Delicious! Chicken broth ramen. I added the egg ($1.50)
    Reva R.

Located on East 34th Street, between Lexington Avenue and Third Ave, closer to Lex, I decided to try this lovely restaurant after I took a Quick Look at the Yelp reviews and tons of photos. I depend on the photos a lot, so if you write a review anywhere, please, please, post and caption your photos. Thanks LOL. Glad I ate here--it was VERY NICE AND PLEASANT. And, I happen to pop in during the LUNCH SPECIAL time, so I saved a few bucks on my ramen. I'm enjoying my hot, Little Pot of GREEN TEA FROM JAPAN. Now, that puts me on vacation mode :). It is a beautiful clear, glass teapot, with an ultra-fine, stainless steel strainer inside for the JAPANESE GREEN TEA LEAVES, so you will not have any floating tea leaves in your tea cup at all! None! Since I love tea pots, I am relaxing by simply enjoying the design and simplicity of this teapot. Yes, I am in love with this tea pot. It is form and function at its best. It is the type of simple design I expect to see in museums showcasing CLEVER DESIGN. Yes, life's simple pleasures, for me, can be the clouds in the sky, the flowers I see, and the beauty in design of an item I could use often, and enjoy even if I'm only looking at it. Like art. And, on this day, Friday, Aug 30, 2024, if you order this pot of green tea, it will be $5.95. You do not get to keep the tea pot, but you may enjoy its beauty while at your table. LOL. On to the food--I ordered the RAMEN with chicken broth, and added a soft boiled egg. The ramen has pieces of chicken, bean sprouts , the most wonderful sweet bamboo I have ever tasted, sliced scallions, wood ear mushrooms, Napa cabbage, and I totally enjoyed this bowl of ramen. I also ordered the "roast pork buns" -- 2 to a portion, which was really a delicious, sweet, shredded roast pork on a bao bun with a little Napa cabbage and a slice of cucumber. Yum-o !!! Absolutely delicious. Each bun is held together with a wood toothpick, so remember to remove the toothpick because once you start eating, you may lose your mind to flavortown!! Really good! In brief, yes, enjoy some good food here. The service was very pleasant, too. Enjoy!!

service was great and everyone was so friendly ramen is honestly so mid and i wouldnt recommend or return. the broth tasted like water and the meat wasn't well cooked. the egg that came with my ramen tasted like a normal hard boiled egg. its hard to try new ramen spots because im always let down by the quality, but at least the service was excellent!

Convenient located on 34th Street in midtown Manhattan, this spot has quickly become one of my favorite go-to's for a quick workday lunch. The tonkatsu ramen broth is nice and flavorful but greasy at all like at some other ramen shops. My favorite dish was actually the Chicken Karaage! It was quite possibly the juiciest piece of chicken I've ever had, and would definitely recommend getting it. Service was friendly, speedy and on point, all in a nice and cozy modern ramen bar atmosphere!

Found this place by chance and grateful for it. Been here twice already and can't wait to go back next week. It's got a nice selection of dishes you can choose from. Their spicy pork rice bowl was phenomenal, spicy miso ramen bowl made my taste buds dance. Even nicer selection of sakis and can I recommend the nigori. Service is the best I have felt in a while as there amazing manager viv greeted us with a huge smile, friendly demeanor and positive vibes. She was so sweet she offered us mochi ice cream on the house. Each time I visited I was never rushed and got to enjoy not only the food but the aesthetics of the place. Highly recommend this be your next stop for ramen and I'm sure they won't disappoint. Especially since the ramen is a family recipe by the owner.

    Lots of room inside.

From one who has travel throughout Asia and has had a variety of delightful dishes. I was grateful to have found such an authentic restaurant. Of course, the highlight is the food but a close second was its engaging host Vivian! She is the face of Shokudo 34 and she enticed us to try many different dishes which exceeded our expectations! Shokudo 34 restaurant is now on the short list when we visit The City.

Beef nabe udon and tonkotsu ramen are both on the sweet side but the flavors are authentic. Recommend mixing it with some chili oil which they can provide (not spicy but it'll balance the flavors). Wish the beef was more tender and prices were lower though. Staff are super nice. Yakitoris seem very popular as i the scent decided to come home with me via my sweater.

Ramen is a must during the cold days. This ramen stop had a selection of ramens and the two we chose were absolutely delicious. The pork was crispy, allowing for a smoky taste in the broth. The ambiance was a bit quiet for a Saturday night but perfect for us and the service was attentive. Lots of room for a stroller if need be!

Service was amazing. I can really feel that they love their ramen. The flavor of the broth was on the lighter side but still it was super umami full! I didn't really get that meaty aftertaste and that residual meat flavor in my tongue so that was really surprising. I like the lightness on the ramen. The portion sizes were also very swell for the price. The location is in a lowkey spot of Manhattan but if you're looking for some good ramen around this location this spot is it. The atmosphere is kind of nice but it looks like one big hallway so I guess it can be a walk to your table. It's super bright inside which can be a little distracting when eating your ramen but overall I had a good experience.

    $16.95 - vegetable nabe udon

My friend and I decided to check out Shokudo 34 on a Saturday night around 7:30pm due to the glowing reviews on Google and Yelp. We were seated immediately, and the restaurant was about at half capacity. At first, we were seated near the door and someone didn't close it well on the way out, so the draft was strong, but one of the staff members felt it and closed it. The interior is a no frills, casual dining spot. I got the tempura nabe udon ($17.95) and my friend got the vegetable nabe udon ($16.95). While I agree this is pricey for udon, I was shocked of the reasonableness of the price given the location. My friend thought the vegetable udon was good, but needed more flavor, so we asked for chili flakes. I had the opposite problem with mine. If I'm getting udon, I do not want spice. There were a noticeable amount of chili flakes in my udon, and it was a noticeable kick. I think they should advertise that on the menu, but now you know and if you also do not want a kick, make sure to make that clear to them when you order. Flavor-wise, I liked the flavor of the shrimp tempura. The batter was the right thickness and the shrimp tasted really yummy! The broth was standard for udon, noodles were chewy, and they provided a lot of "throw-away" vegetables. I would prefer a smaller amount of higher quality ingredients, but that's personal preference. Service was decent! They made a few check-backs and refilled water. They also asked before clearing away plates and did not make us feel rushed at all. I'm torn between 3 or 4 stars, but overall, the experience was average. If I do end up coming back, I will change my review to 4 stars, since that means I enjoyed it enough to return!

After a sleepless night, a 6 hour flight, and hotel drama, we were in dire need of comfort food. Coming into the 20° weather from LA, we knew ramen was the move. We came to Shokudo 34 as it was less than 10 minutes from our hotel, and I'm so glad we did!! My friend and I had the spicy miso ramen while my other friend had a noodle bowl. Everything was soooo flavorful! The spicy miso made my nose run (amazing), and my friend's shrimp noodles were to die for. The service was quick and our waters stayed full, I would definitely come back!

We enjoyed the tempura nabe udon with a light, clean broth that complemented the noodles and tempura. Toppings like scallions and mushrooms added texture & enhanced flavors. Fast, polite service, but portions were small and pricey.

The food is so good and clean, we ordered several appetizers and a ramen. Spice level is low so if you don't like spicy, you can still enjoy it. The shrimp buns were a favorite appetizer. Yakitori is good too! Service is great, relaxed atmosphere with a neighborhood vibe. We used a 15% off coupon that was sent in the mail and enjoyed our Saturday lunch this weekend. Highly recommend you give this place a try!

Came here on an early Saturday evening and thought to check out this place because it's new! It's a lovely spot to catch up with friends and eat some delicious Japanese food. At 5pm, it's not too crowded and it's quiet. The prices are pretty reasonable for midtown, and the staff are friendly.

For a restaurant, especially one serving customizable ramen dishes, with a allergy list post on the wall by the counter where I sat at B1, a little flexibility or empathy toward food allergies would go a long way. The interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming, which made the overall dining experience uncomfortable. Customer service matters just as much as the food, and sadly this visit fell short. The smashed cucumber was good. Spicy dumpling was good. Ramen broth was light, not as rich or flavorful as others. There are so many good ramen places in NYC, this Chinese Ramen place has lot of room to improve.
