This is a busy Shoppers especially since it's located in a mall. Its exterior entrance is beside the LCBO and entrance to the Cineplex. It's a smaller, more compact store with a pharmacy and Canada Post at the back of the store. There wasn't even a line at the Canada Post when I was there but the employee that was not assisting me seemed glued to the monitor in front of her, speaking in her native language with her colleague (that was assisting me) all the while ignoring the one woman waiting behind me. There was zero acknowledgement of the other customer. The customer finally had to step up and tell the employee that she was just dropping something off. When we made a purchase the other day the line for the cashier was snaking towards the refrigerated drink section as there was only one cashier at the time. We inquired if there were any Rapid Antigen Tests available and we were informed that there weren't any. This cashier was considerably more polite than the others that I've encountered in the past couple of weeks at other pharmacies and grocery stores. Another employee did let customers in line know that there were self-checkout terminals available and there wasn't a line for the cashier near the entrance of the mall.

Yes, it saves time when the store and company have one cashier, but scientifically and in the grand scheme of things what is one or two minutes in 24 hours? Demanding a cashier and a human being a- forces the company to lower its greed level and b- gives someone employment from a company that can afford to hire thousands and c- helps people not touch the fecal matter on the panels that 1,000 others have touched. Shoppers Drug Mart is located on the concourse of the Yonge & Bloor building next to the subway entrance and The Bay and is large and packed, but similarly cramped and crowded due to its location. For my part I found the girl working as merchandiser and the sole cashier helpful and friendly, which is something at a busy store. The cream I was looking for readily available as the girl pointed out and the price was fine to compared to other retailers. Oh yes, they are busy and have thousands of customers. They should hire another half a dozen cashiers.

We should have switched sooner. Also having prescriptions switched here was EFFORTLESS! Moreover, the big box drug store was charging a fee which, Simon pointed out, my insurance covered and the old place should not have been charging. The owner/pharmacist went to school at UofT and decided to come back to the area to open up this business, which I think is pretty neat. He was very helpful when I went in to fill prescriptions for the first time, and was welcoming to the neighbourhood when he learnt i'd just moved nearby. He even called to my old pharmacy to move my existing prescriptions, and has been great about getting orders done when I call in ahead of picking up. They have a small range of miscellaneous products you'd find at just about any pharmacy - snacks, misc health products, greeting cards, etc etc. Dispensing fees are pretty on par with most pharmacies, and just above places such as Walmart. Shorter hours mean that in a pinch for emergency prescriptions and products I might have to go elsewhere, but i'll stick with them for my regular prescriptions for sure. Overall, a win! Nice to have an owner-operated pharmacy in the neighbourhood.

Canadians know what Rexall is all about…read more As ubiquitous as the Maple Leaf, Tim Horton's, or hockey, Rexall has almost 9,000 locations across Canada. In downtown Toronto (with more than 40), it makes it seem like there's one on every block. For Americans, the closest comparison is Walgreen's ... but think how much more you'd like Walgreen's without the rip-off prices on non-sale items. That's Rexall. So with that in mind, what would make the the location at 48 Yonge Street -- which is more officially known as "Store 8197" -- special? Well, let's start with location: The corner of Yonge and Wellington. On my journey, I was at the famed Hotel Victoria ... putting us less than a block from the Rexall. That also puts you in a few blocks from the East Bayfront, ScotiaBank Arena, Berczy Park, Union Station, Sony Centre for the Performing Arts (soon to be Meridian Hall), across the street from the Hockey Hall of Fame, and very very close to about a zillion other things you'll want to do and see in Toronto. Are all Rexall's the same? Pretty-much. Each (or at least most) have an excellent pharmacy for all those good drugs you get with that freeish healthcare Canada gives its lucky citizens. Pleasant service. A whole bunch of candy selections. It's the best place for fellow travelers to pick up those health, hair, and beauty items they forgot at home ... and at actually very reasonable prices. I was gobsmacked to pay $5 ($3.75 US) for a 6-pack of 710mL (24-oz) bottles of Diet Coke ... a great deal, especially in a major metropolitan area. Every day on our trip, we either started or ended our day at the Rexall. And we return to Toronto, we'll be back for more!
