating at the Rio, and it could very well be the best food available in the building at any price point. I must have missed the growing pains in the first year, but I'd take the Shogun which I just experienced over many other ramen spots around town.

I dined at Shogun Ramen located in the Rio at their Canteen Food Hall. I had a dining credit from Rio so it was free! Can't complain about that! I got the Shogun Ramen which for $14 is actually a pretty good deal for being inside a casino resort. I paid more at several places off the strip in Chinatown. It came standard with a decent amount of toppings. I ordered extra noodles which honestly wasn't necessary since the portions are already large and I was struggling to finish. I only did that because I was $3 shy from my $25/night food credit and wanted to fully use it up. I did wish the noodles were thicker though! You can easily order through the Canteen Food Hall website and you have the ability to apply the dining credits and also mix and match from a variety of vendors!

Delicious ramen made fresh to order inside the Rio Hotel and Casino! The Shogun Ramen was cooked perfectly with amazing flavor and perfectly cooked pork, noodles and egg. Service was impeccable and my order was prepared fresh and fast. The decor is very modern with a Japanese flare of wooden accents and bar top seating as they would in Japan. The prices are very fair for being inside a casino and definitely recommend Shogun Ramen!

Ramen spot inside the Rio for anyone craving ramen while gambling. A decent spot to eat. You have to order via QR code provided at the front counter. The staff here are nice and understanding. The ramen itself is not bad and is pretty good! Easy to find. Recommend 10/10

I really try not having to write bad reviews. Love the variety in this small food court but we didn't expect too much coming here as it was not a busy food court at all and it was prime time on a weekend. I guess nothing is really good here. We decided to go with chicken ramen (i am cutting back from fatty red meats and pork at the moment) and goodness the chicken looked dry, a huge chunky cut that lacked appeal in every way and as everyone said, they couldn't get the flavor right so salt it is to make it up. Unfortunately, it didn't help enhance any flavor but straight up salty bowl of noodles and soup. Chicken was dry and it was far from hitting the spot. We also ordered the Shogun ramen but somehow got the Neo instead and didn't know it was spicy. Luckily the spice paste was dappled on top and was pretty easy to remove if needed. That was also not great but descent. Sad to say, first and probably last time we will come here.

I got the ramen togo but ate it within 5 minutes of getting it. Love the way they packaged it. 3/5: The ramen noodles were ok. Cooked well. Had a good mouth feel. The broth wasn't anything special. The chashu had some flavor but missing the typical strong umami flavor. The spicy condiment is basically sriracha. Overall considering the way they promote themselves I was expecting a new experience. Very lackluster as far as ramen goes.

Stayed at the Rio and ramen was sounding good. It wasn't very busy, so I stopped by Shogun Ramen. The chef/worker was really cool, he made some recommendations. I ordered the Shogun Ramen, since it was their top seller. Added egg... the egg was the best thing about it. The ramen was mid. The chashu was thick, flavorful, but very fatty. The dashi was salty... very salty. I didn't realize how salty until I woke up the next morning and my fingers were hurting and so swollen my wedding ring wouldn't slide onto my finger (and it's normally kind of loose!) Thankfully I took it off the night before. Had I not, my finger would have swelled so bad it would've definitely cut the circulation off! I'd say pass... unless you like high blood pressure and water retention.

Food was excellent. Their katsu is juicier and cooked perfectly, compared to a lot of other places serving katsu.

Fortunately, the wait was only about 10 minutes, which was surprisingly quick. I ordered the soft-shell crab, baked green mussels, and BBQ ribs with steamed rice. My son ordered the yoshu ramen and fried rice. The food came out fairly quickly, but I noticed that the baked mussels never arrived. When I asked our waitress about it, she said the kitchen was backed up. However, after waiting more than 30 minutes and already finishing the rest of our meal, it felt like the order may have simply been forgotten. What disappointed me most was the lack of an apology. The waitress even asked if I still wanted the mussels at that point. I was ready to cancel the order, but Kyo stepped in and tried to make things right. Thanks to his efforts, the mussels arrived about 10 minutes later. Unfortunately, when the mussels finally arrived, I was disappointed again. They were prepared very differently from the baked green mussels I'm used to getting at restaurants in Los Angeles. They were quite spicy, which wasn't mentioned, and the flavor just wasn't what I expected. After waiting more than 40 minutes for them, they definitely weren't worth the wait. Overall, the food was decent, and the restaurant was busy and energetic, but the service mishap and the disappointing mussels left me with mixed feelings about the experience. I do appreciate Kyo's effort to make things right, as he was the one bright spot in an otherwise frustrating situation.
