I had a SUP yoga session through Bliss on a Sunday morning (6/1). I arrived at the cute little studio and Jack was able to provide me directions on how to get to the cove we would be practicing at. Arlene was the instructor for the day and she was very friendly and helpful. I let her know that I have a SUP that I use at home and do yoga at home as well. Although I have some experience my balance is HORRIBLE. She matched me with a great board to provide better stability. She was kind enough to take pictures with the studio's camera (so I didn't give her my own). We paddled out and tied ourselves to a buoy as to not float away. It was nice that the class only had three students because I felt she could dedicate more time to doing the poses correctly. She encouraged us through the movements and let us know that modification is encouraged because we are not used to practicing on a "moving floor". Although the class had some challenging aspects, it was mostly relaxing. I was on a "high" for the rest of the day with how wonderful I felt. Arlene informed us that the pictures would be posted shortly. The only down side is that my idea of "shortly" and theirs may be very different. After multiple emails the photos had not been published on their facebook until June 14th. If you want to get pictures quickly I would recommend supplying the teacher with your camera. I would sign up for another class in a heartbeat!

I did buy several Groupon's and tried other studios before ending up at Triad. I even have free lunchtime yoga at my work but still I pay to go to Triad because Alex's Thursday night class is wonderful. Alex really focuses on making the practice your own. She spends the first hour guiding you through a range of difficulty levels and you can choose to work really hard or take it easy if you are not feeling well or a beginner. The last 30 minutes is typically more restorative and often includes a very short reading at the end that is beautiful and meaningful. She is also very caring for her students and helpful with adjustments that are right for your body. I love that every practice is so unique there with lots of interesting moves I haven't done any other studios. The studio itself is wonderful. It's small which is nice because it's quiet and intimate plus they have plenty of props and equipment. The studio is always very clean and they have an air purifier and fresh plants in the room which helps I think with making sure that people don't spread germs during flu season. She pointed out where it's warmest and where it's cooler so we could choose our spot intentionally. On the way to the yoga room, a kind, young man greeted me, asked my name, and introduced himself as Sage -- and yes, he was the instructor. This is an advanced, high-intensity class: Extreme heat; a jam-packed room (literally elbow to elbow); room surrounded by mirrors; dynamic, fast movement paired with long, challenging holds. It builds serious physical and mental strength. Utilizing your breath is a must to finish this class! What made the class exceptional, though, is how Sage guided us through that intensity. The flow begins slow and intentional, then steadily builds. The mirrors fog, the breath becomes your anchor, and Sage's words remind you that you're not who you used to be -- this is who you are now -- and that you get to choose the direction your life moves. A few times he said, "I...Love...My...Life," so deliberately that it landed in our bodies. And by the end, we were fully cooked! A bit of a line to use the bathroom & shower afterward, so I chose to leave quickly & catch some fresh air outside. I loved the experience; however, a daily practice at that level may not be sustainable. Great to sprinkle in during the week as a challenge! (Also, easy access and free parking lot right outside.)
